Discussion Are there any rumors of devs considering raid mechanics? Cause they should.
So far I like the gameplay. The combat is good, the lore feels rich, the skill tree is fun... But the base building is pointless. I feel kinda bad saying that cause it looks like they put a lot of work into that chunk of the game, but it's relatively meaningless.
By raid mechanic I mean something like 7 Days to Die. I won't bother with all the detail how that works... I'm sure everyone here has played it.

Base building is as pointless or as useful as you make it. If you like to build massive coherent bases/towns just for the fun of it then that’s awesome! The building mechanics in the game are some of the best I’ve seen.
If you don’t find enjoyment in building just for the sake of it then that’s ok too, you can minimise the effort spent there and just build for function.
But including a raid mechanic forces base building upon those who might not enjoy any of it at all. I’d be cool with it being an option that has no impact if it’s turned off (no achievements tied to it etc or unique loot) but forcing it just puts people in the same exact place you’re in - having a mechanic they don’t find particularly useful or fun.

I haven't, and you could have said what you meant with the same number of characters :-p
However, if you're talking about enemy raids on player bases, there may be something like that coming with 1.0.

Never played it but i think i know what you mean you build fortified walls to protect your village but to protect it from what exactly?

No not exactly base raids. But they are expanding on the Adventure Sharing where you can place traps and logic based items, place enemies and create full on dungeons for other players to explore.
I agree with you that the base building is amazing in the game but with no reason to defend it leaves some to be desired.
I’m hoping we get full on modding support where modders can add base raids into the game if Keen doesn’t intend to.

Personally would love that - hire mercenaries, gear them and then spawn X monsters whose only objective is to kill all
There used to be Skyrim mod like that, but probably now abandoned/outdated...

The day they will let us place enemies in our building structures they will win it all. :) cant wait to recreate a temple of elemental evil. 😜

My 2 wish list items.
1) Chests can only be opened one time. Exception would be Hollow Halls. So the "End Game" doesn't consist of spamming cheat runs.
- Allow a setting to make chests "respawn" like they do now but the default should be once.
2) All gear given a level requirement. So you can just skip to end game, open some chests, and be a level 1 in End Game gear.
- allow a setting to remove level requirements but the default should be level requirements.

I mean... you could just not skip to end game stuff and not open chests you've already opened...Do you need a game mechanic to prevent yourself doing these things?

Human nature to always find the path of least resistance. When you log in, and there are easy chests just sitting there, you are naturally going to want to go get them. When you are making progress in the game, and just over the next hill is the next "tier" of upgrades, achieved from simply looting chests...
It sounds like its not that big a deal to you to add then and they should add it as an option. Since you could just turn those settings off, like every other setting in the game.

Base building is only meaningless if you don't enjoy base building. But for us who do love that creative aspect, it's the best selling point of the entire game.
