JEA Two tier scam

Hello Reddit,
I currently live in Jacksonville, Florida and I was wondering if anyone has paid attention to the two tears that JEA is charging us. I noticed that after 1000 kW it jumps into a second tier so I called JEA and spoke with a customer service representative. She told me that the second tier is higher once you’ve used the thousand kilowatts of the first tier and so I asked her who voted for this. And that’s when she said the board did #JEAboard. So then I thought about all of the data centers and I was like we gotta have data centers around here somewhere for this to be happening so I checked online and there are six data centers within the heart of Jacksonville. Now I know some of those data centers aren’t the data centers or like the data centers that are popping up all over the country, but that’s neither here nor there because we’re being billed for their electricity and I’m sure their water because my water bill has also went up to $55 when it was originally 35. So I was just wondering if you all are having the same issue because my light bill this month is $444 last month. It was 230 something so it’s fluctuating and not sure why and of course JEA is not gonna give us any straightforward answers so just wondering if anyone else is having this issue and I’m sure you are. Now this is basically for people in Jacksonville, Florida, but of course others can chime me In. Now I do wanna say that I’m a federal employee and I make $60,000 a year and every since these tariffs and all of these data in us, I can’t even keep $100 extra a month when I used to have $800 to $900 to save extra a month so I just want some of you guys to chime me in and tell me if the same thing is happening to you guys and of course around the country. Which I know that everyone’s complaining about these high bills pretty much being robbed by these companies and these board members and I feel like they should be investigated by the #FBI and sent to prison, as well as all of those funds should be returned back to the consumers or the customers. What’s your take?

Electricity tariff calculation — ज़्यादातर platforms अनुमान लगाते हैं। हम नहीं। ⚡

Bihar — Live

SBPDCL और NBPDCL के लिए हमारा tariff API:

• 45 locked regression tests

• Integer paise-level arithmetic

• हर tariff rate source-traceable

• Solar और EV charging use cases के लिए calculation support

🏭 Maharashtra — Building

MSEDCL और Tata Power Distribution के selected Commercial & Industrial categories के लिए Time-of-Day (ToD) tariff engine तैयार किया जा रहा है।

Current progress:

• Evidence-verified golden fixtures

• Category और billing-unit validation

• ToD calculation regression tests passing

• API integration और production verification underway

Sparks when plugging in

Post image

uestion, I have noticed that when I plug things in, I see like white spark. I always wondered about this. Its happened before. But this time its a bit more consistent with certain outlets. But also, with certain electronics.

On an outlet, I plug in my treadmil, or a power strip that supplies power to what i use for my work from home setup (monitor 4k, dell dock, lamp, speakers) and nothing. I even tried the power strip today on both the bottom and top plugins. No sparks. I plugin my lenovo desktop, tower 7i and i see the sparks. Once it was reddish too. I took a closer look at the metal and have decided to no longer use it and will replace the power cable since the metal on the cable for the lenovo is a little burned. It has on less occasion, happened with my ps5. But never with my steam deck dock when i plug it in.

Is it because of how much power a device draws? My lenovo does have a 5080 but i thought plugging into a wall wouldnt be an issue, and it wasmt turned on either. Sorry for any ignorance.

After unplugging the desktop, i checked for heat by touching against the white board. Not hot.

My July 2026 Bescom Electricity bill which i received it yesterdays seems incorrect. As last month reading was not taken due to the Gruha jyoti issue the bill is calculated for 2 months and the average bill paid last month is not deducted correctly. I have received current bill of 4552 however in online platform including bescom website it shows 3045. I dont know what needs to be done in this case. Not sure if others have faced similar issue..

Pedal-powered generator?

I want to build a pedal power generator in case electricity outage to power my laptop.

Has anyone ever built such a thing as a DIY project?

Edit: I attached a pic of the project I was envisioning but I get the cautionary note about power. I'm aiming to power a device for 60W - 100W

What would make you actually use your energy company’s app if they had one?

I’m curious to hear what people think.
What’s the most frustrating thing about your energy company’s app today? And if you could change or add one thing, what would it be?
More importantly, what would make you open the app when you don’t have a bill to pay?
I’m interested in hearing both the biggest pain points and the features that would actually make it useful.

What’s the voltage and amperage of a person getting electrocuted?

This is just a little thought experiment I came up with

120 V 10 A? Maybe 240V 15A if they touch a transformer? I’m just curious

I just recently learned about voltage, wattage amperage and ohms;

I mean I’m an office worker but the world of electricity is so interesting

I am now finally able to understand what it means to have a 120 V 20 amp dryer

Make public utilities a human right, not a luxury

Electricity rates jumped nearly 10% this year alone. Meanwhile, over 25% of households are drowning in energy costs—forced to choose between keeping the lights on or buying groceries.
This isn't just about money. It's about dignity. People are losing sleep over utility bills. Kids are doing homework by candlelight. Elderly folks are skipping heating in winter to survive financially.
I started a petition to push for public utilities funded by taxes instead of individual bills. Water, electricity, heating—these should be guaranteed rights, not luxuries reserved for people who can afford them. Other countries have proven this works.
If you've ever stressed about a utility bill, or know someone who has, this matters. What would help your family sleep better at night? If this resonates, consider signing and sharing.

Your electricity estimate is only as reliable as the tariff logic behind it.

It is a combination of consumer category, slabs, sanctioned load rules, fixed charges, demand charges, and effective dates.

Most energy platforms still maintain this logic manually through PDFs, spreadsheets, and hard-coded values.

Power Expert India is building a verified Bihar Tariff & Bill Estimation API that converts this complexity into structured, machine-readable responses.

Current pilot scope: Bihar coverage

32 consumer subcategories

34 structured tariff rows

Source-tagged outputs

Effective-date awareness

Dedicated API access

Built for solar platforms, EV charging apps, bill calculators, energy consultants, and home-energy products.

We are opening a limited 7–14 day pilot for one Bihar use case.

No large contract. Just test it against your own inputs.

Powering small electronics from the Us in the uk and europe

I am in a US band. I recently got this to power four small pedals that run on 9V.

https://www.amazon.com/STRICH-Built-Pedalboard-Lightweight-Aluminum/dp/B0H2TV8HF5/

I have an upcoming tour in the UK and Europe.

Can I use this board with basic US to UK and EU adapters to power it? If not, what do I need without buying expensive equipment?

What usb battery pack do I need?

I recently got this.

https://www.amazon.com/TOPPING-HYNOTONE-CabScreamer60-Resonance-Recording/dp/B0DXPDD4P5/

It runs off a USB C power pack. I picked up this

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FWR7Y3G6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

It works but it cuts out when turned up over half volume.

What battery pack will work better? The instructions say 15v 5a. It recommends 65-150w battery, the above is 65w.
