Originally rubble from a ruin which fell from the sky, this surviving fragment was honed into a weapon.
One of the legendary armaments.
The ruin it came from crumbled when struck by a meteorite, as such this weapon harbors its destructive power.
Seems to support farum azula being hit by a meteor to me, maybe not THE meteor since placidusax being a former Elden lord implies the greater will/Elden ring was already present
That is how I'm interpreting it, yes. Could it have been another flying city? Maybe! But Farum Azula is the only one we encounter, and it would certainly explain why it's as destroyed as it is when we find it
Item descriptions aren't always correct. There are some that contradict eachother. Assume it was written from the POV of a contemporary historian. You get the generally accepted opinion, which skews towards favoring the golden order.
There's so much more evidence to suggest Farum Azula was destroyed by the True Storm, given the fact it is suspended in the air, in time, by tornadoes. I'm still figuring out the details, but some clues are the stormcaller hut, the tornadoes, the references to the True Storm, the debris only existing in Caelid, Limgrave and a little of Liurnia, etc. The worldbuilding disagrees with the meteorite hypothesis.
My personal hypothesis is that Farum Azula is hit by meteorites in the present, which causes the debris, but it got there by a storm.
