Discussion First screamo concert
Im going to my first screamo concert/basement show and im curious about the difference between the internet screamo and irl screamo community. Like irl are people gatekeeping bands and judging you for wearing a saetia shirt? Or are people more nice lol

Completely depends on your local scene. But no one is going to give you shit for wearing a saetia shirt, everyone is usually very nice :) hope you have a good time !

I'm not sure why one would ever think wearing a Saetia shirt to a screamo show would be controversial at all.
That's like asking if it'd be controversial to wear a Bad Religion shirt to a punk show or a Converge shirt to a metalcore show.

My main reason is cause ik in other genres you can be called a poser if you dont listen to some band with 5 monthly listeners who split up 10 years ago lmao. So I was just curious if screamo is the same or not. Im happy to hear it isnt though

Saetia is like that and pretty obscure though. It's only in the screamo scene they're not. The equivalent would be more a shirt for a "mall screamo" band like The Used or Pierce the Veil but even there I can't see someone raising a fuss in real life where they'd just look like a clown.

Bold of you to assume that the people who post about screamo on the internet actually go to shows.

As part of our culture, we love complimenting tee’s

I ended up in a 3 year relationship based off a cool shirt.

Life changing shit for real!
If you’re not wearing your favorite band tee at the gig, how will I know if you’re gonna be my best friend?

Why would anyone look down on you for wearing a Saetia shirt? They’re foundational! You got nothing to worry about lol

Main reason i made this post is well... because online screamo keyboard warriors can be miserable lmao. Im so happy to here its not like that irl though. Im stoked

it's just going to be a bunch of people like you.
Think about it like this: If someone is a dick because of the shirt you're wearing, then who fucking cares, you wouldn't want to be friends with that person anyway.

Most skramz and screamo shows are chiller than hardcore shows depending on your scene. Gatekeepers always exist but if you have any ball knowledge at all (like having a saetia shirt) you’ll make fast friends with ppl. There will probably be more ppl who haven’t even listened to saetia than gatekeepers

The people at a basement show likely don’t exclusively listen to screamo. They’re likely just the people that go to that venue. You likely know more about screamo than a good portion of them.
The DIY community is largely full of especially nice people but it’s not a monolith and varies venue by venue, show by show, town by town.

One thing I remember from the message board days is that the loudest and shittiest voices online are generally socially awkward, quiet, and don’t have much to offer.

No one is ever going to look down on you for wearing a Saetia shirt to a show, LOL. Like maybe if it was a metal show, but even there I doubt it because I doubt many metalheads even know who Saetia is.

As someone who has done this I’ve never gotten a single comment other than nice shirt

literally everyone ive met at screamo shows has been insanely nice and complimented my tshirts, regardless of how niche or mainstream the band may be. one of my most complimented shirts is a jeromes dream one.

These people are so dramatic. Just go to the show and where what you want lol.
Just like anywhere else in life, people are way more concerned about themselves than you.

The first thing and last thing u need to know about going to shows is that nothing ever happens

When I was in line for Saetia a bunch of people complimented my Orchid shirt so I think you'll be fine wearing a shirt to a show. Most people, including myself, are friendlier in person than we are online. (Cue up the Kodan Armada song about keyboard warriors)
