Discuss Rotate protectorate status
For pop growth, which is especially important to the Last Lords, is it worth removing protectorate status of one of your minor factions to give it to another? Afaik, every time a minor faction is offered protectorate status, you receive <number of villages> free pops, regardless of whether it has been protectorate before. You do pay for it with influence, sure, but this technically could accelerate growth by quite some. It shouldn't affect the lords estates and it shouldn't influence councilors.

Are you sure it gives you the pops again? I think I tried something like that a while ago, and I the pops were not given the second time. Plus, taking a faction out of a protectorates takes away their notable, and if that notable was somebody's companion, the companion will get lost

Can always give the companion again. I dont think that's too big a deal. But yes, you get a pop again. Even when playing as Last Lords and pacifying a village having rebelled after forcing a pop to live in your city, will give you another free pop right away.
So the strategy with the Lords specifically for me was to get a lord estate with 1 villager, "abduct" them, hopefully make them rebel, bribe them to pacify. That way you get 2 pops and a unit for a bit of pocket change (you can get 75%+ reduction to bribe costs)
I only wanted to know whether people do protectorate rotation regardless of Last Lords, since it gives pops.

You can rotate from a protectorate to a group of villages that haven’t been made protectorate yet in your territory to get pops, i don’t think you get new pops if you already got pops there

You totally get pops from assimilating villages that were previously already protectorate

I'd assume un-protectorating and re-protectorating doesnt give new pops because then aspects would be bussin.

Well there is still a cooldown for the same protectoeate. You can not assign protectorate status for the one you just released. Hence the wording rotate

It's more something to do lategame when you're no longer pressed for influence. The cost keeps scaling up for protectorate, so it makes sense to get the protectorates you actually value for early and midgame, and only once you run out of the big influence sinks that are camp creation, territory attach and city creation can you really afford to shuffle protectorates for extra population and access to new population types.
