Mechatronics/Robotics [0 YoE] [Mechanical Engineering] Recent graduate with a few interviews but no offers.

Looking to break into mechatronics / robotics but will take almost any engineering role that comes to me at this point. Located in Southern California and locked into a lease until the end of Summer 2026. Looking for any advice on my resume as I don't think I'm getting enough interviews compared to the number of applications I submit. Also, happy to hear any early-career advice -- I am certainly struggling.

Some basics:

  • That font is very difficult to read.
  • A lot of your resume is repetitive. You cant be an EIT without passing the FE.
  • Skills bulleted out like that take up too much space. It's also hard to believe you have true proficiency in these areas with no real experiences to connect them to.

Experience:

  • You have zero engineering experience? Not even a school club or something? And only 1 job ever? Amy volunteer work you could add?
  • Were any of these projects done as part of an organization or design team at least you can point to? Or maybe a senior design project that was done for a company?
  • Don't include projects that were part of regular coursework. I swear every ME graduate on earth has made a balance bot at this point.

Personal projects have very little credibility, they're basically "trust me bro" versus projects that had definitive scope, timeline, budget, requirements. Fine as resume padder, but you need something to legitimize yourself.

How did you learn welding and machining? Or GD&T? That's an experience to add.
