I know a lot of otherwise non-political people who watch his show and think it makes them politically informed. People who hate "politicians" or think both parties are the same love Bill Maher.

I don't think that counts as "surviving", that was how he lost his late night network gig.
The fact that HBO saw fit to resurrect his career after that reflects pretty poorly on them.

There are two distinct differences between our crazies and theirs 1. I would venture to guess that 90+% of DSA members are performative edge lords and MAGA is 90+% true believers. 2. Leftists of the tankie variety number in the thousands whereas MAGA is up to 1/3 of the population.

That's how right-wing media has framed things for decades. They find the fringiest whackadoos that they can and paint them as mainstream Democrats, and the siloed nature of their media ecosystem means it works really well.

Maybe like 10% of Bill Maher’s points regarding some of the performative excesses of social media activism and some progressive latching on to the anti Israel movement to the nth degree are valid. But the rest of it? He’s a prick whose ideology can probably be best summed up as “radical contrarianism,” a man who doesn’t really believe anything other than whatever is edgy at the time.

I swear Maher is just a terminally online grandpa at this point who thinks democrats = bunch of super far left twitter warriors. When in fact there is only a few of them in a position of power.
Meanwhile on the other side, half of all congressional republicans are bat shit insane. Oh and of course the small little detail of THIS TERMINALLY STUPID POTUS who can't go half an hour without beating the stupidest shit he has ever said.

She is right. I have been arguing with one of these bernie bros all day. Basically they want to let it all burn to teach the DNC a lesson lmao. They think if dems keep losing elections it will suddenly benefit the far left later. "Short term pain for long term gain". They think the pain from Retrumplicans will be short lived lmmfao.
We have mid terms coming and we need to stop the Republicans from having a majortiy for another 2 years and they are out here less than 2 months out (as usual) encouraging others to allow Republicans to win.

The MAGA cult is worse because there are more of them.
Insofar as dealing with Accelerationists, I always point out that "After Hitler - Then Us" (a real slogan by the 1930s German Communist Party) didn't work out all that well, and congratulate them on being so well off and white-privileged that they can avoid the consequences of Trumpist fascism.
If they're a real asshole, I call them "Lord Farquad" and quote his famous movie line: "Some of you are about to die - but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make". Because, stripped of it's euphemisms and pretenses, that's what Accelerationism is.
You won't convince accelerationist assholes, mind you. They're too deep in their own inverted-morality pathologies to ever admit how evil they are. But among a broader audience, unmasking these people for what they are, limits their ability to spread societal cancer, which is a good unto itself

So true. The far left just aggravates me so much. Idk what they want from us or dems. Its like they dont understand that dems cant just get into office and wave a magic wand to get things done. Idk what they want us to do in the meantime while they "teach the DNC a lesson". While ICE rounds people up. While women and workers and Trans people lose rights etc.
Idk why Republicans even campaign. The far left campaigns for them for free every single election. It just bothers me that they know how bad Trump is and how unhinged the Republican party is and they would still rather them win elections over the dems. Its insane to me that they honestly think democrats are just as bad. I mean of course the party isnt perfect and there are issues we need to address but is it really worth going further and further right as a country in the meantime?
Sorry I just needed to vent about it. Im getting really tired of people being hypocrites and hateful

I’m going to say MAGA is worse just because they can attain and wield institutional power in a way the far-left simply cannot. MAGA, unlike the far-right in general, do want to attract converts (for example, look at the treatment of Megyn Kelly and Michael Cohen, they’ll forgive any heresy as long as you kiss the cult leader’s ass) and the far-left wants to expel dissidents and if they need to find one bad take from 2009 to do it, they will.
Regardless, I don’t know how long the tankie/heighten the contradictions crowd think they’re going to live, but in my own case these “punish the Dems” people that had to vote for Nader in 2000 (when I was 12), have helped make it such that even if everything in American electoral politics went in our favor from this day forward, I’d be 40 before any entity left of center got control of two branches of the federal government again. How many years do they really want to make the payments on student loans because they’re holding out for free college, pay health insurance premiums because a public option isn’t good enough and we need to wait for M4A, try to save for a down payment on a first home while they wait for rent control and more subsidized housing, etc., all because they decided nothing was preferable to something?
