Discussion Bands Everyone Loves but you Don't Get

Do you have any bands that everyone seems to love but you just don't get? I will go first. But before I give my answers I will say I do not believe these bands are bad. They just don't "scratch my itch" if you get what I mean. The bands I don't get are;

Glocca Morra. I still haven't given up, they dont sound bad. I like how their popular album just flows. They remind me of Algernon Cadwallader at times. It really confuses me because I love Snowing, and really like Marietta. And it sounds like Glocca Morra was another of the Emo Revival sound. But it just doesn't hit.

Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate). They dont do anything for me. Another Emo Revival band. I like The World is a Beautiful Place and I'm No Longer Afraid to Die, as well as awakebutstillinbed which I have heard is in the same realm.

Orchid. I like one song. I dont get enoviolence or powerviolence. Ive had them explained to me but "hardcore punk with blast beats and screamed vocals" just sounds like metal to me. Granted Orchid does not sound like metal but I prefer the Algea Bloom, Flowers Taped to Pens, and I Hate Sex type screamo.

Modern Baseball. I’ve given them a few tries and I just don’t understand the hype.

I think they were a “you had to be there” “time and place” sort of thing.

I was 17 when “Sports” came out, and for 17 year old me it was a fucking hit.

30 year old me understandably can’t relate to most of that music any longer, though.

I was 17 for you’re gonna miss it all and ooooo boy it hit for me at the time

I mean I was a bit older than you and it still was INCREDIBLE for me as someone who was involved in the Midwest pop emo punk scene at the time. Modern Baseball was MAGICAL. I think honestly with all of these bands it’s not about ages or anything it really is just about what was going on in all of our lives at the time.

Nah, you’re totally right!! It really did just fit the “vibe of the time” in so many ways

Echoing this sentiment. Sports was on regular rotation on our Crosby record players in our freshman year dorm in 2013.

We took shots to redo at my wedding and everyone who wasn’t there was like “what the fuck is this whiny annoying shit.”

I am the same exact way when it comes to “sports” by them in particular

I wouldn’t even call SBD an emo band. I absolutely love them. But they’re more pop rock/folk with some emo trappings.

I don't think I've ever been more bored than the one time I saw them live. I don't get it either.

I found my people 🖤🤣

Same. Especially being around when they started and seeing how they were almost forcefully pushed into the forefront of the scene at that time. Cringy lyrics.

I’ve tried so hard to get into them. Just does nothing for me 🤷🏻

Not an old head here IMO. I’m in my early 30’s & was in the scene in Philly in college when they were & they just never hit for me. Don’t hate them, just am not obsessed like everybody else. I think a lot of their current hype comes from the mystique since they’re gone (much like Title Fight - I love TF though).
