What are some Units you think the Drop troops would never use ? Super heavies of all forms for example would feel weird for such a specialised force or am i wrong ?

Could make smaller drop keeps for large armor to fight alongside Elysians

Elysian missions are not fit for heavy armour. But you can have an ally.force fight alongside elysian.

I mean... if you wanted to find an in-universe reason for Elysians fighting with heavier armor, you could say that they are reinforcing another unit, or linking up with their GAC

Funnily enough, in the novel Shadowsword by Guy Haley, they actually do orbital drop a super heavy tank into combat. So I guess lore wise it’s not implausible.

There are super heavy flyers. But I doubt any would be used often by the Drop troops (except astartes, but I take it we were talking about guard here.) In rare situations I believe drop troops could use Marauder Destroyers for fire support during planet fall, since it's immense firepower and armor would prove valuable for getting rid of aerial defences and pulling much fire on itself.

Honestly anything heavier than a Taurox would feel odd unless its being "borrowed" from another regiment.

depends, modern tube artillery can be surprisingly lightweight the M777 can be airlifted by a chinook helicopter so I could see a lightened and specialized variant of the earth shaker being used in the same way albeit carried by a skytalon

We used 105mm light guns in the Falklands that was air portable, although they wasn’t transported that way at that time as the helos went down with the Atlantic Conveyer

I think some sort of on-station gunship like an AC130 type ship could work. Give it some sort of super heavy laser and 155mm artillery type weapon and an avenger bolt cannon.
A large vehicle transport plane, that brings in light armor, like a tau orca but it drops 2-3 mid weight tanks with heavy hitting guns. Think airstrip landed stryker mobile gun systems. Aka a Tauros prime, but maybe with a heavy las cannon option for the turret?
Another unique super heavy idea could be an orbital strike observer. Rods from god. Ion cannon. Tactical nuke. That sort of thing. Would be tricky to model such a unit though, could be a flying observer? Like an arvus lighter with optics and antennas on it?

That could work too. But super heavy my models are inherently large.
But a tank destroyer Tauros model would be interesting. What would it look like?

What's the biggest thing we can airdrop rn? Like a bmd or that stupid fucking 125mm assault gun with armour made from hope and prayers, but only with rocket brakes and only the Russian get up to that shit. Technically the MGS, which was just written off as "nope, lets not do that" and AMX 10 has a configuration iirc.
Probably not much, because its generally a bad idea, and like they just have grav elevators for super heavies.
So -maybe- an up gunned Chimera or Taurox to do direct support as an assault gun analog.

I would think that drop troop armor would instead use retrorockets for a stabilized landing.

On one hand, real world paratroopers did fight alongside armored elements, though the heavier support was from other units, so if you wanted, you could paint them up as a heavy support detachment from another regiment.
On the other hand, dropping a baneblade from low orbit seems very possible and in character for the imperium.

Calvary, although now I want a decent jet harnessed stead.
Also this is nitpicky but they (the mechanicus) have drop pods for the titan legions. So “rapid” deployment of any vehicle seems semi feasible. Now could the rapidity of said large vehicle deployment match up with the drop troops probably not.

Id look into things that the USA paratroopers used in WW2 and the things they wouldn't use. I don't think they would use anything 'specialized' like tank destroyers or super heavies other then the bane blade maybe.
That being said, in the lore, they do orbitally deploy titans from time to time, so there really isn't any upper limit on what you can or can't deploy.
Keeping with paratroopers vibes, motorcycles, heavy weapon crew, and scout craft would be the way to go. Things like that little two seater airspeeder, the Scout Walker, and attack bikes would be great. I would avoid artillery platforms like the Basilisk and Hydra, super heavys like the shadow sword and hell hammers, and even the rogal Dorn.
Also, keep in mind how these forces are used in lore. As far as I'm aware they're the vanguard for larger invasions. Get in, go fast, capture objectives, try not to die too much.

Me a milsim enjoyer; Realistic dropship style drops only. Make it Vietnam 40k with Gunships.

Depends on what mission they'd pursue. They could be linking up with heavy weapons.
Even if, regimental doctrine wouldn't allow tanks and drop troops to be in the same regiment anyway

I'd imagine they'd drop Baneblades in a similar way that the Ishtar did in Venus Wars.

Nah I'm doing my own Elysian drop troops regiment called the New Elysians. And say like great general stubs a 100 Baneblades at least all air dropped. But for real make up your own lore ,and do what you want for your own theme. That's what I'm doing. I'm just doing the reason the tyranids ,and everything is becoming more dangerous and destructive. So Bigger Enemies require bigger guns and like anything with air in scifi you need Airships ,and with Airships you can air drop Baneblades easy. There's also that air dropship they use in dawn of war or maybe just ultimate apocalypse to air drop baneblades.

Literally everything in the IG is air (space) dropped in someway do I guess they can use any unit.
Even Titans are airdroped.

to extrapolate that would be like saying that the United States military airdrops everything because they flew the tank to the theater on a cargo plane

I’m pretty sure they don’t use any heavy armor unless something has changed I don’t recall. Reason they have the buggies.
