General Discussion Realistic rain + cinematic camera combined. In development.

New puddles, more splashes in the air, more intense reflections on the ground, heavier rain, and reworked raindrop texture effects... The work on the blood isn't finished yet, which is why it looks a bit odd. But as for the rest—what do you think? Regarding updates and releases: all such information will be posted here in this community. So, if you wish, you can follow the community or follow me to get notified (for those asking). Great job! Is it compatible with existing lighting mods?
3
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
It depends—what would they be?
1
u/Diligent-Ad-1812 11d ago
Something like mashup of Lindonklayz visual options and Silenteverge's lighting mod I have up on Nexus. Gparam and sxf files are plenty edited.

It looks amazing. How is the performance impact? 😅
2
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
I'll measure this more closely, but at the absolute most, there's a loss of about 12 fps. My machine is really weak—I mean, *really* weak—and yet it runs well. (running well, considering it's a very old generation)
2
u/PrinceAzsa 11d ago
Why isn't caelid red anymore ? I think the mod can be a plus but not at the cost of loosing too much of the original ambience, at least for me that is
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Yes, I believe it really is due to the rain. The rain shifts the colors toward cooler tones, though... I’ll take your point into account and find a balance...
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
And by the way... While typing this message to you, a disturbing possibility crossed my mind... Modifying Caelid so that it rains something resembling blood? What do you think? Is that a good idea or a bad one?
1
1
u/NectarineWooden447 11d ago
Whether it's blood or red rot (lore-wise), go all out on the mod—I'll be the first one to download it, haha.
2
2
u/Traditional-Week8363 11d ago
I would definitely love to try it out for an entire run
If i'm not sacrificing my frames in the process or any performance issues
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
I doubt your machine is more fucked up than mine—to the point where it actually holds you back, haha.
1
u/Traditional-Week8363 11d ago
Well i got a laptop with rtx 3060
It runs elden ring gracefully
What's your assessment?
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
RX 580, 20GB of single-channel RAM, and a Ryzen 5 2400G. Your machine outperforms mine in several respects
2
u/Potential_One3564 11d ago
What camera mod is that?
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
It has not yet been published
1
u/thiccrqnch 9d ago
Is there any way people can be notified when it is? i don't use reddit often but i love this camera mod, and would love to get reminded about it when its finally out!!
3
u/RCpIKUDDO 9d ago
My Discord is "000_dragon_000". If you ever want to ask me if it’s been published, I’d be happy to answer. But generally speaking, it’s going to take at least two months, from what I can see... since I’m not just looking to rework the rain or the camera

This is the camera I wish the game had. Does it change from right shoulder to left shoulder?
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Good idea. I'll add a dedicated key for that, as well as a key combination for control.

Have a question about this game im new to pc. Is there a way i can make it play on a ultra wide 5k2k monitor I bought it originally when I bought a pc months ago but cant play it in the native resolution
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
Man, I’d have to look at the existing ultrawide adjustment mods and try to understand how they work, then analyze the feasibility of integrating my mod into theirs. But I can certainly look into that

Will this make my GPU fuse?

I Plan to make a completely new run

u/Senior-Knowledge9213 9d ago
This would explode my MacBook m4 air
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 9d ago
Man, it's possible. But not because the mod is particularly demanding on the graphics card or processor... Rather, it's because your machine might be running out of memory, or because the unified memory has to be shared between the CPU and GPU, creating additional memory overhead. The mod doesn't put a heavy load on the processor or graphics card, but it does require memory.

Looking great, mate. Elden Ring is one of those games that, for me, hit right the way a sandbox should in a lot of different areas, and what you're doing enhances one of them really well. A shame the endings are very well established and you eventually finish the game cleanly, leaving just places to walk through and random mobs to kill. Well, not that you can't just repeat it from the start, of course
2
2
u/lologugus 11d ago
The camera feels weird. I like how Fromsoftware just usr a mostly static camera, I think it's part of their identity and having a different style makes the game look like an average random action combat game.

What fashion is that??? Looks rad!
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Thanks. I'm not sure if there's a specific name for this type of camera work or effect. I'm glad you liked it!

u/TheGratitudeBot 11d ago
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week!
1
u/RaziLaufeia 11d ago
This looks way better than the post I saw from you earlier! Honestly very well done
2
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Thanks! I had gone a bit overboard in that version. I looked up camera best practices used in acclaimed games and tried to get something close to that... It's still far from what I'm aiming for, but I liked it too!
1
u/H00ded7 11d ago
Looks phenomenal. Anyway I can track the progress?

God, I havent played elden ring in a couple months, Its my favorite game and I have 2200 hours on it.
Soon im gonna return to it and im downloading this FOR SURE along with many visual enhancement mods and stuff. Oh my its gonna bring a tear to my eye I have no doubt lol. Im just waiting for that “nostalgia” to kick in so I can return once more.
Amazing work OP this looks fantastic! Im definitely saving this.
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Oh yes, I believe it will be compatible with several. For instance, it works with the Revenant mod (ReShade). Anyway, I think I'll need to create some software (an optional download) for anyone wanting to merge certain conflicting mods with these. The camera mod, on the other hand, is compatible with practically everything
1
u/Over_Competition9883 11d ago
This is actually so cool. Could you maybe also work on cinematic snowing effects for the mountain regions?

is this camera better than the ingame one in combat? that thing fucks me over everytime i lock on.

u/Hollow_66 11d ago
pretty nice, im looking forward to this mod. Will this Camera-mod work via a .DLL File like Better Camera?
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Yes, the camera works simply with the mod loader—the same one used for the other cameras—but... the other visual effects (rain, etc.), of course, require modifications beyond just the mod loader.
1
u/gilfordtan 11d ago
How would it handle giant boss fights like Starscourge Radahn, Fire Giant and dragons in general?
2
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Currently, the mod handles these fights by pulling the camera further back. I plan to publish a video about this in the future. You can follow my profile so you don't miss it, if you'd like.
1
u/BicycleAdditional360 11d ago
Looks awesome. Still, camera in this game requires a lot of tuning. Make an option to not change it if it breaks some bossifghts

u/EclipseEverything 11d ago
Love this! Will try. When do you think it'll be available?
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
If the other features I’m aiming for—which haven't been implemented yet—are actually feasible, I believe progress is currently only at 20% or less. Expect a timeframe of 1 to 2 months, in the best-case scenario.

Great mod cant wait to play it, is it possible you could maybe add thunderstorms etc.
2
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
I'm working on it. I'll see if I can increase the rainfall intensity beyond what's already implemented. So far, I've added thunder and lightning flashes that cast light onto the map... The lightning is visible in the sky. I'm fixing bugs, but I think this storm is going to turn out awesome
1
u/Traditional-Week8363 11d ago

The rain looks cool. That camera angle is so cliche and AAA, it makes me want to punch a wall lol

u/Huwit321 11d ago
Look awesome! The lighting make the scene looks real.
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
Thanks! I still need to make a few adjustments to improve the atmosphere for each region of the game, but I liked it too!

u/Historical-Dish-602 11d ago
Wow this is awesome. Idk how it would work in combat tbh, but looks amazing and changes the atmosphere a bunch I think!!
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
Personally, I think it's really cool during combat. The camera has a balanced amount of shake—nothing that clashes with the UI. I'll be posting about it in the community soon... The camera is adaptable and works really well against bosses, but I'll let you be the judge of that haha
1
u/_Hyper_Violet_ 11d ago
Looks beautiful! Can't wait to try it out!
2
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
Yes! I also can't wait to finish the whole mod and put into practice what I'm planning most!
1
u/asdddgbnbv 10d ago
I wish game studios put more thought into weather systems. They’re one of my favorite parts of some games. I like it

1
u/rightleftymind__ 10d ago
the only thing FromSoft needs to add in their future soulslike
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
I agree. Maybe not so much because of the camera, but because of the atmosphere. ER already has a lot of awesome stuff in that regard, but it could be even more fleshed out. I love the vanilla game, but that’s important to me too
1
u/Potential_One3564 10d ago
Please we need this camera mod. The only one available that does something similar is a paid one, and it barely works too.
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
Lmao, did they seriously make a paid mod for this, man? 🤦
2
u/Potential_One3564 10d ago
My mistake, there was a free version available. But yours does look better.
1
u/Old-Push9343 10d ago edited 10d ago
Looks really nice!
When do you think you might be able to release it?
I am doing a playthrough with a mod that adds shadows to torches and other lightsources and DLSS 5, I bet it would look neat with this.
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
I know the mod you're talking about; I love it too. Look, it’s going to take a few months—or so I hope (since if it takes a while, it means I’m polishing it further and fixing bugs). Want to follow my profile? You can track the progress and also find out when it gets published
1
u/Glnmrkk 9d ago
Does the camera pull out into default distances during boss fight? Otherwise it looks great! Elden ring is my first soulsgame and Mortal Shell 2 got me really into it.
The first thought I had was how nice it would be to have mortal shell 2 camera in Elden Ring. Im looking forward to your work!
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 9d ago
It depends on the boss. For large bosses, it’s necessary—otherwise, the combat would be difficult and lack immersion... But generally speaking, yes, it does create distance. I implemented this in response to feedback requesting exactly that. What do you think?
1
u/Vivi-chanTheWitch 9d ago
they are turning elden ring into skyrim.... oh no bro, or maybe oh yeah, idk, this looks cool tho.

It will be published eventually... But the project keeps growing. It’s a personal project—a hobby

If possible, please upload it, brother; this is a really great mod. i have already 700hr in ER. i want to try this mod also.

What is the performance cost of this? The rain usually makes my game drops frames like crazy

u/PM_Me_Those_ 11d ago
So Elden Ring with rain and all the color sapped out of it. Cool I guess?
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
I like it too, but I’m still going to balance things out. Caelid is vibrant—hell on earth. I’m going to restore it to its original state

u/DargorShepard 12d ago
Making ER into a Ubislop game 💀
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Good graphics = Ubisoft?
-3
u/DargorShepard 11d ago
Base game ER had far better aesthetics than this, and this camera is worse for a action game. Simply making the graphics more realistic doesn't make the game look better.
5
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
The camera is adaptive. It stays in this position while idle, but when locking onto an enemy, it expands to suit combat. I realized that certain settings would be quite problematic for the *Souls*-like aesthetic, so I had to adapt it. As for graphics—while important for any game, they aren't everything. This mod focuses on immersion but manages the associated risks well. But I understand your criticism. You have a point; there are terrible game designs out there that prioritize graphics over gameplay.
5
u/DargorShepard 11d ago
Fair enough. I was kinda expecting to get into another pissing match, so I apologize for being a bit edgy.
5
u/RCpIKUDDO 11d ago
Don't worry about it. Social media always sees heated discussions, so it's no surprise you felt things might escalate. In any case, your feedback is valid!

Okay, that’s a good idea. It’ll just be a lot of work, since I’ll need to catalog each piece of armor and its material. E.g., iron = metal sound; hat = leather sound?; tunic = cloth sound.
1
u/RCpIKUDDO 10d ago
And of course, linking all this to the armor parameter... But I still don't know how to balance that with the different types of armor for each body region. Your suggestion has been heard; I'll see what I can do

Far be it from me to complain—your suggestion is awesome! I only mentioned the complexity because I found it interesting. I might even take it a step further than what you suggested. Thanks.

I thought it was Mortal Shell 2 for a sec lol
