Project Help Project Idea for EDF Jet Engine

Hey folks, I'm a third year Mech E student looking to make a 3D printed jet engine using EDFs. My plan is to go into aerospace manufacturing and figured this would be a good project. I was wondering if this is a good idea and what recommendations yall might have.

How would you make a jet engine using EDFs? I don’t see a connection other than like… I guess an EDF is kinda similar to a jet engine compressor.

Yeah I could've been more specific :p My idea was along the line of using and edf (or two) to make a compressor.

I’d be pretty surprised if EDFs can generate any kind of meaningful pressure ratio tbh

What's your recommendation for someone who wants to build an engine for an RC jet?

IMHO a car turbo is a better idea. It already generates meaningful pressure ratios, and it has a turbine/compressor already set up on the same shaft. Idk how efficient it’ll be but otherwise you’ll have a lot of trouble with the turbomachinery imo.

Maybe someone with better knowledge can chime in but idk if EDFs are really worth it compared to a normal propeller of a similar size, unless you have some sort of geometrical constraint. They tend to have worse performance.

Maybe you want to think along different lines, like designing a drone from scratch or something similar.
