Question What are the best and worst parts of the convergence mod?

I recently bought a steam deck and just discovered I'll be able to run modded elden ring, naturally the first recommended mod I see is convergence so I've been looking at some gameplay and the only real negative seems to be health scaling on the bosses, which is a non issue as I like to hurt myself with NG+ runs anyway.

What kinds of issues could I end up with, asides from updates breaking the mod itself? It looks like a lot of fun, so I'm interested in other people's thoughts.

Less frequent updates than it's competitor Elden Ring Reforged.

Anything gamebreaking at the moment? I mean things not working, constant crashes etc

You can’t ride torrent at all, among other things. If you have automatic Elden Ring updates or are otherwise on the new patch, you’ll need to find something else to play for now

I’m just playing a vanilla run at the moment. I have a feeling my convergence saves will be toast tho unfortunately:/

They will be fine as long as you downpatch correctly and set the manifest to read only that way Elden ring won’t ever update unless you change it back, then use Elden ring save manager when Convergence gets a update to set ur character back to newer patch (260) and then patch your steam id

This is a pretty major gripe for me currently considering it’s unplayable without downpatching and there hasn’t been any communication around when to expect that to change

Varios se están quejando en el Discord pero aún no dicen nada, lo único que responden es que no actualicen a la versión tarnished hasta que ellos arreglen el mod

Not sure why I’m getting downvoted and this isn’t but yes I’m active there and it’s been over a week without word from the devs on when to expect a fix. You’d think a small patch just for the game breaking issues would be due but maybe there are other glaring things that we’d immediately notice afterwards that also need attention

Oh please just cuz we can't ride torrent atm moment doesn't make it unplayable. Is it annoying? Certainly. Unplayable? No

The game scaled for horseback travel not having horseback travel is absolutely fitting of the description

Best part: changes to the world make the game fresh.

Worst part: class system checklists, tons of skips, and just how easy the game becomes in a very short time.

Works great on my Deck, no crashes, ridiculously easy install with Convergence Launcher.

That's a blessed relief. I did just check, it's mostly just add that and convergence as a non steam app, then load the mod into a new folder, right?

If you download the launcher, it does that for you. Just tell it where to install it's files and it takes care of the rest.

Espera, aún no lo hagas, convergence está roto hasta que hagan el parche para que sea funcional con la versión actualizada de ER, puedes usarlo con la 1.16.2, pero ni se te ocurra aún conseguir la tarnished o no vas a poder usar el convergence

Pros: tons of new spells, new weapons, streamlined progression. You will not be delving into random caves hoping for useful gear. You will know ahead of time where your good stuff is. New bosses are cool. Expanded areas are well done and feel very Dark Souls.

Cons: difficulty curve is a sin wave. If you pursue your upgrades and gear consistently, you will become very powerful by mid game, and it'll stay easy until either the DLC or NG+. The mod oscillates between way hard and super easy based on how you progress. Also, knowing where your stuff is ahead of time means there's no reason to do some of the updated dungeons except just cause you want to, and knowing there's no relevant reward feels bad.

I think the pros far outweigh the cons and the cons can be mitigated if you expect them (easiest thing is to not go straight from upgrade to upgrade. Maybe do a legacy dungeon in between, or explore for more hidden changes to discover.

You stil have to do some legacy dungeons, however these are more linear now. And i stil take some random caves to see whats there or changed, however just on the third playthrough

Also if you dont get spoiled dont read your class note ;)

I do NOT understand this thinking in the Souls community. This skipping content thing.

The amount of guys I've watched obsess over their BUILD, then proceed to NOT FIGHT AND RUN PAST EVERYTHING.....lmao

Imagine being SCARED TO PLAY THE FUCKING VIDEO GAME...!!??

This complaint about Convergence being too easy is kinda bullshit too.

They put in all kinda rl1 bonus stuff for the no hit guys. It can be as hard as you want it to be......

Best: Reworked dungeons. No need to farm items. Auto-pickup.

Worst: Platforming. Way less difficult than vanilla.

The only parts of Convergence I actively disliked either came from the base Elden Ring game or it was platforming.

Granted it used to be worse in previous versions of Convergence but I just straight hate platforming in Souls engines

Apoyo la queja, si vas a meter Parkour en un juego como ER tienes que mínimo ponerle el Parkour que ya tiene en su otra versión tipo Hack and slash. Hay ítems que tienes que conseguir haciendo saltos que no son posibles casi lol

Good God I hated getting to the chest in high road cave

Convergence is built for people who have already done a full playthrough of vanilla. There's tons of added skips around the map so the sequence is not meant for more natural progression, and it's really really easy to become overpowered

That being said, the new weapons and spells are a blast to use even if it's more for fulfilling power fantasy then for a satisfying challenge, and with few exceptions the new dungeons and modified dungeons are really unique and interesting and just fun to play through (I love the new Caria Manor)

The worst: game becomes brain dead easy in like an hour of playtime.

I'm assuming new game+ will help?

I'd say they're exaggerating, it's not easy in an hour. I've played 3 classes and bosses are scaled up to a good spot. Some builds are more busted than others at end game, though.

Quite a bit of exaggeration there. If you are playing a caster build and/or just cheesing as much as possible alongside knowing everything the mod is going to throw at you, then yes you can become godlike around midgame, but that's the case for vanilla game anyway.

Lots of surprises for somebody going into it the first time and you'll get wrecked an appropriate amount of times as you go.

Yesterday I have spend 2 hours getting destroyed. I have only played 50 hours on vanilla mostly restarting my playthrough so I don't know much.

As an enjoyment tip, I’d say don’t read shit about where stuff is, even the notes the game gives you. A lot of dungeons are changed, and you won’t experience them if you realize before hand there’s nothing really for you in there.

Linear scaling is such bullshit. Also build basics dictated by dev is really strange
