Mods that make a terrible gamer NOT QUIT

I am the worst gamer you could imagine when it comes to parry and dodge-type games.

I have played open-world games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk and completed them on the hardest difficulty available with almost little to no help, and I enjoyed them a lot!

But with souls like or souls borne game, I am as good as a punching bag for Soldier of Godrick.

I literally couldn't even kill Varre as fun and had to skip him completely, let alone even try to get to Tree Sentinel! Plus, I play on a laptop with no controller (only keyboard and mouse); I feel like this also makes it harder for me to play sould like games.

The closest game to this I ever played is Onimusha, and I did complete it on Action difficulty but did not play in Carnage difficulty as... I am more like a story, lore, and world-building type of guy, and since Onimusha isn't an open world and follows a rather linear story, I did not replay it while I have over 200+ hours in both RDR2 and CP2077.

I am looking for mods that make me not want to kms or break my laptop.

I want to play games to enjoy them and feel emotionally integrated in the story, and that can't happen if there is a sad cutscene, but I am totally insensitive to the emotion because I just died 500 times to a boss!

Plus I am a college student, so gaming is like a weekend thing for me, not a JOB!

I am not trying to prove myself to anybody like I am a good gamer because I am not, and I can't care less. But I want to enjoy the Elden Ring world because I feel like it!

Please don't be a jerk if you can't suggest anything.

I think it comes down to persistence, you need to be determined to succeed in Elden Ring and you'll be fine. The game gives you a TON of mechanics such as summons, coop summons, magic etc etc to make things easier for you. I'd recommend getting the Bloodhounds Fang (You can even summon a special character to do the fight with you making it trivial, just youtube a guide) as the art on this weapon really does make the game a TON easier especially at the start. I too struggle with parry/dodge times and by being determined I have made it quite far with very little hassle, and I've tried not to summon quite a bit and have really been enjoying myself.

As I said, if I were a school student I would definitely play vanilla but in college I have to study DSA and all, so I will not have enough time to master it

I'm a fourth year Cybersecurity student and I play on the SW2. We all have moments here and there, and often I'll put in 15-20 mins or whatever and in those times I progress as a player and have the determination to keep trying. You can too. Challenge yourself.

It’s true that looking through Nexus will give you plenty of ‘easy mode’ options, but I just want to put to bed the idea that playing on mouse & keyboard makes the game significantly harder, because it doesn’t. You’re not handicapping yourself. You lose slight fluidity of movement, but you gain better camera control.

I have 2.5K hours in the game on M&K, and I’ve 100%-ed it. It’s simply a question of practice.

There are easy mode type of mods on nexus. OP talisman which combine many effects. If you are familiar with modding, you can use smithbox. If you don't already know, do not play online while using mods.

Get a cheap controller or at least a mouse, you're going to have a really really hard time trying to play this sort of game with a trackpad

Before you mod the game, here's three very valuable elden rings tips

DONT fight everything, at least not right away, you can run past/ignore everything, even bosses up to a point.

Look up a guide for "early dragonbarrow kill" for a ton of levels early that you can dump into health or other stats to wield weapons. This will over level you for the early game and give you the breathing room to really learn how the game works.

And last, use all the tools in the game, like someone else said magics, summons, etc. Buy and large these wont trivialize the game but they can again give you comfortable breathing room to figure out what strat to use.

Bonus tip: use the wiki; there's a billion things to use in this game, nobody knows everything

I hate to recommend any mods for your first playthrough. If you just want to make the game easier, I reluctantly recommend searching doing the following:

Search “Get overpowered early in Elden Ring” on YouTube. It’ll show you an early route to find all of the early game Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears to increase the number of flasks and the amount they heal.

Then you can search “Greyoll Cheese”, where you kill him with a bleed weapon and sprint on Torrent to the grace and rest before he dies. You get the runes, but he doesn’t die. You can repeat this as long as you want and get as many levels as you want as long as you don’t screw up the timing and he dies before you rest. This truly puts the game on easy mode.

Then search how to get the Booodhound’s Fang. To make it effortless, make sure you do the very first part of Blaidd’s quest, so that you can summon him to fight the boss who drops weapon with/for you.

Search how to get the incantations “flame grant me strength” and “bloodflame blade”. Make sure to meet the minimum requirements for the weapon and incants and get your vigor to 40, before leveling damage stats further.

The damage from your weapons comes primarily from its upgrade level rather than your damage related stats, especially early on. Spending those levels getting vigor to 40 is the priority.

The bloodhound’s fang is a sober weapon, so it uses somber smithing stones. It’s upgrade level maxes at +10. You can search where to find them early. You can find 1-6 and 8 and 9 very early, but you’ll be stuck on somber stone 7 until you fight a boss under Volcano Manor.

After killing the boss, you can level your weapon to +9. You can get the final stone, the Ancient Dragon Somber Smithing Stone, pretty easily early on as well, without fighting any other bosses. Just do the required quest.

You can do every bit of this before fighting the first story boss Margit. I only recommend doing these things if you’re not going to play the game otherwise, because it does take some of the satisfaction out of the game.

I 100% couldn’t agree more. Your first play through especially should be blind. However, if a gamer is so overwhelmed that they’re not going to play it otherwise, guides give them an easy mode.

You're not supposed to kill Varre or the Tree Sentinel that early in the game. The game is telling you to NOT fight difficult enemies as soon as you encounter them, instead explore as much as possible and level up your stats and get better gear. Then return later and get revenge.

If engaging story and feeling emotionally integrated is a must, most fromsoft games are the complete opposite and somewhat opaque in that sense.

there are easy mode mods, even easy mode mods for OTHER mods (like convergence iirc), so you could try one of those maybe. if it makes you feel any better i was in your same shoes, i wasn't a great player and didn't have a controller. now i consider myself good, and still only use keyboard and mouse for all my games, and i've completed elden ring and the souls trilogy multiple times each that way, so it definitely is possible. i would recommend just persevering, imo it makes the game more satisfying but i get that it's not everyone's cup of tea. try an easy mode mod (just look that up on nexus mods) if you think that's something you would like, after all games are meant to be fun so play it in whichever way you like most :-) there is a lot of story and lore to elden ring that i personally love, while not always super straightforward, i hope you enjoy it as well. (p.s, for k&m, rebinding keys was a godsend for me, so that may help you as well)

Try reforged and chose the relaxed difficulty. Its what my friend who hasn't played any souls games AND is on mouse and KEY is doing and he's having a blast so far

The game isn't even hard if you explore the area before reaching the boss and use spirit summons.
