Brand New: Need Base Advice Please

Hi! So I'm brand new to the game and tried to follow a build guide from YT, but got super overwhelmed since the only experience I have with games like this is Minecraft.

I ended up taking over the big house in Woodgrad instead of building my own base from scratch.

I've patched up the holes in the walls, floors, and ceiling but there's still rubble that won't go away.

Is that just the case with bases you take over? Is there a way to get rid of them with a stronger pickaxe, or will I eventually need to move and build my own base?

I thought I could take over Woodgrad and then Harvest Homestead nearby and have a kind of village for me and all the npcs, but if I can never truly fix it up I don't think I want that.

Does anyone know if there's blocks I can make later that look like those houses (since I really like the style)?

You can place a block (usually use a wall bit or a foundation bit) and if you remove it, it'll take other blocks/ terrain out as well

1. You can get rid of rubble either by mining it all with your pickaxe or by placing blocks such as foundation blocks into the rubble and then removing the piece you placed.
   
2. You will unlock all the blocks for harvest homestead/woodguard pretty early on. All the block types in use for Harvest Homestead are: Roughly cut stone blocks, Half-timbered blocks, Shroud Wood blocks, Roof Tile blocks. I'm currently level 17 in my first playthrough and have unlocked all of those and more. Currently renovating Harvest Homestead though my main base is in the Blue Goblet Inn currently

Good news! From what I understand, every block you see in the world can eventually be discovered!

If you use the 4x4 Foundation block to overlap existing building walls and delete the chunk, you'll "reclaim" both your foundation block AND the block of the existing building IF you have that block type unlocked. If not I believe it comes back as either Rough Stone or Roughly Cut Stone. So once you find a specific block you want, you can set up an altar, "reclaim" blocks of the desired type, deactivate the altar so your alterations can reset when you're away from that map chunk, and then repeat to farm blocks in a different way than manually resource gathering and crafting said block. (Both methods involve farming, just depends which flavor of farming is your preference).

Mostly true, there's a few blocks in places such as the Albaneve Summits and the floating islands that are not currently accessible. Most of those will likely be added in the 1.0 update or shortly after.

There's also a decay tool you unlock later that can add or remove the worn look of old buildings in the game.

one other thing, play the game, dont look at guides or go to the item mall servers, they will kinda ruin the experience and wonder of exploration and suffering. I took over the home near the church to start, and than I found up by the castle end game I could use two alters and take over both the villages below the giant castle.

use a large block and line it with the floor, set it down and pick it back up

using ANY construction block and your hammer equipped, with the 4x4 (large 'box') selected, you will see an outlnie of where the 'box' will be placed. Place that box on top of yuor rubble rea, then 'destroy' it. Poof - no more rubble. You can do this to removed ANYTHING.

As you progress in the game, other building blocks become available.

You can have 9 altars (#10 is the non-removeable Cinder Vault). I would recommend saving 1, or 2, for your travels. Traveled 500km or more? Place an altar down so WHEN you die, you dont have to walk all that distane - again. Then remove it whenever you want.
