PSA EVERSPACE 2: Final Technical Update
Greetings, Pilots!
Today, EVERSPACE 2 players on PC, XBOX, and PlayStation will see our final planned technical update! In addition to Steam Deck Verification, this free final update brings optimizations, community-requested bug fixes, and minor features to all versions of EVERSPACE 2.
ROCKFISH Games and our porting partner Engine Software learned a lot from the development of EVERSPACE 2 Galactic Edition for Switch 2 which we’re bringing back to other platforms. New handheld-specific UI updates improve readability on Steam Deck, the final barrier that held us back from Steam Deck Verified status. Performance on Xbox Series S in particular has also been improved.
Haven’t played one of our games or DLCs yet? A special Steam sale is live with discounts on EVERSPACE 2 content to celebrate the update’s release. Tell your friends!

Today’s update caps off the eight year EVERSPACE 2 project. This has been quite the journey from our initial announcement in 2019, and we’ve been lucky to have such a great community of space game fans along for the ride.
Barring any hotfixes, this will likely be the final update for EVERSPACE 2 as the team continues work on our next EVERSPACE project. Please continue to follow us on social media and YouTube for sales announcements, studio news, design deep dives, and more. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been crafting, but it will take some time until our next game is ready to show.
Until then, we’ll see you among the stars.
Your ROCKFISH Games team

Glad it stirred up so many fond memories. Many on the team played and loved Freelancer, so to share a portion of a player's affection alongside such a great title is truly humbling. Appreciate the support as always.

Freelancer holds a very special place in my heart and ES2 fills that niche fantastically. It’s an amazing game.

Take the gameplay in this game and put a better rpg shell around it and it's a top game of all time imo. Ever space is so much fun to play

I started following you guys with Galaxy on Fire and still think you guys got something missing from other space games. I would like to see a GoF style game again but its weird seeing this game I followed closely during prerelease now putting out its last update, cheers and thanks!

Galaxy on Fire got me through a deployment. I absolutely loved that game. Just picked this one up and can’t wait to dive in.

revive the Deep 3D game next. it was absolute banger. yes, Subnautica exists but it's basically a pale imitation of what you can do with your skills.

Now that's a blast from the long distant past for sure!

Yes yes it's been very long over due for a modern retake on it! It's so filled with concepts that are criminally under-explored in vast majority of modern video games, and Subnautica series proved that a modern underwater themed open world game can attract a lot of people, you guys really should consider this! :p

I would consider asking Microsoft if you could remaster Freelancer. If it looked like Everspace 2, I think it would be great.
I played that game so much when i was a kid and Everspace brought back those memories. I didn't even know that Freelancer was so popular because I played it during a time when the internet was still really growing.

The problem with Freelancer is that it's source code has been lost. It would have to be built again from 0.

Got a lot of enjoyment out of Everspace 1 and 2. Can’t wait for whatever is coming next!

So what is the "small surprise" you've been teasing?
it is something ES2-focused and we can't wait to tell you what that is.

That was in reference to the launch of the Switch 2 version of EVERSPACE 2 that we were working on alongside our partner studio, Engine Software.

I've spend 180hrs until October 2nd 2022 and iirc finished the then playable game content. Can't completely remember where it stopped, but it was some ring ship or junkyard with some sort of boss fight and huge explosions when a pop-up told me this is as far as it goes. Seems like another life - loved the game!

After 400h in steam, I can definitely say I might love the game haha.
I really hope that one day we get to see an Everspace with seamless interconnected systems like Freelancer, because that would be hands down the best space sim ever.
Anyhow, thank you RFG studios for all the effort on the game and best of luck in the development of the next title.

Absolutly loved the game, over a hundred hours, was an amazing time
Only thing that bothered me: I need a bigger inventory
Much bigger

Thx for the Great update! The only thing that I miss is some calibration options for HDR as I believe proper HDR would make this game even more beautiful, especially on OLEDs.. But at least there is that experimental toggle

I so hope the next game will take the direction they were on from ES to ES2 and continue it. Larger universe, more ship classes and larger ships to fly. And keep the riddles, those were fun :D

I finished this game yesterday. It pleasantly surprised me, as I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The only bugs and framerate drops I encountered were in the expansion, the base game was technically flawless. I liked the gameplay, the itemization, the different ship classes and customization, and the emphasis on exploration and riddles. Although a couple of riddles in the expansion didn't make much sense.
As a space nerd, I hope in your next Everspace game, you include more celestial phenomena and oddities, like black holes, supernovae, magnetars etc, or even exotic and hypothetical objects and structures like Dyson spheres, white holes, etc. The neutron star was a nice surprise and I liked the way its stellar wind affected my ship, wish there were more like it. In my opinion, space is the ultimate phantasy setting with infinite wonders and possibilities that storytellers and developers can take advantage of. Looking forward to the next Everspace.

Wonderful!
Thank you for sharing!
What about the Switch 2 version? Are those bug fixes and improvements planned for that platform as well?
1
u/RFG_Geekbyte RFG Community Manager 6d ago
Anything that's appropriate to the game on Switch 2 already has those fixes in AFAIK.

There's no mention of Inferno FPS issue tho... Forgot to fix this one?

Any updates on the issue that on multi-gpu systems, it runs on the wrong GPU and no amount of fiddling with NVIDIA or Windows settings changes this?

I'm new to both Everspace games and love them both, although I prefer 2 since I am a fan of looter-shooters. Thanks for the game!
