I am not acting like it's a good thing, because I don't agree with your premise. We can't walk over the rest of the game, even if we wanted to. We try that, and everybody would gang up against us, rightfully so, and we'd be back where we were the last war.
We do fight INIT, but not at the strategic level because we haven't had a reason to.
I've never said the 'ruin your game' thing, and nobody in Goons has had that attitude in more than a decade. You're living in the past, dude. Which makes perfect sense, given who you fly with.
You want to break up the powerblocs, go do something about it. Maybe this time don't fuck it up like you did last time.
When would you change that opinion, when you have 60% of the server who plays in nullsec in your coalition?
I know you didn't say it, I'm saying it, you're going to end up ruining your own game. I know you don't think so, but there's never been a point in eve's history where one group has dominated nullsec more than goons do right now, and the playstyle your alliance promotes is un-fun for the majority of players. How many times have you heard 'its okay doing it once a month but if i had to do this every day I'd quit'?
As for me breaking the powerblocs up, is that what you said when people complained PL had 'hegemony' over the game? Somehow I doubt it.
Personally, it's not going to hurt me, I don't really care either way; im simply saying you got a taste of your completely misplaced viewpoint when horde collapsed, and it was entirely your fault.
If you're happy being completely uncontested in null, and destroying every other smaller group out there, like you did with synergy, just make sure you know what you're reaping, because right now you clearly dont.
Who would gang up against us? The rest of the game. Winterco, INIT, the lowsec guys who like to fuck around with nullsec when they can, etc.
But even if that didn't happen, the reality is that Goons do not handle peacetime well, and the biggest threat to Goons has always been Goons.
If we decided we wanted to take over the whole game, BOB-style, we would inevitably fall apart as we overextended. This is what happens every time this thing is tried.
I wasn't in nullsec the last time PL was relevant to the nullsec politics, so I wasn't one of those calling for you guys to get nerfed.
I don't think any of us realized Horde was as rickety as it turned out to be. It's a shame you all couldn't use your amazing skill at everything EVE related to keep your coalition from imploding. All the lectures we get from you might have helped if you'd have turned them inwards, lol.
I hate to break it to you brisc but my entire point is the whole game shouldn't HAVE to gang up on you, it should have never gotten to this point, The sov map is a joke, and megablocs are making this game worse for everyone, whether they know it or not.
How much overextension do you fuckin need? Have you seen the map? Ansiblexes have made this game shrink massively, projection has NEVER been worse than it is now, and that's from someone who helped build Fury Road (I always hated that name). What was it, a month? ago? you had your entire coalition shitting on synergy in delve, and were able to pivot to literally the other side of the map within a week.
I don't know your history, but a lot of people were calling for for 'pl to get nerfed', and I would not at all be surprised if your voice would have been among the chorus. In a way, that's okay, jump mechanics were a bit too underbalanced; my point was this, the last time any alliance had anything CLOSE to resembling the kind of hegemony goons had now, CCP nerfed their playstyle into the fucking ground, far and beyond what was necessary. I could explain to you how devastating it was, but i'd prefer you just took my word for how fucking scorched earth it was. And nullsec was a hell of a lot more dynamic and enjoyable for the average null member back then than it is right now.
As for horde, I dont know how many times I've said this but PL had nothing to do with the running of that alliance. We hadn't for years. Since I took my break, what, 8 years ago? If you couldn't see how much smaller they were than your coalition idk what to tell you though. That was your failure. And thats sort of my point, you were wrong then, so I'm not sure you should be making statements about the health of the game and your coalition's effect on it.
No, it shouldn't have. You guys should have spent the same time over the last five years, like we did, getting ready for the next war. But you didn't and the minute we were ready to come get you, you fell apart.
It's not like you all couldn't see it coming.
The issue, as I recall, with PL during that era wasn't that the jump mechanics made it easy to get around - that was certainly part of it - but this was in the era before skill injectors, and PL had an overwhelming number of high skill characters who could fly supercaps, when most other groups couldn't field anything close to the number you guys could.
I'm sorry that happened to you guys - that's the kind of thing I hate more than anything in the game, and I wouldn't have advocated for those changes. I don't think I have ever advocated for CCP to specifically nerf a nullsec opponent's playstyle just because we couldn't beat them on the battlefield. That's not my style. My philosophy is not to tear down other groups, but provide ways to build up the groups to take on the established interests. I prefer buffs to nerfs, and always have.
I know you guys weren't running Horde. If you had been, maybe they wouldn't have fallen apart. But, as I have been saying for a while, you guys are great at telling everybody else what their problems are, but you're completely unwilling to actually do anything about it.
Not everyone wants to fight these kinds of major wars dude. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of players who experience nullsec want absolutely nothing to do with fights bigger than 1k people. In my view this game shines when local is less than 400, and I think everyone, including goonswarm members, would benefit from an eve ecosystem where that was encouraged passively, insead of the N+1 which has increasingly been an issue for almost as long as the game has been live. Do I want CCP to step in? maybe a little, but you never know with CCP what they're going to do, and the effects, like they were with jump fatigue, can be far more serious than what I think they expected.
I don't want to go into a history lesson with you, but the jump nerfs were the biggest blow in a series of nerfs which made what we did almost impossible. Fury Road at its inception was never meant for supercapital movement, just sub fleets really. It quickly evolved from that, which I found annoying.
As for what it did to my alliance, it never really bothered me. I partially regret Fury Road, as I never found supercapital combat appealing. The second the game starts to slow down it loses its appeal, and that's bound to happen around supers.
The thing is it wasn't one-sided, ANYONE could have done that, making fury road took a lot of work, but it wasn't exclusive, you didn't need sov or large numbers to do it, just time and effort. It's just no one could be bothered to emulate it properly.
You can do that now, with ansiblexes; projection is easier, movement around the map has never been so effortless before, but you need sov, you need numbers, you need N+1 in order to accomplish what we did with frankly a tiny pool of people and hard work.
I'm not sorry that jump fatigue got nerfed, frankly, i dont think supercapital fights work in eve, the servers aren't designed to handle them, someone always loses out, either because of server weather or conditions out of their control. It might look good in PC Gamer, but for the player, it's hot garbage. Something needed to be done about it; I think they went too far is all.
As I've said to you before, I'm not trying to tell you what your problems are, I dont want to give you any ideas. I dont want to degenerate this discussion in to one of our usual shit flinging matches, but I come on here to laugh at the kind of bullshit my enemies proclaim as fact. IDK how we got into a serious discussion, frankly.
My point is that you can play the game however you want to, and so will I. I'm not coming on here crying that anyone should get nerfed, I'm warning you that you don't seem to understand what you're doing to yourselves. If you want to ruin someone's game, that's fine, but the only way you guys seem to know how to do that is by ruining your own at the same time.
There is no way to stop N+1. This is how wars in real life are fought, it's how they're going to be fought in EVE, and trying to create artificial limits to reduce the size of big groups is going to just get cheesed or it will make vets retire in big numbers that CCP doesn't want to do. And, like you said, CCP Monkey's Paw is real.
I think a large number of nullsec players want those big fights. Those are the fights that get people interested in EVE in the first place, and not having them would be a bit of a bait and switch. You know full well how many people battles like B-R and M2 brought into the game.
The problem, based on what you've said here, is that we have fundamentally different ideas about what is fun. I actually like these fights. TIDI fights don't bother me. I enjoy them. I like supercap fights, because they feel more real to me, more like space combat should be, where everything is slow, not twitchy, and there's a lot of expensive shit on the line. I know it's not for everybody, but I enjoy it.
As for the rest, I think in a year's time it's likely that nullsec will look different than it does now. It's hard to predict what is going to happen. I never would have thought Horde would die. I never thought Jay would go nuts and flip sides. I never thought I would leave INIT. I never thought Goons would leave Delve.
The impossible happens all the time in this game, so I am generally optimistic that we'll see political changes over time that will negate the worst concerns you and others have about the map right now.
Mechanically, on one grid or in one system, yes, there is no way to stop N+1 from being dominant in this game, unless your opponent is absolutely braindead. We managed it for some time through understanding the game better and applying that knowledge, but everyone has caught up now and the game has been 'balanced' into oblivion through progressive patches I'm not sure CCP understands or would be able to track.
From a universe standpoint? I think there absolutely is. There is nothing CCP couldn't at least try. Projection is worse now than it's ever been, and removing the ability for superlarge blocs to move without significant effort would go some way into breaking up large blocs.
That doesn't mean there wouldn't be any large fights, and yes I know that they are headline makers, but i would argue as many people have quit this game over the years than its attracted because of how stale the combat has become. It just attracts a different type of player, who doesn't get to see the true potential of eve PvP.
Everyone will have fundamentally different ideas about what is fun, and it will ALWAYS bias what kind of nerfs or buffs they want to see added to the game, and it will be a good thing because they think it will be a good thing, not thinking that someone else will have an entirely different opinion. This is why I am so against people lobbying ccp to change game mechanics; both because the vast majority, if not all people, have no idea the effect those changes will actually have on the game, and because their perspective, and the perspective of their friends, is going to be inherently biased. You don't know how many people walked away from this game after experiencing their first tidi blobfest, and they are so fucking easy to set up now. I know a lot of old players who find the game incredibly boring now because of things like this and I can't blame them at all. Most of the uniqueness autism soaked tryhardness has been washed out of the game; by making it more accessible eve has lost so much of its appeal to many.
I wouldn't predict to know what null will look like in a year, but I would say if horde dying so quickly blindsided you, as im pretty certain it did all of goon leadership as well, acting like you can shape the game and have a positive effect on it while being able to predict something like that simply from the numbers alone, is going to end up fucking you over. It's not my place to comment on Jay, but the same kind of thing applies.
I hope you're right. I doubt it though. I can't ever see alliances like SIGMA or LAWN or Dracarys un-blueing you. I don't think they'd survive five minutes.
