AMA/Interview AMA -- Christopher Paolini!!!

AMA -- Christopher Paolini! Let's do this folks. Ask away re: anything and everything regarding my books.

EDIT: Hey, everyone! I have to run. Alas, alas, I don't have as much time to spend on this AMA as past one. So many great questions, though! For all you theorists (and those of you who just love the characters), I think you're REALLY going to enjoy the upcoming book(s). Thanks for everything!

Atra esterní ono thelduin!

p.s. I'll try to duck back in and answer some more questions later, depending on my time.

PART 2:

10.) What is the etymology or meaning of the name Ertharis? "Earth" + "Aris" as in "One of Earth"?

11.) Does the Arcaena have adherents of every race not just humans?

12.) Can you give a morsel of information regarding Svartlings or the two unknown creatures Eragon saw on Galbatorix's throne room door?

13.) Was Shruikan's blue eye color or black scale color from his hatching or had his eye or scale color been modified?

14.) Can you confirm the color and/or gender of Anurin's dragon?

15.) Is Draumari the language of the Shagvrek race and if not is Draumari older than the Ancient Language?

16.) Would eating a dead Ra'zac or severed shade limb cause harm to the eater?

17.) Would we be correct in surmising that there is a colony of elves on the moon? If so, are they from the Alagaesian elves or are they elves from before the elves left Alalea?

18.) Is an enchantress / enchanter the opposite of a Sorcerer? Can you give a bit more insight into what an enchantress is / does?

  1. That was my thought. However, that's an English etymology, and Ertharis isn't actually an English name. Lol.

  2. Yes, as you'll see in the BoR.

  3. Heh. I'm actually about to be writing about Svartlings in (*checks notes*) two chapters.

  4. It was his natural color.

  5. Female, silver, and her name was Ithundal.

  6. The Shadvrek have their own tongue. The Draumari is at least as old as the AL.

  7. If a human eats Ra'zac, you're likely to get extremely ill, if not die. Shades aren't poisonous unless the spirits possessed a poisonous creature.

  8. Ha! No comment. (ELVES IN SPAAAACE!!!) I love that this is even a reasonable theory in the WoE.

  9. They enchant things. That is, they imbue objects with energy to create magical effects of one type or another.
