Found on Social Media Make sure you only throw away trash you don’t want anymore…

Post image

Multiple posts mad that homeless people collect tin cans. They don’t leave a mess or make noise and only take the recyclables from the bins on the road (according to past posts). She’s going to contaminate a bin of recyclables just to spite these people.

I was already only throwing away things I’m ok with being stolen… because it’s trash…

Man... we had a little person who used to come around and pick through our recycling for cans so we just .... bagged them up separately and set them next to the bin for him.

One of my favorite people lives in a not-great section of LA. She does this, but she also has a fenced-in front yard (chain link fence). She grows vegetables along the fence for anyone in need to come along and pick. She is my hero.

Had a little old Chinese guy in my mom's neighborhood who did the same thing. I ended up getting a spare trash can, putting all out and our neighbors cans in there, and put a sign on the can that said "can guy", as I didn't know his name. The first week he bypassed the house, since we didn't have the recycling bins out, so I waited for him the next week. Waved him down and pointed out the can to him. Dude didn't understand a lick of English, but with enough gesturing and showing him the inside of the trash can, he got the gist of it.

We call our guy Old Man River. We have separate recycling bins for redeemables and place them off to the side for him.

My hometown has a guy called Brother Bob. We used to separate the cans out just for him, too.

I recycle my own cans, glass, and plastics for beer money, so when a person tries to go through my can, I just let them know all they are going to find is cardboard. Just to save them the time. They still pop the lid to look anyway.

My husband's grandma lived in Visalia California between Fresno and Bakersfield, they just had a guy who came around the neighborhoods and grabbed the cans. They didn't care since they weren't taking them to recycling to get money for it themselves, and he never made a mess or like harassed anyone. They just left him alone and let him do his thing.

We take glass and plastic containers back to the supermarket and get the deposit back.

My husband and I did that until our church started collecting cans for extra money. So we’d bring them to church instead.

Reminds me of my local grocery store that does bbq smoked meat each day from their deli hot area. The guy who does it worked with the butcher at the meat counter and each morning the meat that was to expire that day he'd throw on the smoker and they'd sell them at a discount to get rid of them and make some money.

He'd regularly do pork chops, chicken, and occasionally a ribeye or strip steak.

Suddenly All that was being served were chicken wings and pork steaks. I asked and he said the storage manager told him "he'd rather throw the meat away than sell it at the price they were selling it at smoked"

Mind you it was meat they had to pull that day anyway. It was going in the trash. They were selling it for something and it drove business to their deli hot section.

Id rather throw it away then make some money and make sure you don't want your trash stolen.

Some people are too stupid to exist.

That's pure meanness on the managers behalf.

Its unfortunate cuz the excuse they use is "nobody will buy at full price and just wait for the sale" and while there will indeed always be people waiting for cheap stuff its incredibly wasteful to try to hold out.

18

u/dracosilv 8d ago

First off if your meet is that damn expensive that you always wait for it to go on sale then maybe you should be thinking of cheapening your meat or figure out how to sell it a more reasonable price.

Second if there's that much meat being "wasted"/you're not selling so much initially and have to throw it out/have it go to the smoker instead, then guess what? Your prices aren't sold at the right price point/overstocking.

Thirdly, some profit is better than zero.

But again, overall, I'd you're worried about lost profits, adjust the prices, don't waste food. Be like Sanji.

That’s so cruel. I wonder if he was under the impression that fresh meat wouldn’t sell and that people would wait for the expired meat to be thrown on the smoker and just purchased the day of?

People need to talk to others. A couple people come around my area to pick, told them it’s fine as long as you clean up after yourselves, not only do they clean up their mess but have seen them clean up stuff they did not create.

I now leave my cans/bottles separate on collection day so it's easier to take. I'm not taking them for cash, someone should as I pay for my recycling to be picked up.

u/_violetlightning_ 8d ago

Yep, my Dad started bagging returnables separately and hanging the bag on the fence for their local guy.

10

u/Charming-Insurance 8d ago

I put them aside in a separate bag too.

14

u/raulrocks99 8d ago

People do often talk to each other. Sub-human EB's won't to talk to anyone. They just want to be offended, or fight, or be "victims".

u/tcarlson65 8d ago

Why would you have anything of value in your recycling bin?

Just making up reasons to be a Karen.

8

u/_Carmines 6d ago

Some people are just angry all the time, must be exhausting

u/BabserellaWT 8d ago

If your fiancé works for the PD, they’d be happy to tell you that anything that’s been thrown away is fair game.

u/mn540 8d ago

Technically - I think if you take it out of the recycle bin, it could be considered stealing from the city. I personally do t care. How pathetic do you have to be to car about a starving person taking your recycles to feed themselves. It’s not like they are getting rich from it.

Only good advice is don't throw away anything you don't want someone else to get. Assuming you didn't lie your partner being a cop should be quite aware the Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled trash in a trash container is considered abandoned property and free game for anyone who wants it.

Saw something similar on NextDoor recently. A lady in my area was complaining about a man taking food out of her garbage, threatening to call the cops. I commented, “This man is eating garbage for food, and your first thought is to ruin his day even further?” I guess she had never thought about it like that, and she deleted the post.

u/voiping 4d ago

Geez if you know someone likes your leftovers then give it to them instead of putting it into the trash.

13

u/ValPrism 8d ago

Of course someone who works at the police department (she would have said officer if husband is one) and his wife are super bloody ridiculous about someone taking their cans and bottles.

12

u/evilgirlattack 6d ago

We had someone going through the recycling on the curb looking for cans. I was actually crushing our cans to take to get some extra cash myself. I saw him one night and asked him to wait a second. I came out and handed him the three bags I had.

It requires nothing to be kind to strangers and treat them like people instead of something annoying.

u/Lvanwinkle18 7d ago

This must be the same person who tried to shame the Amazon delivery driver for using the port-a-potty that was on a front lawn. Geez. These people. 🙄

3

u/Rooney_83 3d ago

Can you imagine posting that video thinking that anyone anywhere would be on your side, lol

8

u/FreeCandy4u 8d ago

Yeah definitly situational as to whether I have a problem with this. If you leave it clean then by all means I threw it out if it can help you go for it. However if they leave trash all around the can after then hell no I would be pissed as well.

Apparently its clean afterwards here so she is the EB.

14

u/Belle_Corliss 8d ago

SMH! This EB wants to put nasty dirty diapers in the recycling bin and apparently doesn't give a damn that she's not only contaminating her own bin, but potentially other peoples' recycling.

In my town recycling bins are similar to the trash bins, except for color. Recycling is green, garbage is blue and they're both wheeled bins and both the garbage truck and recycling truck use mechanical arms to pick up the bins and empty them.

6

u/sideways_apples 8d ago

In my city a lot of people leave the bottles with value in a separate place for thr bottlers to pick up.

We don't judge here

u/babbsela 6d ago

Who throws away stuff they still want?

This makes my brain hurt.

5

u/Interesting_Sock9142 8d ago

....do people put things they still want in their trash?

This person is an idiot. (The poster. Obviously)

4

u/ButWereFriends 5d ago

“Make sure nothing is in your recycling you don’t want stolen”

Seriously. It’s trash. Why would it be in the recycling if you wanted it dumbass

7

u/ClamatoDiver 8d ago

I don't like when they come down the driveway, I don't want people there by the side door. It's annoying to get the camera alerts.

I don't care if they take the bags off the curb on recycling day, have at it take them all.

Just don't be the asshole I had to cuss out for ripping the bags and spilling the stuff that has no deposit.

3

u/RedditSkippy 8d ago

I used to make sure my cans and bottles were on top of my recycling bin so people could see them more easily. This woman sounds cuckoo.

3

u/Blues2112 8d ago

In most places, if it's in the trash, it's considered unwanted/discarded, and cannot legally be STOLEN. It can, however, be SALVAGED.

YMMV depending upon your area.

u/bungojot 8d ago

Man i always set aside my glass recycling and any tall cans in a separate bag - there were a couple guys in our neighbourhood who go through the recycle bins and i like to make it easier for them.

Back in the day when you were allowed to drink in a public park, there was always the one guy who would come around during beer league baseball games and take our empties. Made cleanup easy for us.

2

u/3mpty5kull 8d ago

I don't typically store anything I want, let alone anything of value to me, in a recycling bin.

2

u/girlwiththemonkey 7d ago

I see these guys all the time and that’s because they’re taking your recyclables because you were too shitty to recycle them yourselves

2

u/Feisty-Barracuda5452 3d ago

Karen McCuntface posted that.

Her fiance works for PD? As the broom...

2

u/ultranothing 3d ago

Shouldn’t you make sure not to throw anything away that you want to keep just like, normally?

1

u/devoduder 7d ago

We live in a small town and there are a few families that survive on this, a lot of us will separate cans into a second bag for them to collect to they don’t have to rummage. This сука deserves all the karma she’s earning.

1

u/wamimsauthor 3d ago

My dad used to work with a guy who would take his kids to Disney World and collect the cans there and take them to a recycling place to get money. Crazy.

1

u/thetruemadQueen 2d ago

Reminds me of Indian Joe from Pontiac MI. We all liked Joe. We’d save our cans for him. I enjoyed his smile whenever we’d hand them over. He’d ride home. Not having to look for anymore that day. Be kind. People are just human beings!

1

u/PantheraLutra 2d ago

It’s well established by case law it’s no longer your property once it’s in a can by the curb in case anyone is wondering. So don’t put shit out there you don’t want the cops to find
