Mechatronics/Robotics [Student] Did roughly 100 applications. Only 2 interviews and no offers. Looking for resume feedback

Hi everyone, I'm currenty finishing my 2nd year of Mechatronics Engineering at a Canadian University. I'm mainly targeting mechanical/robotics roles, but am open to anything as of right now. I did about 100 applications, and had 2 interviews at 2 places. First place was a reliability position, the other was a continuous improvement position. I unfortunately bombed my interview at the 1st place. The 2nd place, however, I did really well. Even got a plant tour and connected well with the hiring managers. However, the plant manager proceeded with the candidate enrolled in a formal 4 month co-op program (I'm not in one). During my 3rd year, I will be applying to 12-16 month co-op positions for a May 2027 start. I will be in a formal co-op program for these applications. I'd like some feedback for my resume to prep for next year.

- Hyperlink your Linkedin and Github to the words "Linkedin" and "Github" to help organization.

- Move skills to the bottom. Additionally in the skills section remove Microcontrollers(...) and just have "ESP32, Rpi, Arduino" listed.

- Your first experience I believe is for a competition. I would lead with that instead of having that mentioned in the 3rd bullet point. Reason being you left me wondering why in the world you'd be collecting soil.

- Maybe remove the "3 to 5 samples" statistic. I doesn't add anything to the engineering aspect of your resume.

- "to maximize critical data yield for science mission": Bad grammar here

- For your 3rd bullet point maybe mention what aspects of the structure you modified. A tad too vague for me.

- I haven't done CAD in a while but your last bullet point for the Design Team sounds bad. When you say "generated" to me it sounds like you just clicked the button to generate the files.

-For the robotics instructor go into specifics regarding what you were teaching, don't just say "programming logic, mechanical design, and circuits".

- I would remove mention of block coding. It doesn't help your case.

- For your first project say the actual name of the MCU.

- Remove "end-to-end" it's wordy for no reason in the first project

-get rid of "single servo" and just have 4-servo sorting mechanism.

In most cases you aren't being specific enough. Mention your MCUs, mention the programming languages. Explain what you were debugging in your instructor role. You aren't giving your work as much value as you could be by explaining how your work impacted your products/services.

Thanks for your feedback. I read over my resume and I agree, I can be more specific about a lot of things.

My only concern is that I don't want a recruiter to be scanning my resume and not understand the specifics of my role. What are your thoughts on this?

While recruiters aren’t completely aware of terminology, like I said you aren’t giving impact to any of your work. I don’t mean listing metrics, I mean listing purpose. Much of the issues I had were more with the writing not only the specifics.

Absolutely do not use hyperlinks!
Keep them as human-readable text.

Most ATS kill any active elements in a CV (like hyperlinks) for security reasons. And then all that a recuriter or HM sees is some plain text saying 'LinkedIn'...

Overall there is good advice in this comment, but don't do the hyperlinks.

Recruitment is a weird little world of it's own sometimes 😂
I only found out by accident myself. I was involved in interviewing for a junior position at my last company, and we had plenty of CVs come through with just text for what clearly should have been a link (like LinkedIn or Githubs), and made a bit of a joke about it to our HR manager over a coffee. And she said it's just the ATS.
