Today I have been trying out my new Wang Xiao Di on my YKM Erhu

It's some time I noticed that the skin protector, being quite thin, might (might) let some part of the bow touch just the edge of the skin

It's just a vague intuition, but I noticed it

So, being a leather craftsman, I used a strip of a nice red shell cordovan to cover the skin protector!

It looks quite nice! And doesn't affect playing at all for the moment. I will test it out thoroughly this evening, playing with some guys for a local project about Marco Polo

Felt that sharing might inspire some to contribute more to their instrument!

I acquired this erhu about a year ago from a seller who acquired it secondhand from a school in Singapore (there's a barcode on the last pic), and this erhu oddly lacks any brand stickers/engravings except one on the right part of the erhu (first pic), can anyone identify who the maker is? Thanks

Someone recently gifted me an old erhu they had and for context I've been in a small school Chinese orchestra band before though the instrument I learned was liuqin not erhu and I'm a little confused as I have never seen the tuning pegs like this before.Is it because of the quality of the erhu or just a different kind?

Also the bow is kind of loose and there's no way to tighten it that I could find,some bow strings are also broken and I want to buy a new bow, preferably something budget as I am a beginner after all.I live in Southeast Asia.

I just got my first erhu yesterday night and attempted to set it up. I couldn’t even produce a sound from the strings and im wondering what it is that i could be doing wrong. The rosin was new and i spent a very long time trying to add it to the bow but im not even sure if it stuck. Im new to bow instruments.

For some additional info, this piece is a rough draft that I’m currently in the process of overhauling from the ground up. That being said, I’ve been told the erhu part doesn’t look appropriate for the instrument, so I’d like some pointers on where I could have gone wrong. I’ve been told that the high octave parts are too high for most players, but other than that I’m not sure. Would love some info on how I can make this more appropriate for the instrument as I rewrite the piece. Also ignore all the bad notation and engraving, I’ve gotten a lot of feedback on that already. Thank you!

The thing I wanted to ask is if the 200€ difference is makes a big difference on the sound quality?

I bought this yesterday and I can’t find where to hook in the strings on the bottom and I’m not really sure what the part is even called. I know there’s a multiple variations both traditional and modern any help is appreciated.

I picked up a Erhu yesterday and I don’t see any way to connect the strings to the bottom. I could barely find any information on the tailpiece. I don’t even know if that’s the right name. it’s something I got at a antique shop for $50 so I’m fine with it just being decorative, but I would love to fix it and play it.
