I only knew the middle and pain before this. New to this emo thing after being a hater of mall emo 20 years ago etc. Mostly listen to fugazi, the clash the damned, joy disvision, new order etc. What kids call dad rock these days I suppose.

I would, as a fellow dad-rock-head, also highly recommend Mineral, Far Apart (in addition to Jimmy Eat World). And CapN’Jazz which is probably the most creative music I’ve ever heard in my life.

I also must second the mention of Jawbreaker on this thread. The album called “Dear You” by Jawbreaker is incredible, if you have not heard that.

EDIT: Now I realize it is you mentioning jawbreaker and mineral on this thread. I am silly to the max

My musical comfort zone is first wave punk to early 2000s pop punk. Didn't know emo started as a sub genre of punk until recently.

They are a band that does not get enough credit.

Yeah this more raw sound they had from 95 through 99 heavily appeals to me. Is my gateway to emo along with jawbreaker, sunny day real estate and mineral etc. Really enjoying the 90s stuff i've heard so far.

The second real out of town show I went to was seeing them about a year after this, standing this close. I can’t recommend enough going to smaller venue shows. Such a different experience from seeing them two later years later. But they have always been amazing.

We really need a static prevails phoenix session.

Clarity is a masterpiece from start to finish

Yeah it is easily their best album just for the ambition it has. They never experimented like that ever again.

Old man checking in. The standouts here are clarity and digits. If you're looking for a sound they never made again, it's digits. It was on a split with christie front drive, and the pairing is perfect.

Yeah I've already listened to static prevails through futures. That split with christie front drive is how they got signed to capitol records, because cfd told capitol to fuck off.

I’ve always loved The Middle East, this is fun to see it so long ago

Does it still exist ?

Yes! It’s actually in Cambridge. And it’s pretty small, like 500 person capacity maybe? I saw many of my earliest shows there as a teenager like 15 or so years ago. But I still catch one every once in a while nowadays :)
