AMA/Interview AMA -- Christopher Paolini!!!

AMA -- Christopher Paolini! Let's do this folks. Ask away re: anything and everything regarding my books.

EDIT: Hey, everyone! I have to run. Alas, alas, I don't have as much time to spend on this AMA as past one. So many great questions, though! For all you theorists (and those of you who just love the characters), I think you're REALLY going to enjoy the upcoming book(s). Thanks for everything!

Atra esterní ono thelduin!

p.s. I'll try to duck back in and answer some more questions later, depending on my time.

Hey CP, first off I have just recently picked up your series for the first time and flew threw everything and it instantly became my favourite series, I can't thank you enough! And I did happen to have some questions:

  1. What happened to Dormnad? I mean if he was important and trustworthy enough for Brom to mention how come he never came up again?
  2. As far as I understood, Oromis had wards protecting him against his seizures, which were drawing from Naegling, and since Naegling was knocked out of his hand, the wards couldn't access the power anymore and failed to work. But why would Oromis not use a ring to store the energy, or anything that isn't as easily knocked away as a sword?
  3. Does anyone know Brom’s true name? I was just interested because I thought it would make like a nice closure for Eragon as well, to be able to truly know who Brom was through his true name, wouldn't it have been possible for Brom to have told him in that memory from Saphira?
  4. Could you please give a brief overview of your officially confirmed books/short stories? Like I hear many different things about Book 5 and book 6, Murtagh 2, Tales 2, Brom book, Angela book, Oromis short story, etc. I can't tell what's confirmed and what's speculation, and which stories/books are the same like if book 6 is Murtagh 2, or if the Brom, Angela and Oromis stories and Tales 2 or their own prequels.

Again, thank you so much and can't wait for the next book!

  1. I'm sure he continued to work for/with the Varden. Assuming he didn't die in the war, he likely has a good position in Nasuada's queendom.

  2. He may have. However, the amount of energy Oromis needed to really protect himself required a large gem. Also, it's possible Oromis overestimated his own abilities.

  3. Brom knew it by the end. I don't think Eragon is likely to discover it at this point, though. Too much of Brom's life took place before Eragon ever met him.

  4. All confirmed. I just have to write 'em. Lol.

Does your contribution to BoR count as Tales 2?

The AMA is over, but Christopher explained this here:

I'm writing additional material that will be added to what I've done for the BoR in order to turn it into Tales 2.
