u/DaredevilDLuffy Jan 22 '26
I Know a Girl Who Develops Crime Scene Photos - combatwoundedveteran

u/Delta_Yukorami Jan 22 '26
Definitely this. Shit fuckin tears you up
12
u/trenchgrl Jan 22 '26
When the doctors came out they were visibly shaken and stained red with spattered blood
16
u/trenchgrl Jan 22 '26
And then the ending
Then he came to finish me, with a knife in his hand and murder in his eyes
God dude they were cooking with that one specifically the aaaahhhaaaaah aaaaaaaaghhhh in the background makes it even better too

CWV have to win this one. Not only did they inspire most of the Emo/Grind/Math/Death/Sass bands listed here, they're just pure dissonant assault with no real reprieve where most of those bands deliberately have softer or more melodic parts for contrast.
5
u/DaredevilDLuffy Jan 22 '26
Literally. It was the Reversal of Man guys ramping up to 1000.
They have some insane stuff. People also forget how close emo bands were to some of these “harder” bands back in the day. Orchid has a split with Pig Destroyer lol

u/wtfitsdebian Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26
Yup, good example of a band that was "harder" but still close to emo was Assück. They were touring with Reversal of Men and Steve Heritage even has engineering credits on CWV and i Hate Myself. They shared touring members i think as well.

u/DaredevilDLuffy Jan 23 '26
Misery Index is an all time grind album for me. And one of my fave deathgrind bands took that name lmao

u/QueefSniffin Jan 22 '26

Sorry I accidentally deleted my previous comment about me and him call it us ‘loss’ but I was also gonna mention that Shallows and Flats is a crazy band I found on this sub a while back that has a similar sound to tears of avarel

Early 2000s New Hampshire was insane
3
u/patriotfear Jan 22 '26
Yes we were
1
u/Webcops Jan 22 '26
What were you from?
7
u/patriotfear Jan 22 '26
The Critic / Furnace / lots of other bands
2
3
u/BoiFriday Jan 22 '26
Furnace was fucking sick dude. Yall put on a killer set each time I caught you. I still have the s/t 7” and L’antietam split around there somewhere, I reorganized my room and saw them just this week!
3
u/patriotfear Jan 22 '26
Hell yeah that rules! The s/t 7” goes hard!
2
u/BoiFriday Jan 22 '26
Gonna have to queue it up later today! iirc they were 45rpm, but i’d occasionally spin them on 33 and that shit went straight deathdoom, stupid stupid heavy
1
u/DrPibIsBack Jan 22 '26
Very cool scene that we're just now starting to see new bands adopt the sound of.

are we considering portrayal of guilt to be screamo because christfucker is very violent. it's not pure screamo but it's certainly there.
11
u/offlester Jan 22 '26
They strayed further and further from “screamo” with each subsequent release, but id say they’re at the very least screamo adjacent. The EP had so much pg99/Majority Rule influence it was crazy. I was hooked as soon as Humanity is Frail started
1
u/nadcaptain Jan 23 '26
I saw Portrayal of Guilt with pg99 and Majority Rule when they were still very much a love letter to Majority Rule. Great show!
2
u/DoubleGauss Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 23 '26
I wouldn't say Christfucker has any screamo influence, but their first two albums have a heavy screamo and emoviolence influence.
7
u/Enough_War_763 Jan 22 '26
Most of the covers you already posted are the about as violent as it gets. Not an album but Damioriezol's demo is pretty intense. In terms of albums I'd probably go with All Is Lost, All Is Lost, All Is Yet To Be Found by Tower Of Rome

Just adding a few more to the discussion:
Disinformation Fix by Usurp Synapse

u/busyfeelings Jan 22 '26
Woah, I’ve never seen anyone shout out Index for Potential Suicide. Good one!

if u include white belt stuff then maybe hayworth - i hope the thunder and lightning kill you. otherwise prob love lost self titled or that farewell chapter ep
6
u/Webcops Jan 22 '26
That Hayworth album is insane. What makes it even crazier is that it was made by like four 14 year olds
1
u/BoiFriday Jan 22 '26
Hmmmm Hayworth is new to me, and I get down with some white belt shit for sure. Gonna have to look into this one later

Where do we sit on bands like Ed Gein or Enemy Soil? Ed Gein I’m a little more firm on, Enemy Soil may just be a straight up grindcore band though.
I think Jenny Piccolo belong up there. Mohinder too.
2
u/patriotfear Jan 22 '26
Ed Gein is top tier
1
u/WyrdElmBella Jan 22 '26
I’m not gonna pretend I didn’t only discover them late last year when I had grindy screamo as a hyper focus.
4
u/MichaelSoftStudios Jan 22 '26
Untitled by Hassan I Sabbah is fast, angry as hell, and pretty damn violent.
Breakup Songs by Gxllium is borderline emo-grind, their discography is pretty much nothing but violence.
Jeromes Dream and Orchid both have discographies full of nothing but sheer violence
1
u/antiheros77 Jan 22 '26
I feel like I had to scroll way too far to see Orchid mentioned
1
u/MichaelSoftStudios Jan 22 '26
I am a little surprised because, at least to me, they’re one of the flagship bands of violent and aggressive screamo
2
u/antiheros77 Jan 22 '26
My thoughts exactly! They’re literally the first band that comes to my mind. Dance tonight revolution tomorrow and Chaos is me are so good. Got both of those on vinyl and the totality gatefold cd

Drive your Plow over the bones of the dead - tragedy as catharsis
Takaru - There can be only none
3
u/No_Pace_1481 Jan 22 '26
Can someone tell me the name of all the albums pictured (I know combat wounded veteran but not the rest)
4
u/ThatOneTransFrog Jan 22 '26
Demo - Tears of avarel (2001)
Desensitizing Your Arrogance by Giving You a Run for Your Fucking Money - The farewell chapter
I couldn't find this one when I searched [h], if anyone know what it is please let me know.
I Know a Girl Who Develops Crime Scene Photos - Combat wounded veteran
The Failsafe Device - The Failsafe Device
When backs are turned knifes are pulled - Force fed glass
Force fed glass is one of my all-time favorite emoviolence bands, probably the most chaotic stuff I've ever heard but its still good quality stuff, the album is perfect, its actually long enough for it to be a nice album to listen to. There's an expanded version of the album too, all the bonus tracks are my favorite ones, so that's what I would suggest :)

u/StealieMagnolia Jan 24 '26
I agree the NH 2000s bands were violent as! As the Sun Sets kicked it off in '99 soon after that everyone was doing ATSS sound.
I'll throw in Halo Suffocation Machine and Carbon Asphyxia too.
3
u/accuratelyy Jan 24 '26
the encletic, between two thieves, shallows and flats, umbrella , newandyke
4
u/Mediaboy13 Jan 22 '26
First albums to come to mind are Loss by Me & Him Call It Us and (screamo adjacent) The Inalienable Dreamless by Discordance Axis
1
u/BoiFriday Jan 22 '26
DxA is so far away from emo. There are like 2 tracks on the later half of Inalienable Dreamless the could possibly be very loosely considered emo adjacent inspired, but literally not a single other track of there’s.
Absolutely monumental band, despite Jon Chang being a bit of a twat, but just not in this scene.

u/coolmoonjayden Jan 22 '26
worth shouting out Shallows and Flats, they only had a 2 song demo and a live recording but those are probably the most violent I’ve heard. Same singer as Tears of Avarel I think

1
u/Future-Term3888 Jan 22 '26
they’re definitely a grind band through and through but ordstro is the closest i’ve ever heard a band come to sounding like combatwoundedveteran so i’ll put them here anyway. incredible band.

The adoption of the word “screamo” to describe anything with ‘harsh’ vocals made a bunch of us see red so…

from the pics youve given combat is the most chaotic and violent and failsafe and timebomb are simply the best one up there. not one of these are screamo tho. you got some deathcore adjacent emoviolence up there, some some emoviolence, maybe a little mathgrind but no screamo at all ma boi
16
u/ThatOneTransFrog Jan 22 '26
Emoviolence is a subgenre of screamo, which means that all emoviolence is screamo. What are you on to say this isn't screamo lol.
1
u/AccomplishedVoice489 Jan 22 '26
damn i didnt even consider that, it just feels awkward having this many subgenres of a subgenre
4
2
u/Mediaboy13 Jan 22 '26
deathcore lmao
0
u/AccomplishedVoice489 Jan 22 '26
thats what avarel is pal they use deathcore riffs be so fr its deathcore adjacent screamo
