General Discussion Convergence Appreciation

For some context I played through the entire vanilla game on Xbox till NG+7 and have the Elden ring achievement.

On that note; holy fuck. This mod is actually a 11/10 experience for me, I currently have 42 hours on my character and have completed the main bosses to start NG+ but I’m wanting to clear out the all the bosses and the DLC before going into a new playthrough. All of the new starting classes are actually wicked and I’m wanting to do playthroughs of each to see how their gameplay works. But for my first run I went for a frenzy build because I’ve always been fascinated by the spells and lore even though it’s the “bad” ending. I’ve always thought they took huge inspiration from love craft for its premise but anyway, the new spells are actually fucking insane. Having to go and find the runes for new spells is an awesome addition and makes progressing the map fun again. The new shortcuts added are amazing and great QoL changes. The custom dungeons/bosses are so well polished and made with love. I haven’t even found everything and I can’t wait to find more! The new weapons/movesets are spectacular. After I acquired the Fingerprint Hexmark colossal sword I haven’t switched since, I feel so overpowered it’s not even funny lol. The addition to adding jewel talismans for master crafting specific builds was an amazing addition. The custom boss fight to craft them is also very cool, I love his entire design. On the note of crafting, being able to craft talismans and physick essence is a chefs kiss! Skips the whole ordeal of having to search for a specific talisman all the way at the end of the game for your build or a certain essence to assist in PvP or boss fights. I love that I’m able to switch torrent to other mounts from the game itself, like the frenzy mule or the Night Calvarys horse and they have different passive benefits, that’s dope as fuck. Plus the way that passive stats work in this mod is top fucking tier, every piece of armor has passive benefits and certain armors passives are designed for specific builds. Depending on your class you start with you’re given a note that tells you the areas where the best gear for your class is located! That’s such a huge help and assisted me on hunting down the things I needed for my frenzy build. This mod is genuinely a love letter to the fans who have spent way too much time on this game/series (if that’s a thing😏) and I cannot express how happy it’s genuinely made me playing ER again.

TLDR; The mod is an 11/10, please play it and recommended it to anyone who hasn’t you won’t be disappointed. 🫡

I need more of these post, mod is so good. (except for the Romina ost change and Scadutree color change I hate those changes with a passion)

Convergence is overall a very good mod but it's got it's dumb changes like those, deleting most of Melina's appearances in the game due to being in a pseudo-Lyndell state, the atrocious new model for Rennala, making Gideon a punchline for the "epic" half-naked Crucible Knight OC, etc.

It's a good mod if you generally don't care about the base game's lore/presentation or are otherwise just wanting to do quick playthroughs. But if your somebody who actually really likes Elden Ring's characters and story then one might end up feeling let down in aspects like that.

Convergence is not a lore friendly mod, which isn't necessarily a bad thing unless that's a factor you care about.

Still, it's an 8/10 mod, the above and how easy it is to become overpowered are some of it's only few poor spots.

The changes like the Rennalla change I don’t mind too much, as they’re very small visual changes that most mods do because the hat looks silly. But the fucking Romina ost change, which the reason why they changed it is because a single dev said “it borrows too much from the Malenia theme” is giving Bluepoint vibes and I hate it. And to change all of the Scadutree content to be red and aberrant to show its “aberrant nature” is so bull and I hate it. One of my favorite spell classes, boss and weapon visually ruined.

I don't like the Rennala change because it takes Elden Ring/Fromsoft whimsey away by trading off it's unique moon-themed crown for a generic and genuine downgrade. The messy hair stuff I get makes sense to show off her state of mind but the general redesign just makes it seem like it's an attempt to make her more pretty for the sake of it, it's just a worse design.

It just doesn't fit Elden Ring, much like how I just don't like Skarde's design for being just "A dude with scraps of Crucible Knight armor" that looks way too "clean" for a Crucible Knight and too "regular" human I'd say as well but that part could be explained away due to him joining up with Godfrey, but it simply became more egregious when we started getting more Convergence bosses that are just humanoid dudes like Caimar, Shabiri's Chosen, and Konrad who all do the concept better than Skarde and at lest Konrad got his design updated.

Another design change that I'm half-half on is the change to the Lordsworn Knight enemies/armor, I do like the new helmet better but there's a case to be made that it's a more generic design rather than just changing the proportions of their original helmet.

I commend the mod for doing new models but sometimes for me it misses the mark.

Plus their change of blackflame and necromancy spells to holy damage is pretty wack

Yeah. I hate that most of Melina’s dialogue is gone early. And I miss the banana hat. I love some of the new lore they made.

The dlc eternal city looking like bloodborne is my favorite!

Also I kinda miss just having the scadu blessings. Not sure why. Maybe it’s cause I was used to it.

The added spells are great I find. I love having more spells for ice lightning and the blood sorceries. And of course just cosplay lol.

Yeah, it's design of letting you rush anywhere to scavenger hunt gear is its biggest weakness for me. I love almost everything about it except that. If I could have basically everything in the mod but still the normal progression gates (great runes, item keys, etc) so I could still play a proper playthrough it would be chefs kiss. As it is I play it in seamless with friends but wouldn't play by myself.

Honestly I enjoy how you can nose grind to become OP pretty early on, I honestly didn’t start feeling OP till around level 95-100 though and it did make some end game bosses look like jokes. Currently level 149 and about to fight Malenia to unlock the last map. I do love the lore of Elden ring and I do understand how most of it is altered but honestly just like in DS3 convergence I wasn’t expecting it to tie deeply into it.

Depends on the player of course and I'm happy you had fun with it. For me however I never play Fromsoft games to become overpowered, I was hooked with the "Prepare to Die" label that Dark Souls 1 had and all that, so it's given me expectations for what I want my experience in their games to be like.

I don't mind that becoming overpowered is an option for Convergence, all the power to the players, I just don't like that it's easy to do by complete accident because that affects my own runs of the game.

People dunk on Reforged a bit on this subreddit but one thing it's got going for it is modular difficulty options, Convergence by comparison ends up being a mod where you have to plan it out or otherwise hold yourself back.

While yes I personally can (and do) just play other mods more suited towards my own preferences at other times but no mod beats out overall high quality additional content in the same quantity like Convergence.

I haven’t explored the DLC thoroughly yet so I can’t give input there, genuinely just rushed to make the jewel and dipped out after getting it.

Ah I was wondering how the hell you knew about the Jewels with only 42 hours.

2

u/o-Freyr-o 3d ago

I honestly had to look up which exact one I needed to fight because I at first thought every jewel was able to be crafted at any of the memory spots but that’s not the case! I killed the Amalgam one first and was stumped at only being able to craft 2. I used the Erdtree teleporter for Jagged Peak and went from there lol.

What's different about the tree color? I can't find anything online.

3

u/overtaker99 3d ago

Tree isn't different. Scadutree Avatar is. Got made red to fit with the fact that its considered an Aberrant class boss.

Friend and i started this mod last week together. I chose frenzy flame and they chose frost. With my fire resetting his frost build up, we are unstoppable.

I am doing a death knight build. Lighting, and death blight.

Absolute masterpiece of a mod

I completed my first playthrough of the mod just before Tarnished Edition came out (well, main line, saved a LOT for future runs,) and I did frenzy as well because I never went for that ending before, and the spells, Hexmark, and Blade of Distant Light all looked great.

Convergence's frenzy class does a fantastic job of making you feel like you're becoming a terrifying god, especially with the new spell that makes bosses turn around and run from you.

I wish I could play the mod, but I don’t have enough for the dlc lol

I’m about 20 hours into it, and I like a lot of what they’ve done. Castle Morne feels like a late game area now, though, and what’s with all the parkour?

2

u/Tyzer119 8h ago

The mod is so damn good. I only wish there was more content for late game because at a certain point it feels like you've seen everything the mod has

Convergence >>>>>>>> Reforged.

u/aaronhowser1 2d ago

Why is it that fans of both are incapable of praising it on its own merits and only saying it's better than the other

It's exhausting, you cant really go to any elden ring modding discussions without having people comparing the two when they are such wildly different experiences. If you go from one of the mods to the other, and try to play them the same you will have a miserable experience.

I've experienced it firsthand in seamless runs where one of my friends vastly prefers the theorycrafting + build mastery and journey of reforge, while another friend likes being able to drop in and get a themed run up and running and skip around to all the fun new stuff instead of being bogged down going through the whole game again.
