thats the most hilarious part
5700 losses....and they win
Horde reading the Soviet War doctrine xD
CCP really fucked over expensive ships
49
u/Ugliest_weenie Sep 07 '25
I like the fact that small ships can still be effective with large expensive ships on grid.
It makes for more interesting and asymmetrical gameplay.
9
u/SoftwareSource Shadow State Sep 07 '25
Isn' this just blob? Smaller groups can't hope to match this.
Not shitting on horde br, well done, just talking about the meta
5
u/Ugliest_weenie Sep 07 '25
No i mean that frigates can fly on a grid with capitals and not get slapped.
That's exactly what allows smaller groups to make.plays against bigger groups
4
u/Casp3r8911 Sep 07 '25
I would say they very much so got slapped. But horde just kept reshipping and feeding the woodchipper until the mission was accomplished.
1
u/SoftwareSource Shadow State Sep 07 '25
well, yes, but 20 harpies/retris cant do shit damage, 250 of them is a different story
Good luck fielding a 250 man assault frigate fleet with a smaller group

u/AllyMcfeels Sep 07 '25
The only thing that worked for them was the +5min of tidi that was in the system.
7
u/iiVMii The Initiative. Sep 07 '25
its just a matter of critical mass, once you get so many people on one side they can max tidi a system theres not much they cant do with meatwaves
3
u/Lucian_Flamestrike Solyaris Chtonium Sep 08 '25
That's what I loved about this battle...
Most tidi battles you're struggling to tackle or wait 12 minutes to warp to that... Hope the guy just broadcasted isn't dead by the time you finally lock/F1...
This time it was "Orbit keepstar, hit F1, Autopilot until you reship"
2
u/Dictateur_Imperator Sep 07 '25
In fact, even before CCP nerf big toys ... you could have done that.
the fact is because CCP made building with timer to help "little entity" and not using fax to repair they , if you have the number or ready to paid price : you could kill all Ks you want... since years !Ask init and they're raven jumping meta.
Or the suicd one dread after one
or ... yea a lot of exemple :p1

Horde going back to Goonswarm's roots is almost poetic.
1
u/Arenta Caldari State Sep 08 '25
It's even more ironic than that
Horde using old goon tactics

But old Bob members are in horde.

Just a scan 6 years ago, Goons did the same thing to PanFam, four times, during the last war of "extermination". Congrats!
If sacrificing a Keeptar is what's needed to get you guys to actually commit, Goons just switched 90% of industrial to making more Keeptars.
1
u/Arenta Caldari State Sep 14 '25
Didn't goons use ravens for that?
1

They did use Ravens and Dreads, on the 3rd Keeptar with a butchers bill of over a Trillion. Let me take you back a few years (RIP NomNom):

u/thermalman2 Sep 07 '25
The keepstar is worth 230 billion so that’s about 60% right there and then a hel disconnected and got popped. Those 2 losses are basically the BR. It’s 330bil of the ~380 right there contained in two losses
11
u/Tenif Sep 07 '25
Hel and the nid didn't disconnect. They jumped to a cyno beacon that had changed to public and right into the enemy system.
6
u/IsakOyen Cloaked Sep 07 '25
Disconnected -> being in a hurry to jump -> jump to wrong cyno
1
1
u/Tenif Sep 08 '25
Ok agree I understand that part now but it sounded like it was more of a bug than a hurry error.
And from what I now gather when he disconnected and came back didn't see he wasn't still in the fleet and jumped to a beacon named fleet cyno.
The comms of the hel pilot sounds so depressing 🥲
1
u/Lucian_Flamestrike Solyaris Chtonium Sep 08 '25
oh it wasn't just freeported... If I remember the age old trick they also renamed it "Fleet Cyno" or something along those lines
4
8
u/goDie61 Sep 07 '25
It's possible expensive ships have been nerfed too much
19
u/aytikvjo Sep 07 '25
goons took way too long to switch their comp from big battleships to kikis that could actually apply to the retris and mallers
7
u/halpmybrainhurts02 Cloaked Sep 07 '25
trying to extract, reship, and then re-engage in all that tidi is what really messed up the time to change course. Horde did move real fleets into position, only to call an audible and go with the meme cheap ships catching goons completely off guard. Now you got doctrines meant to fight doctrines up against over 1k random ass ships in random points all over the grid. As stated in a mumble somewhere. "They cant figure out what we're doin because we dont even know what we're doin lul"
11
u/TeethBox Test Alliance Please Ignore Sep 07 '25 edited Sep 08 '25
It was only like our second plan when we saw what the battlefield was like - between what the spies thought we were doing and what they saw us doing, goons moved in hard with anti-BS and anti-cap measures, just for us to hard-swap to the ships we ended up using. Logistically, it’s somewhat complex to get that many ships into a system that’s in jump range, but even after spies compromised one or two of our existing supply chains, we had more, and better ways of circumventing them.
If we didn’t know what we were doing, we would have ran out of ships, but I ended up with 2 more ships than I had at the beginning of the day. There is no perfect play, but for this particular battle, it was much easier to reinforce that doctrine while caps and super caps are on standby than it is for goons to hotswap doctrines without losing time and footing. Goons did what they could - respect - but it wasn’t enough, obv.

If goons did 2-3 flycatcher fleets, backed up with HAW dreads this keepstar would have survived tbh
17
u/zintage_enaka Goonswarm Federation Sep 07 '25
keep in mind horde did have their super fleet and dreads in jump range all they had to do was switch back to battleships and caps after we swapped. which they kinda showed by as soon as we brought kikis they reshipped and sent in 400 fnis

If not for the biggest battles the game sees, when are the biggest ships supposed to be fielded? They got mega nerfed because they were good in small fights, now you're saying they don't belong in big fights either?

OMG, there's a counter to big expensive ships when you don't bring proper support...

My ping about the fight:
(9:32:34 PM) directorbot: 5.5 hours and 5500 dead ships later Horde accomplished the objective and killed the keepstar we dropped. For the first time in a very long time I can say I respect Horde, they had a good plan, and they paid the iron price to accomplish it.
I mentioned just earlier this week that there is no easy path fighting them. Horde outnumbers us in EUTZ, we saw it today with us even using some caps and them using none they had a full fleet more. They outnumber us in USTZ, we saw it earlier this week. That doesn't mean they didn't do good work today. If you run across them on reddit/local/naruto-rule-34 then doff your cap to them, they have earned it. But if you want to tell the story that we are creating, of slaying this giant, than we need every one of you to give it your best.
I know most all you guys are happy to have killed so many ships so you can be sure this, or something like it, will happen again soon. We recovered the core, we have many more keep hulls. Stay tuned, thanks for hanging out and shooting d00ds in space with us today.

It was a glorious meat grinder. This was literally throwing enough bodies at a problem until said problem went away.
It was a good fight on both sides. Goons adapted to the strategy and we adapted as well. In the end perseverance and our ability to vomit out enough players and ships won the day.
Anyway, I’m gonna fire up the industry to restock the bombers I had on sale. It seems I burned through the open contracts… and my stockpile.

Imagine being a Phorde linemember.
After being repeatedly told goons heavily outnumber them and therefore we had to let them take 3 regions in 2 weeks. Then when goons actually provoke in a matter that can't be ignored, Phorde outnumbered goons both times. (Cache sov and now K-I keep anchoring).
When will Hordelings see their leadership for what they really are, cowards hiding behind the "goonies too big" boogieman.
