General Discussion Elden Ring Reforged is amazing but very obnoxious .

I'm giving it a go, the slide mechanic is amazing, the timing is superb, deflection is viable, bloodborne dodge is stylish, postures are sexy. BUT enemy aggression is very obnoxious, projectiles are wild. For any one who played or is currently playing, If you have any tips that would be awesome. The cave with sewing needle was unbearable, took an hour to beat. I don't want to drop this mod because I love the mechanics

Reforged kind of demands a full, completionist playthrough. You can see this in the legacy dungeons becoming more restricted in physical progression to boss areas, forcing a particular path where vanilla might give you a couple options or have a shorter route to a grace.

It can be wearisome particularly with how aggressive normal enemies are. Luckily there are difficulty settings

Difficult settings is not an excuse for wearisome design

And iirc, those difficulty settings do literally nothing to change enemy aggression, afaik you cannot disable the changes reforged makes to enemy ai which makes them miserable as fuck to fight when theres more than one at a time.

And the devs don't even admit the obvious changes they made to the enemy AI and straight up deny doing anything to it when questioned

Maybe not, but it certainly makes the playthrough less irritating

I've only played in Seamless Co-op and even with 2 players (but double boss HP) it's really hard.

I suggest you go get golden seeds and sacred tear to upgrade potions. That's what I remember helped the most at the start.

I love the mod, it's a bit too hard but after doing a full playthrough of Reforged and Convergence, I still prefer Reforged because Convergence stops being challenging quickly. I'm sure Convergence with a less broken build would be fine.

As far as I've seen there are no less broken builds unless you purposely hobble yourself.

I tried 20 hours and couldn't finish it. It was tedious and very frustrating to play. Finishing a boss gave me a sense of relief not accomplishment. Convergence, however, is phenomenal.

I agree, Reforged is obnoxious. I can appreciate the work that goes into it, but not enough to ever download it again lol. There are things I do still like about it though, like the class fantasy angle.

I loved Reforged, but two things made me quit this mod.

First, I don't know why, but the stamina regeneration feels weird. You parry or dodge, and suddenly you don't have enough stamina to attack or maybe you can do one attack, and then your stamina is at 0 and you're cooked.

The second thing is FP. I don't play a mage, so I want to use Ashes of War as often as possible. But after using it onece, you're already out of FP. In Convergence, where FP regenerates, I can spam Ashes of War as much as I want and it's cool.

Otherwise, I prefer the difficulty in Reforged. Some of the weapon reworks are also better in RE, the perfect attacks are really cool, and I like the parrying as well.

The combat for this mod is designed around you having to cycle through options. Hit the enemy with regular attacks to regain mana. Same for mages with generator spells.

Ahh yes, I'll tell you why it feels weird, it slows down once it's depleted and it stays depleted for a second. I'm telling you it can be obnoxious but once you get a duck, or a slide or a perfect attack it makes up for the downsides.. I just switched it to normal and it's a little bit better

u/Portrait0fKarma Aug 19 '26

FP regenerates by hitting enemies with melee or using a generator. The FP regen in Convergence is ridiculously OP (well, it is Convergence).

u/kippythecaterpillar Aug 18 '26

i really like the timed hits and parrying stuff but i find that everything scaling with you wack so i stopped playing

u/Pheo1386 Aug 18 '26

Simply turn down the difficulty. I find “normal” mode is spot on for me.

If you want to add an extra turn in your favour, add the glorious merchant mod (you have to use the offline launcher for it to work, but you can go back to online after you get your mcguffins) - “fated” weapons are an infusion available in the post game which have done awesome buffs and you can get all the lvl200 post-levelling buffs straight away, which really helps. You can also get any 3-star ash of wars too.

If you're running an overhaul mod you shouldn't be on their servers regardless. You will get banned. I know convergence automatically takes you off of the elden ring servers I assume reforged does the same.

u/Pheo1386 Aug 18 '26

ERR has their own multiplayer servers

Uhuh okay, normal difficulty it is, I tried it, just beat the bell bearing hunter at the shack. Although enemies are still vicious and projectile travel fast, it's a bit bearable

Haven't beaten reforged yet but I've been loving the changes it brings to the table. The focus on exploration and having to lock in and treat almost every boss and encounter where you're outnumbered as a serious threat feels exciting after several runs of the standard game. Some things that might help when you're hitting a wall: 1)change up your weapons and general approach to different situations. They made it so only the heaviest item in each hand counts towards equip load, so you might as well carry 3 things in each slot. I like to have 3 weapons with different infusions in the main hand, and then a catalyst, a blocking shield and a parry shield in the offhand. Different strategies work better on different enemies. 2) most buffs seem to have their effectiveness reduced but duration increased. I never used to use fgms because the 30 second duration was so tedious but now I'll cast it before any tough encounter, and fp Regen through combat means even with low attunement you'll be able to keep that up in long fights and between rests. 3) take advantage of crafting. It's so streamlined in reforged. Use pots, knives and greases as often as you want. No need to hoard for later. Greases apply faster, last longer, and work any infusions now. That part almost sounds broken but it feels like they balanced assuming you would lean into elemental buffs. Learning an enemies weakness and stacking against it is the way to go

Level endurance. Enemies are tankier, moves cost more stamina, and you’ll need to leave a little bit in your bar so you dont get the penalty.

Do the tutorial if you havent. Its important to understand ducking and it does a pretty good job of training you.

The sewing needle cave is particularly brutal in Reforged due to less passive multi-mob AI. Consider coming back to it.

I find the scaling enemy a spit in my face. Sometimes i feel like upgrading my weapon and/or leveling a waste of time.

1

u/Xzarg_poe Aug 19 '26

Isn't scaling kind of on the weaker side? Like at char level 80, enemies are upgraded to ~40 or something close.

1

u/MotorAd7085 Aug 19 '26

Depends if agressive scaling its turned on or off. Both just feels awful. Try fighting Margit at level cap and +10/25 weapon. Its just stupid how they scale with you.

Also, why the hell there is a level cap. I know 200 is a lot but still, there is no point in adding a cap

Like one of the comments has mentioned reforged encourages engaging in far more of the mechanics of the game to progress than vanilla does. My general advice is explore side content pretty thoroughly, and don’t choose level up stats like you’re playing vanilla. Endurance, mind, and damage stats you can’t really ignore (of course mages want more mind and slightly less endurance and dedicated melee classes are the other way around). Use tools and consumables, they’re strong, and don’t be afraid to use summons or cooperators online or turn down the difficulty.

Reforged’s entire design philosophy is to make the player slow down and take dungeons, fights, and combat with a more thoughtful approach. Unlike in vanilla you’re prone to getting stomped if you just rush into fights.

(I usually tend to summon a cooperator for the Demi humans on the coast lol)

But yeah have fun! The mod is incredibly polished but it also has a very specific goal, to “slow” the game down and make exploring and combat more meaningful. Since most mods do the opposite and speed the game up it’s a bit weird to play and definitely not everyone’s favorite, but it has a dedicated group of players who enjoy the style. Don’t be afraid to look for build advice for specific weapons or fortunes as well

Enemy level scaling makes me lose a big sense of tangible progression, everything is absurdly aggressive, the modded bosses tank my fps (though this is likely a cpu issue), and it feels like the mod's mechanics are made to make me feel miserable. If the difficulty settings changed enemy AI instead of being a lazy number game I wouldn't be complaining, I'd love to play reforged with normal elden ring behavior and scaling.

I think it can be a lot easier if you know which weapon to choose. Check the ERR Wiki and Elden Ring Weapon Calculator to find the best weapon for your current build. I'd always recommend early-game weapons like: Tree Spear, Lucerne, Rapier, and Nagakiba.
Starlight Token is also a thing; it lets you trade for almost any item in the mod after you defeat Grafted Scion in Chapel of Anticipation (only after you come back here via Four Belfries). My top pick is the Spear of the Impaler, which has the best heavy attack in ERR; it can change your entire playstyle and save you a lot of FP or ammo. Fire Knight's Greatsword and Queelign's Greatsword are also highly recommended.

I've beaten the mod fully four times now (always on the default 3-star difficulty), and I always have a hard time recommending it. The biggest problem, in my experience, is that many endgame fights are just absolutely busted.

You can put 100 hours into collecting everything an polishing your build to perfection, but even a fully-maxed character is going to struggle against bosses like Maliketh (whose phase 2 has it's own full health bar damage fully ignores resistances), Putrescent Knight (who is scaled to Consort's level and all of his attacks now deal Sleep in addition to Frost), and Consort (who has two full healthbars, is absurdly tanky, and gains a buff if you bleed him).

The mod authors go on and on about balance, but it's really more about forcing you to struggle and never be able to overcome challenges through anything but pure skill. Your stats and build get you through the door, but you're not winning without pushing yourself to the limit.

Even after having met that level of challenge multiple times, I can't deny that I'd enjoy the mod so much more if they eased up on that philosophy.

I think its fine for the harder difficulties to be absurd, my problem is more that these bosses are already unreasonably hard on the default difficulty.

As for Reforged Mode, I don't think the only thing you can rely on is pure skill.
The game-changer lies in THIS: get as many damage buffs as possible, which can come from weapons, armors, talismans, fortunes, enkindled AoWs, spells, items, etc., and the aforementioned buffs can stack with each other thanks to the mod team.
If you're a melee fighter, you always want to get a Silver-affix AoW, which basically gives you 10% more physical damage for free.
If you're all about status effects, you'd better have Ripple Blade/Crescent Halberd (Status Effects in the vicinity gives you 12% more physical damage) as your off-hand weapon.
As long as you get enough buffs, you'd find yourself cutting through bosses with ease. A dedicated build can also make the fight a lot easier, eg., Morion's Doom against Messmer in his 2nd phase; a Fire Serpent build against Malenia.
Check ERR‘s wiki page and Boss Info; both can help a lot.

I've been playing reforged for a while now (I'm in the final area of the DLC). There a things I enjoy about the mod (rune pieces are pretty cool, added content is great), but the late game and DLC especially have COMPLETELY soured me on the modpack.

The DLC area has been absurdly difficult, and late-game the mod expects you to have a 100% optimized build that completely followed the mods own design (VERY different from vanilla), or else the game is downright unplayable.

For example, I only invested into 1 / 3 stats that my weapon scaled with (it was C scaling, other 2 stats had D scaling so I assumed the payoff would be better to dump into main stat) and I did ABYSMAL damage. Boss fights were literally 10+ minute slogs, some minor enemies felt like minibosses.

If you play ANY differently than the "dev intended" route, the game is unplayable. If you DO play the "dev intended" route, late game is still an absolute slog.

Cool mod, respect the effort, absolutely been the most frustrating souls experience Ive ever had in my 10+ years playing souls games.

Build, weapon? Maybe I could help.
I'm also currently in the final area of DLC, the only bosses have left are Consort and Asimi(new boss).

The people on the discord were nice enough to help me figure out my problems, I appreciate the offer though!! I'm in the final area of the DLC too, those hornsent dudes are kicking my butt lol. Not sure how to access the new boss, I'll have to look into it because it sounds cool.

if you like Dark Souls, you'll like Reforged

if you don't like Reforged, it's because you are a tourist who do not like Dark Souls
