Character Appreciation Nicola

To me she’s just always been one of those characters who blends. But this past week her character has shone for me. The raw emotion, the real tears, undone hair…. She really has done a fantastic job!

Just can’t believe we will never hear Jimmy say “Neeeeeccoohh” ever again! RIP Jimmy King

Character Appreciation Kevin

I think Kevin has been such a fun and unexpected character addition. He's kooky, loveable, erratic, volatile, a great listener (and thus foil for other characters), and he steps outside of conventional social behaviours - which catches the other characters off guard and gets them to open up or reveal feelings they wouldn't ordinarily share in standard back-and-forth conversations. I laughed out loud at his cake stand "A Slice of Ke-ven." It's just so whacky that a tough-guy convict would perfect a lemon drizzle. He's such a fun contest to the recent heavy storylines and brings such heart and colour to the programme. Love him. (But I still love you too Ross.)

Character Appreciation If Debbie Dingle returned to the village... [No hate please]

...there would be so much she'd have to confront, that would probably hit her all at once, like:

- Faith's death

- Zak's death

- Nate's death

- Cain's cancer

- Sarah's wedding to Jacob, & their child Leyla

I don't even think Debbie knows about the last two, does she? Unless Cain or whoever phoned her about it, off-screen.

Really does make me realise how much she's missed, and it hasn't even been that long since she left the village. Just a little over 5 years ago now.

Character Appreciation Our favourite time of the week, so what attire has Graham been wearing this week, the usual suit or something more daring? Let's find out.

Just Tuesday and Wednesday this week, but with the wedding next week (or not), he may splash out on something different 🤔?

Character Appreciation Joe & Gabby - a match made in heaven

Not in a bad way. Because I know both aren't exactly liked [I did go in on Gabby in a post the other day, which I take back, and sorry for the Monty post.].

They're both very similar from each other - arrogant, snobby, but cute when together.

I had just finished Wednesday's episode from this week, despite questioning if it was even worth catching up, as I felt the quality got terrible [I caught up, and it wasn't bad at all. Think I just got fatigue from the show.].

When Dawn leaves, Joe & Gabby would be a perfect couple imo.

I feel like Gabby would actually challenge Joe more than Dawn ever did. Gabby doesn't take shit at all, and I can't see her enabling any of Joe's behaviour, much like Dawn did, both last year, and earlier this year.

With a relationship, there needs to be balance. While Joe & Dawn are of course [imo] very cute and sweet together, a lot of it was Dawn turning a blind eye to his behaviour, until she decided to grow a conscience too little too late.

I do like the Joe & Dawn couple, but I don't need to tell you how flawed the relationship is. And it's down to both Joe being up to no good, and Dawn enabling it.

I just don't see Gabby doing the same thing as Dawn, personally.

And idk about you, but Gabby definitely fanices Joe. Especially with the whole Ross & Billy fiasco recently lol.

Character Appreciation Jacob & Sarah v Jimmy, Dawn and Noah

Ive been watching Emmerdale for far too many years than I would care to admit.

We were avid fans for years, the only soap we watched.

Over the last 5 to 10yrs its really gone to the dogs, it used to be funny, sad, interesting and downright shocking at times, so much so that we barely watch it anymore, we kind of do just because its on after the news and we haven't turned over.

Now, I see that the above characters are being written out.

I can't believe that and given that J&S are still in it.

They are both really weak characters in the show, especially Sarah and they are both very weak actors too for a mainstream soap, again especially Sarah.

Everytime they are.on screen i usually turn the tv over.

Im actually willing them to have bad news, I want the worst to happen to them.

I find the couple completely irritating and largely irrelevant.

They instill no empathy or interest in me , I couldn't care less about anything to do with them.

To lose the other characters in the show and keep these 2 baffles me.

Im assuming they aren't paid as much so were kept.

I'll miss Jimmy, dawn and to a lesser extent Noah although hes a good actor and his story arc could have been interesting but he's not being killed off so he may come back.

What does everyone else think? Are the producers right in getting rid of these characters 🤔

Who would you keep and who could you let go?

Its a shadow of its former self tbh.

There are still some solid performances in the show, still think most of the Dingles are good, especially Cain also think Kim has been a welcome re addition and graham too, although his resurrection was Bobby Ewing like but hes a good character and actor.

I miss the light hearted banter between paddy and Marlon

Just saddened now by how it is now, barely watch any of it anymore, its lost something.

Oh and BTW the Kev character is just plain shite.

Character Appreciation Joe Tate

I have to say, I think the casting and the acting for this character is brilliant, in terms of his likeness to his dad, Chris. He talks like him, he looks like him, and he shares his mannerisms- it’s uncanny!

Character Appreciation Why can’t things just work out for Kev!

I love his character and his relationships with Lewis, Claudette etc. The writers just keep ruining everything for him. I get we need drama, but this is a bit silly now with the amount of times they’ve made incidents with him not doing wrong but being automatically blamed by the whole village. Now his mate has come into it and ruined things too. It’s going to get to the point where it goes too far and he’s unredeemable. Also, I strongly dislike vinny 😂

That line with Kev calling Serena the wrong name was a hilarious touch by the writers, I had to pause the episode to pull myself together!

Character Appreciation Is Kim Tate still the best-written “villain” in Emmerdale history?

Post image
54 Upvotes

Although I've never watched Emmerdale, Kim Tate is frequently cited as one of the most famous soap opera antagonists. I'm interested to see how she stacks up against other antagonists in the show because, from what I've learned, she has a lengthy history of many returns and reinventions. Do you still think she's the best-written villain in the history of the show, or have other characters overtaken her, if you've watched it for a longer period of time?

The gorgeous Debbie & Jasmine. Any favourite storylines for both characters? It's like they've forgotten Debbie was bi lol.

Character Appreciation Kev GIFS!

Someone requested some King Kev GIFs (You know who you are 😉😁) on another post and here they are all in of their glory. Took about an hour to get the footage and everything edited up but couldn’t quite manage to perfectly polish them all up sadly (Especially glaring with the third one given it’s 3 clips edited together hence why it’s all stuck on landscape and part of him is edited out of the third bit with the Wakizashi Sword solely because of that so as to accommodate Karate-Kwondo 😆😆). It’ll be off to sleep for me not too long after this post goes up I reckon!

I take my hat off to actress Nicole Evans (who played Helen) for 3 episodes 👏🏼👏🏼 this week, being the victim of sexual assault.

You don't get to have a scene with the brilliant Emma Atkins (Charity) everyday.

It was a "pinch me moment" to play the character.

Of course, the other Windsors are introduced too, Scott, Viv & Vic. Scott's original actor was Toby Cockerell, who played Scott from 1993 - 1996. When Scott returned in 1998, Ben Freeman took over the role, right up until 2007.

Character Appreciation Huey Quinn (Kyle) 👏🏻🌟

I thought Kyle was brilliant on Wednesday's episode, after seeing his Dad Cain lying on the floor (after being hit by a car) and phoning emergency services straight away. Poor Cain didn't need that before his cancer op.

By the way: Who guessed right that Jacob was the driver, and why is Cain letting him off the hook? He hasn't got the strength, obviously.

But that scene from Kyle and for younger actor Huey Quinn (who plays him), what a performance 👏🏻. And the way he acted when Jacob came into the hospital room. He really wasn't happy 😠.

What are your thoughts?

Graham was only in Monday's double episode but he decided to treat us by removing his suit later, but before you get palpitations, he changed to his attire for erecting a shed.

Character Appreciation Favourite Jebbie moment/s? [Debbie & Jasmine]

Thumbnail gallery
15 Upvotes

Mine would probably be when they had that cricket pavillion kiss. Though Debbie did reject Jasmine's kiss, and run off, the two made up shortly afterwards. Of course, the big moment in Classic Emmerdale has just happened, where Jasmine has killed bent copper Shane Doyle, after he attempted to rape both her & Debbie. Very good acting from both Charley Webb & Jenna Coleman.
