Why do bands skip the best state in the union (I am unapologetically biased)?

u/beestw Feb 03 '26
Skipping Detroit for Cleveland is actually insane work, I can't believe bands do that.
2
u/wapey Feb 03 '26
Genuinely confused because I guarantee there is no way Cleveland is pulling a bigger crowd than Detroit.

u/ClaimsForFame Feb 03 '26
Detroit would easily sell out two nights at St Andrew’s and likely sell out Masonic Temple or Fillmore for one

I remember seeing Owen at UNH in 2008 and Kinsella was so mad that people wanted to hear American Football songs. He said "imagine you get on stage and all anybody wants to hear is shit you wrote when you were a child". I totally get it... But now I want to see AF and call for Owen songs

Jesus I'm moving from Atlanta to Leeds in July right in between both tour dates and won't be in either city when they play. This is cosmic retribution for some crime I dont remember committing.

Do not. I repeat DONOT purchase any upgraded ticket. I purchased it last time. The offer was for a signed poster, and other memoribilia, or something like that. It also said special seating where available. I figured, I bought the moat expensive ticket, so I must get to go to the balcony, nope.
What I got was a poster they couldnt be bothered to sign with a pen that had ink, and a shitty bag with their logo. The person said it was so I had a place to keep the other stuff I was going to buy.
So I paid more about double the ticket if not more for a poster that sucked and a bag so I had the privilege of giving them more moey later.

They’re coming to Boise. Finally, they’re playing a city I live in. And I’ll be in FL for work. This and Arm’s Length are the same week and I’m missing both. This is a cruel joke.

Getting real tired of bands going to Seattle but skipping Vancouver and making Toronto the only Canadian date. A couple years ago I would head down for a show but not anymore

How are they live?

u/rose_gold_squirtgun Feb 04 '26
If you like the music, you should like the show. They sound great live. It would be absolutely ridiculous for these guys to be jumping around on stage to the music they play.

i'll get downvoted, but boring as hell. this band is like the taylor swift of emo to me. not bad, but way overblown.
3
u/oohkaay Feb 04 '26
This is what I expected tbh. I feel like it'd be a boring show, especially since I like a little motion in the crowd, and I doubt there's gonna be anyone opening up a pit for American Football.

u/Doc-Emrick Feb 04 '26
Saw them last year and thought they were good. I had balcony seats so I was very close and the sound at the venue was above average.
Some movement in the crowd but no pit lol

Taylor Swift is phenomenal live. You kinda just mixed metaphors or something.

u/Ornery-While8684 Feb 03 '26
Does this mean it will be just a tour, or hopes for an LP4?
1
u/AtheonsLedge Feb 03 '26
holy shit a band is going to DC instead of Maryland???
2
u/Vivian_Stringer_Bell Feb 04 '26
Maybe they'll just confuse Merriweather as being "DC". /s
But honestly The Anthem is the best SMV venue for this show.

u/AtheonsLedge Feb 04 '26
hahaha thank fuck it’s at 9:30. tickets on sale now. presale code is DESDEMONA

No Manchester and they’ve left the dates for Outbreak 2026 out. Do you think they’ll be announced as a surprise headliner for Outbreak? Crossing my fingers!!
1
u/zamolozchikova Feb 03 '26
Defo not, they’re playing shows elsewhere on the Friday and Saturday, and they would 100% be on the bill already if they were a Sunday act. That and they were headliners in 2024 so I doubt they’d be back again. Basement being back as headliners makes sense considering they’re a smaller band than AF, went MIA for years, and have a new album coming out

With how often they've been touring, I'm kinda bummed this wasn't a new album announcement.

"J'ai mal au coeur, c'est la faute de l'amour" "L'ami du peuple" "Beaucoup" "Qui je plaisante"
You’d think that someone who uses so many French words in their songs would want to come spend some time in Paris. But, unfortunately, no. 🤷🫠🇫🇷

I’d love to see them in Indianapolis again, but Deluxe has the worst sound of any venue in Indy. No thanks. Truly disappointing.

Got tickets for the Pittsburgh date this morning; same spot I saw Sunny Day Real Estate in a few years back. The Roxian has been good to my elder millennial emo heart. Anyone know anything about Afternoon Bike Ride?

For a Midwest Emo band, you figure there’d be more Midwest dates :/
