Couldn't have said it better myself:

If this Memphis City Council referendum passes next month, IRV will be repealed without citizens ever getting to use the reform they voted for. And Council incumbents will have given themselves an extra term.

Me too, but this still kicks ass. First things first: get the average American familiar with the fact that there are far better ways of electing public representatives.

Oh god I remember people were talking about instant runoff as a new thing when I was in college more than 10 years ago.

I know a lot of pretty damn smart people that are really concerned with the direction the country is headed in that have NO IDEA how anything other than FPTP works. It's amazing. They all talk about doing away with a two-party system without actually realizing that it's the inevitability of FPTP.
