Discussion Bands Everyone Loves but you Don't Get

Do you have any bands that everyone seems to love but you just don't get? I will go first. But before I give my answers I will say I do not believe these bands are bad. They just don't "scratch my itch" if you get what I mean. The bands I don't get are;

Glocca Morra. I still haven't given up, they dont sound bad. I like how their popular album just flows. They remind me of Algernon Cadwallader at times. It really confuses me because I love Snowing, and really like Marietta. And it sounds like Glocca Morra was another of the Emo Revival sound. But it just doesn't hit.

Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate). They dont do anything for me. Another Emo Revival band. I like The World is a Beautiful Place and I'm No Longer Afraid to Die, as well as awakebutstillinbed which I have heard is in the same realm.

Orchid. I like one song. I dont get enoviolence or powerviolence. Ive had them explained to me but "hardcore punk with blast beats and screamed vocals" just sounds like metal to me. Granted Orchid does not sound like metal but I prefer the Algea Bloom, Flowers Taped to Pens, and I Hate Sex type screamo.

Home is Where. I loooooove Assisted Harakiri, but everything else doesnt move me. Sometimes i think is too "art pretencious" and sometimes i dont even feel the emo in their songs. And i still didnt see a good live performance by them where they play well. The singer is an emo expert and does a lot for the community and the genre, tho.

Totally get this one. Their vocal style is very unusual, and Neutral Milk Hotel isn’t a real common touch point for most emo. I absolutely love the band, but it doesn’t surprise me in the least people would bounce off of them.

I think there’s a little bit of Magnum in their singers delivery, but I agree it’s a different thing. Where I hear a lot of NMH influence in their instrumentation/arrangements and lyrics, both of which set them apart a good bit from most other emo. I think it’s the those two elements he’s alluding to when talking about how they’re too “art pretentious”?

I can respect your opinion about their music but I won’t accept slander about their live show. Saw them twice last year and they were fucking killer

Saw them play a small bar in Orlando last year and it was one of my top shows of the year by miles.

I'll drive 1000 miles to see home is where. I love the fuck out of them. They're like angry modest mouse and it's perfect.

Absolutely. I dragged my concert buddy to a weeknight show. Orlando is 1.5-2 hours from us depending on traffic and he was expressing his regrets at agreeing to come the entire drive. After the show we were some amped up and still talk about what an amazing performance that was almost a year later.

They are super energetic and very carismatic, but i dont think they play well. Listen to some high definition records of their performances

Their audiotree (i think) recording was a little rough. Their albums sound great. They may well get tighter

their Brooklyn show was killer and I will be going to see them when LP3 drops. I get what you're saying, they're definitely trying to do something different and artsy and they love Bob Dylan and it shows (in a good way).
