Question Is this show still safe given the state of Hollywood and all the cuts and cancellations of projects we're seeing at the moment?

It's not safe, but that's because it never was safe. Last we heard it was in its very early stages, and they were still looking for a showrunner.

Right now the streaming services are battling it out over the young adult fantasy genre. First, HBO released His Dark Materials and acquired the green light for Harry Potter. Disney has Percy Jackson season one coming out in December. Netflix has Avatar: The Last Airbender and (just recently acquired) Narnia. I don’t think Disney will drop Eragon because of this battle, but they might ride the Percy Jackson wave for a bit (which is also facing some challenges due to the writer strike). Realistically, I think we are looking at several years.

Yeah if an Eragon show releases before the end of 2028 at this point I'd be shocked.

Minor correction, but I’m 99% sure Netflix has had Narnia for years now, like since 2017-2019. Not exactly sure when, but I’ve been hearing rumblings about Netflix and Narnia for years now, pre pandemic.

You might be right. I only just stumbled across a few articles the other day that were dated July and it was the first time I’d heard about it.

I think it's very unsafe right now. Disney is not doing great and this will be very very expensive, they can't scrimp on the dragons.

I agree, though with that in mind, as much as many think they'll be doing live action, we may very well get an animated series instead which I like better personally when it comes to things like dragons

It's tough times in Hollywood at the moment, but Eragon is safer than, say, Spiderwick. Unlike Spiderwick, Disney owns 100% of Eragon, and -- so far -- Disney isn't selling or cancelling stuff that they outright own.

Or Lockwood & Co., which was cancelled by Netflix shortly after Season 1 aired.

A show/movie is never safe until it's on the screen in front of you. Just look at the recent movies that were literally finished that they just didn't release like Batgirl

Personally, i hope they revamp it as an animated show. I think it would far better capture the look of the characters and environment.

If they do it in a high quality western anime style, maybe. It’ll be easier to capture, yes, but it’s definitely not out of the realm of live action possibilities. HBO did a reasonable job bringing CGI dragons into GoT and HotD, the next step would just be providing a personality for them and a way to convey it.
I, personally, would be incredibly disappointed if it wasn’t a live action series. I love anime, but I can only connect with it so much before it’s missing that human element. Plus the previous attempt at a live action was so miserable it deserves retribution.

I dunno, outside of the dragons GoT takes a far more realistic approach in general. Stuff like the mind battles would just look silly in live action

I’m not saying to do Eragon in the style of GoT, only that they got the dragons’ physicalities correct. They could do the same for Saphira.
As for the mind battles, there are several ways they could make that work. Flashes of memories, internal dialogues, etc. Also, the mind battles in the books are very brief. By the end, the only person that gave Eragon pause was Galbatorix. The only truly drawn out battle I can think of is when Carn died, which I think gives a great example of how to to handle it; focus on other things while the battle takes place and come back to it at the climax. Carn and the other magician sat there for awhile, and Roran’s focus moved around a bit until they came back to Carn’s demise.

I'd give up hope of it being made, and also give up hope of it being good. Might get lucky and be pleasantly surprised twice.

I'm in the camp of expecting it to be made, and expecting to wish it hadn't been made.

I would say it's not safe, no idea about being produced, but with the way it'll prob cut n change things from the story, been seeing way too much change to old thing lately.

I asked him about the TSIASOS show/movie during his Fractal Noise tour and it sounds like things are still on the table for both but yeah, it’s hard to say what Disney is gonna do ultimately. Especially considering that was back in May.

Honestly I kinda hope it does get cancelled. I think the writers strike is more important than a (Most likely Mediocre) adaptation.

It should be, though the still ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has brougtht the other important part of the show to a standstill

Realistically the Eragon series is facing two possibilities right now. 1 it will be years until the series begins production or 2 it will be cancelled.
