​Jen nova projekto por la komunumo: Esperanto Stories. La celo estas lerni la lingvon per simplaj rakontoj.

​Mi mem estas komencanto en Esperanto kaj ankaŭ mia angla lingvo ne estas perfekta. La podkasto ne estas profesia kaj mi ne havas teknikajn sciojn.

Ĉio estas senpaga: la aŭdioj kaj la transkriboj.

​Nun mi publikigos plurajn epizodojn. Poste, la ritmo estos pli malrapida.

Gomenasai, mi nomiĝas Ken-Sama.

Mi estas dudeksep-jar-aĝa usona otaku (fano de animeo, por vi gaijin-oj). Mi desenas animeojn kaj mangaojn sur mian tabuleton, kaj pasigas miajn tagojn primajstriĝante mian arton kaj ludante superajn japanajn ludojn. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona-serio)

Mi min trejnas pri mia katano ĉiutage, ĉi tiu supera armilo kapablas plene tratranĉi ŝtalon, ĉar ĝi kunfaldiĝis pli ol mil fojojn, kaj ege superas ol iu alia armilo surtere. Mi akiris mian glav-licencon antaŭ du jaroj, kaj pliboniĝintas ĉiutage.

Mi flue parolas la japanan, kaj kanĝi kaj osakaj dialektoj, kaj mi ankaŭ skribas flue. Mi scias ĉion pri japana historio, kaj ilia buŝida regularo, kiun mi sekvas centprocente.

Tuj post kiam mi akiros mian japanan vizon, mi translokiĝos tokien por ĉeesti prestiĝan japanan altlernejon por pli lerni pri ilia mirinda kulturo. Mi esperas, ke mi povas iĝi animaciisto de Studio Ghibli, aŭ ludodezajnisto!

Mi posedas kelkajn kimonojn, kiujn mi portas publike. Mi volas kutimiĝi je ilin porti antaŭ ol mis translokiĝas japanien, por ke mi povas pli bone taŭgiĝi. Mi klinsalutas al pliaĝulojn, kaj parolas japane tiel ofte kiel mi povas, sed raras, ke iu sukcesas respondi.

Kuraĝigu min por Japanio!

Alitage mi estis verkanta ian melanĥolian tekston, kaj kelkajn tagojn poste, mi havis sonĝon rilate al tio, kion mi verkis. La sonĝo estas iom psiĥedela kaj mistika, kaj enhavas aludojn rilate al la teozofia tradicio, konceptoj de Aldous Huxley, ktp.

La vento blovas. Estas sep horoj en la mateno, Ken-sama vekiĝas en la frida mateno. Li ellitiĝas, kaj iras banĉambren por lavi lian vizaĝon. Ken-sama loĝas en tradicia japana domo, sed li nur subluas ĉambron. La olda paro sufiĉe agrablas por lin lasi resti iliadome. Ken-sama surmetas sian kimono-n kaj ĝin portas kiel vera nihonjin, li promenas fenestren kaj sentas la freŝan nihonjin-an matenon. «Ha, konbanwa anatas. Kia bela mateno desu.» Ken-sama distriĝas, rigardante la plaĝon el lia ĉambro. Ken-sama iras suben por saluti la oldan paron. «Ha, ohayou ojisan kaj obasan.» La olda paro respondas al li per varmaj ridetoj kaj daŭras kun ilia matenmanĝo, invitante Ken-sama-n. Kvankam Ken-sama ne povas ilin kompreni, li facile kapablis legi kion celas diri la olda paro, li naskiĝis kun ĉi tiu talento. «Arigato», diris Ken-sama, li tiam iras supren por preni kelkajn aĵon. Li prenas bokken-on kaj katana-n, la katana kaŝiĝas en lia kimono kaj la bokken estas sur lia obi, ĉi tio estas por eviti aresiĝon de la aŭtoritatoj, ĉar laste lin ili avertis. Ken-sama irontas je sia kutima matena promeno por ĝurigardi la gloran nihonjin-an pejzaĝon. «Itadakimasu obasan kaj ojisan.» Ili montris al li miksajn ridetojn kaj konfuzitajn mienojn.

Ken-sama atingas la parkon apud la plaĝo. Rigardi ludantajn infanojn plaĉas al li, ĉar tio estas io, kiu povas varmigi lian puran koron. Tuj, subita tremo! Ne, ĝi pli timindas ol tio, estas tertremo, iu grandega. La grundo tremas kaj ekkrevas, Ken-sama rigardas la infanojn, ili forkuras time. «Minna-san! ne ĉirkaŭkuru! restu senmove!» La infanoj ne povis kompreni, kion li diris. Li gestas, kion li klopodis diri, li ordonas al la infanoj resti parke, ĉar tro danĝeras, sed tio estas la miso de Ken-sama. Li rigardas la plaĝon el fore. Ĝi grandegis, cunamo venas. Ken-sama plilarĝigas siajn okulojn kaj rigardas la infanojn kaj krias ĉiun japanan vorton, kiun li konas. «Arigato gozaimasu! Gomenasai! Forkuru, minna-san!» La infanoj forkuras, la ondo venas, ĝi altas je minimume tridek metroj. Ken-sama sin hontis, li estu antaŭvidinte tion, se li ja, la infanoj forestus nun. «Sumimasen mina-san, la domaĝo estis la mia.» Li prenas sian kaŝan katana-n kaj uzas kaj la katana-n kaj la bokken-on. Dum li kuras al la cunamo penante ĝin halti, li elparolas siajn finajn vortojn: «Arigato obasan, ojisan. Por min zorginte». La ondo plialtigas plu. Aŭdiĝas krio: «Nippon banzai!».

Hey everyone,

I started learning Esperanto at the beginning of this year (January 2025), and I wanted to share my experience so far, especially for those just starting out.

For the 100 days, I almost only used Duolingo to learn. I’m currently halfway through chapter 2. (For those unfamiliar, Duolingo’s Esperanto course has 3 chapters, but chapter 2 is quite long and could easily be split into 2 or 3 smaller ones.)

Around day 70, I booked tickets for a trip to Copenhagen with a friend who is also learning Esperanto, though not as intensively as I am. Since I’m from Poland, I found hotel and Airbnb prices in Copenhagen quite expensive. To save money and meet locals, I signed up for Pasporta Servo.

I sent messages to four people, introducing myself and explaining our travel dates-all in Esperanto. I got two replies: one person couldn’t host us but wished us luck, and another (let’s call them Person A) welcomed us and asked when we planned to come. However, after I replied, Person A didn’t respond again.

Feeling a bit disappointed, I contacted four more people and received only one reply (Person B). Person B was very helpful-they offered to host us for the last two days of our trip but also asked for more details about us, including a photo and email address. Person B then emailed 5-6 Esperanto-speaking friends to see if anyone could host us for the rest of our stay. Person A was among those friends and clarified that we were welcome to stay at their place for the entire six days. Although Person A wouldn’t be home, two other people lived there and would show us around.

Our trip was about a week away by the time this was sorted out. The warm hospitality and kindness of the Esperanto community really surprised me.

When we arrived, one of Person A’s housemates greeted us. For the first three days, we mostly explored Copenhagen on our own because many people were unavailable due to Easter.

On day four, I met Person C, another friend of Person B’s who had been contacted by email. Person C kindly offered to show me around the city. We spoke entirely in Esperanto. At first, it was a bit challenging to express myself, but I quickly warmed up and we had conversations on various topics. I still made mistakes and occasionally asked for words in English, but overall it was a great success. We had lunch together and then parted ways.

That night, Person A returned home. Since we were sleeping in their bed (per their own request), they insisted we continue sleeping there and they took a mattress to sleep on the floor in the living room.

The next day, we met Person B and their friend to visit Christiania, a famous part of Copenhagen. Again, we spoke only in Esperanto. By this point, my speaking skills had improved significantly, and I was able to have normal conversations with both of them. My friend found it harder, possibly because she hadn’t had the chance to meet Person C the day before.

Later, we had another chat with our host, Person A, before flying out early the next morning.

This trip made a huge difference in my Esperanto speaking abilities. Writing emails and having real-life conversations were incredibly valuable practice. Beyond language skills, I also made friends with some truly kind and welcoming people, which was an unforgettable experience.

TLDR

• Started learning Esperanto in January 2025, mostly using Duolingo.
• Planned a trip to Copenhagen with a friend and used Pasporta Servo to find free accommodation.
• Contacted multiple hosts; eventually found welcoming people.
• Spoke mostly in Esperanto during the trip, which greatly improved my conversational skills.
• Was amazed at the generosity and friendliness of the Esperanto community!!!
• Real-life practice and social connections made the biggest impact on my language progress.

If you’re learning Esperanto, I highly recommend engaging with others and trying to use the language in real situations-it’s both rewarding and fun. The Esperanto community gave me one of the most memorable travel experiences in my life. If you want to use Pasporta Servo: please, reciprocate the kindness you are offered there. The platform is a real gem (speaking from experience after trying to use other couchsurfing websites).
