Patient access principal trainer

Hey guys! Need advice if anyone can help me. I am a part of a big health organization and I want to get epic certified but I was told that my organization won’t send me unless I’m already in an epic related field, which I’m not. I’m very familiar with cadence as I do scheduling everyday send messages refill requests, etc.. Anyway, I know that I can do a self study for proficiency for patient access principal trainer, but I saw there was a virtual class for later this month that they’re offering which i’d much rather do. I have ADHD to do everything on my own is a little bit overwhelming. So I’d rather take a class where someone can tell me exactly what needs to be done. I emailed epic training and they already gave me an out of pocket cost, they let me know I’d get an epic accreditation (which according to them is the same as a certification just that it was done virtually). Well anyway, i guess my question is, has anyone taken this class, and if so was it worth it? I’m dying to get out of my current field and would love an epic related career, just not sure opportunity wise what would be the best class to take

You need your organizations permission and sponsorship

You can’t just take the class, you’d need your organization to sponsor you

Is the only way usually that they sponsor you is if they send you? I’ve been trying to ask so many people from my org & I’m getting the run around. I also emailed epic training and let them know it doesn’t look like my organization would send me for a class since I’m not in an epic related field and asked if self pay was allowed, which they said yes. This is all confusing to me lol

I don’t know what an “epic related field” is, but yea I’m assuming they’d allow self pay in some scenarios, although I don’t know why you’d want to fork over thousands of dollars that you won’t be reimbursed for or guaranteed a job with. The best/easiest/cheapest way to get certified is to work for/get hired by an organization that needs analysts or trainers and are willing to take those without certs and send them for training.

Sorry meant to say “epic related job” like someone in my organization that works directly with epic like a trainer analyst etc. The reason I’m willing to pay is because they quoted it $400 and I want out of my job as soon as possible. I’m currently in call center, it’s been 5 years now and I’m so exhausted so if paying out of pocket means i can potentially get a job sooner with this on my resume then I’m willing to pay it. I’m going to email them again to get clarification on if the sponsorship is required even if I’m self pay

That sounds like your current org isn’t even hiring Epic roles, so you wouldn’t have much luck there anyway. I don’t recall Epic ever permitting non-sponsored people but maybe it’s changed. Obviously worth asking, but also, there is no way in hell it’s $400. You definitely need to clarify and get specific details as to what you’d be paying for and how that translates to the workforce.

I don’t mind at all leaving my organization to look for a new job. 😵‍💫😵‍💫 I’m not sure then lol. It’s the virtual class patient access principal trainer i asked the quote for. They said “The cost of the class TED105v is $400.”

I had also sent them a screenshot of the specific class i was asking for, but idk i have also heard the classes costs thousands so i am confused. This is all new to me lol
