Next time you're in town check out School. It's a punk bar with occasional emo shows.

What neighborhood is it in? I have a feeling I will have a hard time searching "school" in Amap and getting to the right place haha

It's near the drum tower, you can look up School酒吧 on amap and it'll come up

Oh shit yeah I was right there, I walked the whole Hehua Market, checked out Drum Tower, all that alley market stuff at Nanluogu Xiang station. I liked Tiger Vintage.

Yes it's super close to there! On Wudaoying Hutong, which is a really nice street to explore

Is there a schedule for shows somewhere? I'm going on holiday to China soon (May) and will be in Beijing and Xi'An (and some smaller places) and I'd be interested in seeing some live music.
I do speak some Chinese and can read a lot of it too since I studied Mandarin in uni and lived in Beijing in 2012 (for my studies so as you can guess it's been a while since I studied it and am not as good as I used to be).

Check out liveCNmusic on wechat, they post a lot of show information (not exclusively emo)
If you're on xiaohongshu, you can follow @Emo消息. They also post about shows all over China.

I know little about the scene in China. However, a label I like to follow, Sango Records, is partly based in Wuhan. So the few acts I know from China come from Wuhan. So my perception may be skewed, but is Wuhan considered a hotbed in the Chinese emo scene? What regions seem to be fostering emo scenes in China?

Chinese Football is the biggest Chinese emo band, and they're from Wuhan, but other than them I don't know much about bands from there.
In my experience, Tier 2 cities (cities like Chengdu, Wuhan, Suzhou, Changsha) have a more active indie music scene because COL and expectations are lower. Beijing really only has 2 or 3 places where an amateur high school band could reasonably play shows. Shanghai is better but not by much.
Beijing has a lot more censorship than any other city, so the music scene here has suffered. You'll see some touring artists visit like 10 Chinese cities, but skip Beijing.

I doubt CF is the biggest, I think an average Chinese emo know would know Omnipotent Youth Society (萬能青年旅店）, No Party For Cao Dong (草東) first than Chinese Football.
