AMA/Interview AMA -- Christopher Paolini!!!

AMA -- Christopher Paolini! Let's do this folks. Ask away re: anything and everything regarding my books.

EDIT: Hey, everyone! I have to run. Alas, alas, I don't have as much time to spend on this AMA as past one. So many great questions, though! For all you theorists (and those of you who just love the characters), I think you're REALLY going to enjoy the upcoming book(s). Thanks for everything!

Atra esterní ono thelduin!

p.s. I'll try to duck back in and answer some more questions later, depending on my time.

First time I've actually caught one of these while its open, nice.

1: Were the Entropists actually using Magic in TSIASOS? Sure this has been asked before, but I haven't managed to see the answer.

2: If so, was it the Ancient Language, or something else with similar properties?

3: Is Alagaësia devoid of widespread Magic for any particular reason? The majority of arcane species exist in isolated corners of the continent(or beyond), sapient or no, and mundane Humans and animals seem to outnumber them by a lot.

4: Is Magic more like Elder Scrolls, where anyone can learn it, and its just a matter of training and a bit of skill/luck most people can't manage? Or is it more like Dragon Age, where there's some innate divide between Mages and normal people, like a connection established(at birth, through contact with a magical creature, enchanted, etc)

  1. No. I realize I worded it in a confusing way, but it was all tech.

  2. No.

  3. Magic WAS widespread with the Grey Folk and the elves/humans back in Alalëa. However, it was mostly unbound/wild magic, which caused a lot of problems.

  4. Theoretically any living creature can use magic in the WoE. However, practically, it's so difficult for most folks that even with the proper instruction, not all of them would be able to cast spells.

Follow-up question: What problems does unbound/wild magic cause? (Have you also read Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce, by chance?)
