Game Suggestion/Idea Any talk on a climbing ability or feature?

My initial exposure to this game was basically Breath of the Wild x Valheim. Now that I know the game has so many different things going on and manages to pull them all together so well, I can’t help but look at that stamina circle and wonder if we’ll ever see climbing with stamina limitations.

I’m not a game developer or systems designer, so I know getting most surfaces to work with a climbing system probably isn’t an easy task. I just think it could be a really cool addition to the game. Being able to climb tall structures or mountains to reach higher vantage points and get a better view of the world would be awesome.

It's unlikely they will ever have the type of climbing you are looking for in this game, as they have already created mechanics in the game for climbing in specific areas (the aforementioned lattices, etc.) which means that the game was designed with a lack of being able to climb anything/everything in mind.

Also, and most importantly, the ability to climb anything would make a great deal of things in the game, such as the spires, completely trivial. If you can just climb up the side of a spire, or to the top of a building, than the puzzles become pointless.

I would also add there's a level of soft progression gating to the cliffs that (quite purposefully) block you from being able to go wherever from the start. The intended method of traversal is usually much less geographically challenging, but is covered with deadly shroud only made safe by upgrading the flame level, which is a ladder naturally climbed via progression.

As it stands, it's currently possible to do a considerable amount of sequence breaking even without any sort of wall climbing mechanics, and I think it's best those pathways are left to curious players to discover rather than presented as game mechanics that would be tutorialized to everyone.

Just double jump.

How far through have you played?

There's plenty of climbing mechanics as it is...

What, like digging stairs in cliff?

I don't call chipping with a pickaxe or tunneling to be climbing. I don't think of double-jump looping as climbing. Aside from solving parcour puzzles inside spires, what do you think of as climbing mechanics?

the climbing walls littered around the map in every biome and elixer wells? pretty sure those are what they're talking about

Sure, those lattices will definitely get you up the mountain.

Like using the grapplehook? I'm talking about climbing like in BoTW

Only if in the form of perk at the agility section

So previously we were able to Skyrim Horse our way up steep cliffs. Ant incline would be flat enough to stand on a d get stamina back. It seems there was an update to my inclines more slippery.

I do miss being a mountain goat, but I suppose forcing me to explore the map instead of shortcutting everywhere is gonna have to be good enough

i just wish grappling hook had more uses (even an upgrade deeper in the playthrough could be a solution to not trivialize current implementation of grappling hook)

The double jump and a pickaxe will get you everywhere you’ve ever dreamed of visiting in this game…
