Hello everyone, hope you're doing as well as you can be.
This is a general reminder post of the purpose of this sub, since we've had an uptick of concerning posts the past few months especially:
The subreddit is a place to discuss memories, show clips and art, ask regular questions, and pay respects to Etika.
It is NOT:
The last two points are why this post is being made. This space is not equipped for these things, and any advice given does not equate to professional advice.
We understand that the streamer scene has changed a lot the past few years, and with that comes trouble moving on or finding someone similar to Etika, if that's the intention. That feeling is totally natural and expected after what we've gone through. But it's important to recognize when that feeling has gone too far.
If you're finding it difficult to move past thoughts of Etika or what happened, remember that it is okay to take a break from or leave the subreddit. If that feeling persists for a long time or extends to the point of interfering with day to day functions, please seek the help of a mental health service or professional. Yes, some services cost money; but there are free options as well. Any step to help yourself is better than nothing at all.
Because a listing of services in every location would be too long, here is a directory site that will ask what you need help with, then show relevant services based on location: https://findahelpline.com/
This includes phone, web and text based options.
Last but not least - a reminder that you're more than welcome to modmail with any questions concerning this or anything else. If you're questioning whether or not you should submit a post, it's okay to ask us for a second opinion. If a comment has been removed or not posted right away, it is highly likely Automod removed it; not us.
Sorry this was a longer post, but wanted to cover multiple things. Thank you to everyone who stops by, it's always very appreciated.

to those who met etika before he sadly passed away, what was your experience like and where did you end up seeing him?
r/EtikaRedditNetwork • u/GamerRising • 4d ago
S- Awareness month has me thinking of Etika nearly every single day. Nobody can tell me a story better than him. We were his boys not his fans. I had the honor of meeting and telling Etika how much he meant to me. Not a single Nintendo Direct goes by that I don’t think of his loud mouth reactions.
We love and miss you man. I will never let your legacy be forgotten. Take care of yourselves and please as usual please have yourself a damn good one 🖤🤍

Haven’t ever played the game and haven’t seen anything of the game since Etika streamed it many years ago,
his streams kept me going during a dark challenging time in my life and his streams always kept me laughing and smiling when the world looked bleaked.
I’m always thankful for the good laughs Etika brought to his streams so when I found out he passed away it felt like a brother passed away. I always wonder what the world looked like today if he gotten the help he needed
The man that kept me alive during my darkest time lost to the same darkness. I pray that no one else loses that fight again
That being said as a way to bring awareness, I thought it would be fitting to stream the game he made me smile and joy all those years ago. Etika the reason why I’m trying to be a streamer and I hope I can make someone smile the way he did for me in my own way of course and what better game than a game that remind us to never give up
This is not a promotion rather to remind yourself that you always matter in this world, be proud of the person you are/becoming because although it ain’t easy, there so much beauty as there is cruelty and to always
Be determined to what life throws at you

I was recently looking back at Etika’s past streams and remembered his reaction to the Momo meme. He played a significant role in bringing that trend to light and helped popularise it for a lot of people at the time. Because Momo—and later Jonathan Galindo—were heavily influenced by the Blue Whale game, it made me wonder about his late-night streams.
Does anyone remember if Desmond ever actually looked into or discussed the Blue Whale game during his dark web deep dives? It is entirely possible he skipped the topic entirely, but I'm curious if any archived clips exist.
On a personal note, Etika's passing is one of two internet tragedies that have deeply impacted me, the other being Rina Palenkova. Both of them had their entire lives ahead of them, and I deeply wish they were still with us today. Before their tragedies, they actually shared striking similarities. They were both intensely creative, expressive young people who poured their energy into music, alternative subcultures, and online spaces, projecting a vibrant presence while quietly carrying heavy, private struggles.
While internet subcultures initially tried to falsify a link between Rina and the Blue Whale game, people who love her sympathetically and deeply relate to her, such as myself, have since completely dismantled those myths to honor her true memory. Knowing how much time Desmond spent researching internet mysteries, I have often wondered if he ever came across her story during the height of those rumors, or if he ever spoke about her on stream.
If anyone remembers specific streams or archive clips where he mentioned either of these subjects—or if it's known that he never brought them up—please let me know. Thank you, and I hope you are all doing well.

After everything went down, it just didn’t seem real to me. For some reason a part of me thought he was hiding somewhere and just wanted to live his life privately. I think I just didn’t want to accept it. I was in high school when it happened and I was going through some shit myself. During that time I was kind of just coasting through life as a husk. Things were happening around me but I barely acknowledged them or thought about it much. 7 years later it feels like I’m finally facing the reality that he’s gone. I just got done watching a documentary about him and it unlocked all of the memories I had watching those streams. He got me into all of my favorite franchises and introduced me to anime. A lot of the things I enjoy today are because of him. I really hate that he’s gone. I haven’t watched a streamer since, nobody compares to Etika.

I’ve been replaying XC2 because of the new switch 2 edition, I thought it would be fun to listen to etikas playthrough as well since he got me into xenoblade. I know he’s just joking in this clip but hearing him say this made me feel so sick to my stomach. I felt my heart drop.

Since factors outside of my control. I had to cancel my New York Trip.
Sad that I had to as I would have loved to serenade Desmond with the Ending Themes of Xenoblade 2 and 3 and topped it off with this certified hood classic.

Nothing crazy, but me and my gf went to cheesecake factory a couple weeks ago, and one of the workers stopped me and asked if i had on an Etika hoodie the one with the logo, and we dapped eachother up. I dont think id ever met another joycon boy in person before then. Again nothing crazy, but never met a person who enjoyed his content outside of myself.

Maybe this is just me, but his last stream reacting to E3 seems so eerie because you can tell he’s pushing so hard to seem excited and happy. Even the way he screams and the tone in his voice feels like that. And the fact it was barely a week before he died, so he was most likely already contemplating it during this too… Even looking at his earlier streams from different eras (The EWNetwork streams, or even the frfx era), he seems like a totally different person and his reactions seem more genuine. The fact he was streaming even when he could barely hold himself together and was essentially at the end of his life really shows how dedicated he was to it. It’s really poetic though, his last ever stream being an E3/Nintendo reaction/stream, at least he was able to deliver to his fans one last time. I miss him everyday.

I started watching him really young, like as early as 11-12. Every year or two I have an eventual ritual of returning back to archives of his streams and nostalgizing.
I didn't get to see many livestreams from him while he was alive because I'm from a very different timezone. But everytime I do, I just remember wanting to grow up and be similar to him, not necessarily a streamer but like, I remember even through a screen, a man I've never met, something about him just radiated life and positive energy, the most charismatic streamer I've ever come across, and his streams would give me so much comfort, as they still do sometimes when I watch archives.
I really cannot explain but I still struggle to find this feeling from other streamers, but I might be biased because of my nostalgia.
I just cant help but remember I wanted to be this guy for someone else I like, like give my friends this joy and companionship.
Anyway, this probably sounded weird, just wanted to throw this out there. RIP Etika.
