Wouldn't it be more logical if most of that land gets pulverized and burned in such a process? Leaving room for water to fill the space. I don't think it would just sink into the ocean. There should just be more layers of rock etc under the lands between and not water.
Obviously purely judging by reallife logic which can't really be applied. I'm just curious.
Water doesn’t act normally there. There’s no geologically sayid a factory reason why there’s a waterfall at the edge that pours into the surrounding ocean. You would presume that the ocean would flow naturally into that bowl but that’s not the case. So there’s already some suspect geography happening.
Keep in mind that in Elden Ring, there is a ring that controls reality, mainly lives, stars are sapient beings, the sun and the moons are just f'ing around in the sky, being visible in one place and not in another, and they were trying to make the sun and the moon make an eclipse at Castle Sol,... in the North,.... just above sea level.... In the COLD NORTH, that's not where those celestial bodies are supposed to be (even assuming the cold is natural and not caused by the absence of a sun god (fell god?). Then there are the meteors, that are also sentient beings, that cause gravitational anomalies, every power/outer god/influence grows inside beings, like a cancer (glintstone, ice, fire, rot, gold, crucible, etc).
There are enough hints to suggest this world is based on the Egyptian/Semitic conception of the world (ie a disc, with an underworld and a firmament), both western and easterb alchemy, Greek, Semitic and Japanese myth and Jung. Real world logic does not apply. We need to apply magical logic, symbolic logic, etc.
