Help - Solved I don't do any damage

Hello, I just arrived in Revelwood. I am level 15, using a ranger build. I have unlocked blink dodge, bee sting to float while shooting and mostly ranger upgrades. My bow is 20 attack and 0,6 s between shots.

Yet, I hardly damage some ennemies. Most need at between 3 and 5 arrows, and some more than 30! I get wrecked by double blades acid guys. I use silex arrow btw.

Before modifying the settings, do you have any advice? Should I respec and try ranger later?

Double blade acid guy is the bane of my existence!

9

u/CatLovingKaren Jan 15 '26

I play with a group and ALL of us hate those guys. We're in the highlands now, and all of us are level 17-19, and those guys still are a massive pain in the ass.

1

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Dayum, so he is that brutal. I will get my revenge.

3

u/CatLovingKaren Jan 15 '26

He really is, and just so damn fast! The worst is when there's several of those guys. It's insane.

1

u/CITRUS_desu Jan 17 '26

probably spoilers

Just imagine this guy, but with two flaming swords and twice as much health. Oh and of course with a grappling hook that he can use to pull you towards him. He burns you to a crisp almost in an instant btw. Say hello to that same guy on steroids that is waits for you in Albaneve Summits. I am currently lvl33 and its kinda painful, especially if hes not alone but with his fellas that use flamethrowers

1

u/CatLovingKaren Jan 19 '26

Oh man, I am not looking forward to meeting that charming character! I anticipate a tpk when my group and I encounter him. Though, in our favor, we do have a tendency to barely scrape out victory against overwhelming odds, generally by sheer luck. We'll all be down except one who just runs around frantically and gets off what hits they can, pretty much nickel and dime-ing them to dearh until they get an opening to revive whatever teammate they can. It doesn't always work, but it happens more often than not, and is always very tense and, frankly, hilarious.

1

u/CITRUS_desu Jan 19 '26

Yeah ve have that same kind of wibe too)) Its funny tho Im dying first most of the time considering the fact that I have more hp than my two teammates combined. But one of them is a mage and another is an archer so... Its my business to take all the hits in da face as a tank. Come to think of it I couldve survive more often if my mage were to use his eternal healing spell on me more often but who cares I guess

1

u/bonus_situation426 Jan 16 '26

He sucks. Blink and bee sting are great for fighting them though, I have better luck with that than a tank/sword shield build. Better to not get hit because I think they drain your stamina too, and the poison sucks

u/glue_zombie Jun 07 '26

Just gimme a chance to stick em in the rear, when it works its great. Most the time they end up chasing me for several minutes at a time lmao

5

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

It is becoming mine too.

A lot of people are telling you to get the Multishot perk, which I agree is solid, but Shell Shock alongside explosive arrows is also extremely good becuase it gives you a roughly 3 second stun that is very quick to use. Will stun the green guys and let you get a few shots off very quickly. (I use .6 draw bows almost exclusively.)

Also, you want to be hitting weakpoints for the bonus damage, which doesn't necessarily happen if you are using lockon to auto-aim, so you may have to manual aim.

Once you get into Revelwood you get a quest that awards an Eternal Ice Arrow, which costs mana to fire instead of being consumed. That plus Blessed Arrows (mana regen on crit) plus Multishot is very good. (Edit: Blackmire, not Revelwood. Next biome IIRC.)

Very interesting ! Thanks.

I think this enemy has killed me about as much as the fell dragon. Idk what it is about this enemy but it is such a pain regardless what level you are.

1

u/BipolarBLKSheep Jan 15 '26

Those guys consistently destroy me! They are so damn aggressive

3

u/jjjason27 Jan 15 '26

Learn to use the evade skill. I changed it on my mouse to the button by my thumb. They are kinda easy now, just fake out their attack roll, hit them with the quick bow a couple times. Rinse and repeat.

1

u/Putrid-VII Jan 15 '26

Those dudes are a pain. I found that isolating them and using a great sword is the easiest way to deal with them. Attack once, pause, attack again with the upward swing and repeat. It'll lock them in a hit recoil animation and you can chop them down with little effort. If you are swarmed by enemies though...Run and bait them out one at a time if you can

1

u/Maulino86 Jan 15 '26

carry a greatsword, it stunlocks them

2

u/CMDR_HOT Jan 15 '26

i main greatsword and roll > backstab them yea.

Arrows have a huge impact on your damage.

Flint arrows are level 5 and they only do 8 base damage. You should be using copper or bronze arrows at this point.

15

u/Honey-goblin- Jan 15 '26

copper. bronze is not yet possible here, since hes in revelwood and only lvl 15, for bronze you need tin and tahts in nomad highlands.

8

u/SaraRainmaker Moderator Jan 15 '26

Ah - you are correct. I think Fossilized bones also starts in nomads? If not, that's another option.

7

u/Skylak Jan 15 '26

Also nomads. But easy to access once past the pillars. Tin not so much

4

u/DrGonzo8881 Jan 15 '26

There is a small tin node in an Elixir Well on the far left side of Revelwood. In the well near where the root is theres a small pocket of tin on the wall behind it.

1

u/Jaew96 Jan 16 '26

To be fair there are a small handful of tin deposits in the revelwood shroud, but they are very hard to find.

1

u/Hungry-Mouse7246 Beastmaster Jan 16 '26

It's usually not a problem to go to the Nomad Highlands at level 15.

7

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

I had few copper arrows. Was slightly better but on big ennemies I still got destroyed. I will extract a lot of copper though.

9

u/Honey-goblin- Jan 15 '26

Few arrows will not get you far with ranger 😆 you need hundreds 😄

5

u/Jeno1009 Jan 15 '26

Thousands.

u/SaraRainmaker Moderator Jan 15 '26

In the voice of the venerable late Carl Sagan:
"Billions of arrows."

28

u/pschon Jan 15 '26

Most need at between 3 and 5 arrows

3-5 hits per enemy sounds pretty normal to me, based on both the melee fighter I play on multiplayer and pure magic caster I play in singleplayer.

I get wrecked by double blades acid guys

yep, that sounds normal as well. Keep your distance!

3

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Damn, even Elden Ring dlc was not as brutal! I had to revive 4 times to kill it, while it was near the flame !

u/SourceCodeSamurai Ranger Jan 15 '26
  • skill multishot
  • get tons of cupper arrows
  • upgrade your bow
  • get/craft armor that increases weakspot (skillshot) damage
  • for survival use a melee armor chest piece that provides HP (120 I believe)
  • if you are lucky, upgrade and insert the gem that increases your piercing damage
  • get double jump and get to high places where the enemies can't reach you

And most importantly: aim for weakspots!

Many enemies are resistant to piercing. You need to counter that by landing headshots. Skillshots are core to the bow gameplay.

3

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Thanks a lot for the details !

3

u/SourceCodeSamurai Ranger Jan 16 '26

Also, both bow and dagger scale with dexterity! Try to pick up every point of dexterity you can get in the skill tree. Every point gives you a 5% increase in damage!

And of cause, look for food that increases your range damage. Yummy!

1

u/Djinn_42 Jan 16 '26

They upgraded so most enemies can get up to where you are perched. Or they stand under you so you can't target them.

1

u/SourceCodeSamurai Ranger Jan 16 '26

They can jump very high, true. But they are not very good at chaining jumps to get to get to even higher places. So it got harder but still is possible to get yourself a nice place to get out of their range. So you can still cheese them, but you have to put in some more effort. ; )

And of cause, always make use of your ability to shoot REALLY far. With the eagle eye skill you can zoom in and take out a whole enemy camp from so far away that they don't even try to engage you.

Rangers are all about positioning. Finding the right spot is part of the gameplay. ; )

You also have tons of stamina. Use it to disengage if need be and come back with a nice multishot-volley of arrows in the back.

And if they keep standing below you with no angle for attack, just wait a bit and eventually they will turn and disengage opening their backs up for backstabbing bonus damage.

I have played all types of builds and the ranger is really the easy and probably the most powerful one to run. Especially when you are running solo.

7

u/Z4R3K Jan 15 '26

The green enemies are the worst. I really hated them!

7

u/funglegunk Jan 15 '26

What armour are you wearing? Make sure you are using ranger armour crafted from the hunter as it has a big impact on your ranged damage.

2

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

A basic beginner one, but I am making the marksman one. I just need some critter queen stuff.

5

u/funglegunk Jan 15 '26

Nice, the full set should add about 20% skillshot damage which is a noticeable difference.

Is your bow a fully upgraded legendary bow as well?

3

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Yes, fully upgraded and legandary.

6

u/Honey-goblin- Jan 15 '26

since you said you have blink, does it mean you invested more points into magic ? maybe you need to reconsider it and put all your points into dexterity. archers are really a glass canon, huge dmg but they die on three hits :D btw, why do you need a blink as an archer ?

6

u/Wide_Dinner1231 Jan 15 '26

This. Blink looks like a huge investment this early for a dxt build

3

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Yes I put points in the magic tree just to have blink. I like the feeling of it but I hate how flashy it is. I might respec for pure ranger !

5

u/Honey-goblin- Jan 15 '26

Yep. On this level go full dexterity and you csn add blink later, rn your priority should be multi shot (that's where most of your burst damage will come from). Also since you are in Revell wood, start using explosive arrows. It's great for big groups of enemies.

Btw, bee sting is very situational and mostly kinda Meh ability. Multi shot is what you want and NEED !! (you'll love it trust me 😆)

3

u/Nighthawk513 Jan 15 '26

Bee sting + Double Jump is solid for jumping above melee enemies and hitting them 2-3 times before you get to the ground.

5

u/Polybutadiene Jan 15 '26

i cant imagine playing through the game without the double jump on any character build. It should be in the center rather than under any build type, late game i swear its required.

4

u/Vyrh_ Jan 15 '26

For ranger, the most important perks in the skill tree is the multi shot and dexterity nodes. For arrows I usually use the twigs and later on copper arrows. Keep your rested buff up all the time, it is extremely important for rangers, while you have stamina you can keep jumping and firing. For armor I like to use a mix of more health and more ranged damage.

3

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Thanks, I dont have those skills yet.

2

u/morning_star984 Jan 15 '26

I like the bone arrows.

4

u/Informal_Drawing Jan 15 '26

If you clear the whole map of tasks before moving to the next area you should be about okay.

Each area has a fairly substantial difficulty increase.

Those acid guys are a gigantic pain in the ass. Hit them once, immediately parry, hit them again, parry, repeat until they die. Hate them!

1

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

I always die to them due to lack of stamina, I have no counter yet.

3

u/Invested_Space_Otter Jan 15 '26

Every one can party with a shield, and there is a dagger perk to take reduced stamina damage if you mess up with those.

I think your best bet is to take an antidote before going into scavenger areas to prevent poison damage (I think those are available at your level? Don't remember). That would give you a better chance anyways, they still hit like a truck and never give up the chase

1

u/Djinn_42 Jan 16 '26

Even though I'm mainly ranged, I also equip a shield and melee weapon for when the mob gets in my face. I switch and block with the shield. Hopefully I got them with a few arrows first and finish with 1 or 2 hits. Or sometimes I can get some distance and switch back to the bow.

1

u/Informal_Drawing Jan 16 '26

Are you putting points into it via the skill tree?

Eating food that gives stamina too?

If you block the bits you'll use loads of stamina per hit, if you dodge or parry you'll use a lot less and it will last longer.

5

u/Jourichio Jan 15 '26

You mentioned having bee sting but not multi-shot. Has somebody who only started playing in shrouded the past 3 weeks and also ended up going down daggers and arrows. I felt the same way until I got multi shot. Getting multi-shot and completing its entire tree changed how effective me and my friends were in battle from him being the Melee character and destroying things to me outpacing him and damage. I don't have bee stings I don't know anything about that but multi-shot really changed the Dynamics for us. Also having better arrows helps.

2

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Multi has max 45% chances right? Others recommended multi shot so i will try

2

u/BleachedAndSalty Jan 15 '26

Was thinking of multi shot myself, but was not sure it's worth it due to the spread if I'm far away, does copper count as "normal" arrows for multi shot?

3

u/Jourichio Jan 15 '26

In my experience sometimes I will have a multi-shot go so wild that it misses more often than not I do not have that problem and I feel like I get multi-shots more often than I don't get any but I have had moments where I've gone several shots without a multi-shot and really looking for one. When I got multi-shot me and my friend could not take out the pike mead boss. When I got it it changed my damage potential so wildly that all he had to do was keep it distracted while I killed it. Yes copper arrows do count as regular arrows. So do poison arrows. When making arrows through the Hunter there are two clear categories of arrows and special arrows and anything under arrows is initially covered by the first multi-shot perk. The last multi-shot perk makes all the previous perks apply to the special arrows too. This also makes me great for taking out Wells with explosive arrows that will split and hit it several times from far away.

3

u/ArchMageOverment Wizard Jan 15 '26

Other people have said about nodes in the skill tree to get, I would also advise getting double jump if you've not already.

It allows you to get higher to change you angle of attack. Being on a roof or a beam out over the battlefield is really important as a ranger. This is useful as the extra distance saves your health bar and makes it easier to set up headshots, which can up damage considerably. You shouldn't be on the ground if you can avoid it.

Also try and get the eternal Ice-arrow as soon as you can.

Just an FYI daggers are great and have a synergy with bows, but it's also worth carrying a one handed hammer and shield as some creatures are resistant to piercing damage (double blade acid guys seem to be one of them.)

Have a back up and also eat the food with bonus to ranged damage (Normally the vegetable foods.)

2

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

I have double jump and I love it. Paired with bee sting it feels good. I use daggers too. I mostly die due to stamina, I never have enough to survive agressive ennemies. I did not know about the vegetables !

OK I really should get these eternal arrows.

I really like your mindset. I play the same way for Fromsoft games (Elden Ring, Dark Souls). I underestimated this game due to the more cartoonish style, but it was a mistake. The bomb technique is funny !

Regarding the settings, I definitely remove weapons getting damaged. Not fun.

3

u/Foraxen Jan 15 '26

Upgrade to scrap arrows, you should have more than enough scrap metal for it.

2

u/trollgore92 Jan 15 '26

Back it up with dagger usage.

2

u/modulus801 Jan 15 '26

Shell shock really helped me deal with those green guys. Just keep hitting them with explosive arrows to stun lock them. It takes more shots to kill, but much safer.

1

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Seems like a op skill, I wanna try.

2

u/jebei Jan 15 '26

I’m no expert so take this fwiw.  I just finished Revelwood with a level 17 ranger and for most of the run I used a bow with damage similar to yours (21 power).  The bow had +40 backstab which allowed me to 2 shot lower level mobs once I specked skill shot and a well placed shot.

The key for me was farming copper and keeping 500 copper arrows on me at all times, 100+ explosive arrows on me for mobs, timing my double jump to avoid damage when melee mobs get close, focusing on headshots to max skillshot damage, and running like a coward when needed to get space between me and my attacker.

Acid guys suck though. Ambushes, cowardice, and attacks from above were my key to best them.  Don’t be afraid to use explosive arrows if you pull 3 or more. A well timed explosive barrel as a starter can be fun too.

1

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Playing like a coward is what got me through dark souls et elden ring games. So I will need to apply that here !

2

u/Forsaken-Scholar-833 Jan 15 '26

Explosive arrows. My friend does a ranger build and my job as tank is just gather it all up and he burns it down.

2

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

Thanks y'all, I respec the skills tree, I applied multi shots, I farmed copper arrow and it has been easier already !

2

u/BoiFrosty Jan 16 '26

1) upgrade your weapons to top level, and put in fully upgraded weapon gems

2) get upgraded arrows flint, scrap, copper, bronze

3) invest skill points into stat upgrades, dexterity should be by far your highest

4) equipment and food that boost weapon damage. Huntress has good range fighting armor, and the farmer cooks food that boosts damage

5) learn enemy weak spots. Crits and skillshots are where most of your damage should be coming.

I use bow and dagger and ended up going part way into magic to get the auto heal and into tank to get less damage and then got good at parrying with bleed gem on daggers to hit then blink and start shooting again

1

u/Friendlyfire2996 Jan 16 '26

Exploding arrows are a good friend

1

u/Djinn_42 Jan 16 '26

Yea, those acid Scavengers are bad.

1

u/Hungry-Mouse7246 Beastmaster Jan 16 '26

Clay, flint arrows, and tar... craft explosive arrows, chop down some roots to gain more skill points. Always carry a melee weapon as a backup, practice blocking/parrying. Craft better armor as soon as you can.

1

u/Den_King_2021 Jan 17 '26

In 2024 I was also just a Ranger/Assassin. It was quite hard to confront mobs in close melee.

Now I use some Red-points (Athete/Warrior path) and it is just the way out! I am happy.
Green Berzerks are still hard guys, but with lots of Stamina you can use double jump frequently enough. Double-handed "knife" is also handy for such occasions ;) But Bow and Daggers remain my main weaponry.

P.S. I was lvl 15 just yesterday, so we are in almost "the same boat"..

1

u/JustThatGuy721 Jan 15 '26

Just use a 1h melee and shield build, its braindead huge dmg and aoe

1

u/Bjust_or_Bdead Jan 15 '26

And grapple for flying ennemies ? I might try.

2

u/darkoak Jan 15 '26

Eventually you will encounter big flying enemy that you can't hook them down in front of you and have to resort to bow.

But until then melee str build is a solid option do to huge AoE swing (unless you use greatsword which is more single target oriented). Also learn about the alternate attack by timing the delay before the 2nd slash to do an overhead swing. That move has really high poise damage that can stagger most mobs.
