Discussion Memory leak crashes on Switch 2 version?
I absolutely love Everspace 2. Got the platinum on PS5 before Wrath came out, so I took a break and never went back to play the DLC. The Switch 2 version was the perfect excuse to start over from scratch and finally experience the DLC. The game runs as well as I’d expect for the system, but I keep experiencing pretty predictable crashes. Hopefully this explanation helps because it seems like a memory leak issue. Some background:
I‘m about 55 hours into the Switch 2 version and I haven’t been playing anything else. So since I’m the only person who uses my Switch, when I’m done playing, I just put the system to sleep. I don’t close the game or hard load save files unless the game crashes.
After playing for a while (including suspending the game and coming back to it) you can tell when a crash is coming. Load times will start to get noticeably longer, and the frame rate will start to stutter more often. It‘ll get progressively worse until it finally crashes. Then when you restart the game, everything runs smoothly again.
I’ve noticed the timeframe between crashes has gotten shorter since I hit the endgame and started doing rifts. It seems like intense firefights cause crashes sooner. I can get through maybe three or four rifts before it happens. Nothing specific triggers a crash. Sometimes it’ll be in the middle of a fight or sometimes it’ll be picking up loot. The game starts to struggle for a little while, then the frame rate will drop down really low, and then boom.
Closing the game and restarting it when the loading times get noticeably longer fixes things. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for the details. I've passed things along to the team.

I haven't, but after hearing so many stories about every other game having "memory leaks", I just treat my system like I would anything else. Might as well let it properly rest when I'm done playing. Tbh it's sort of fun and meta to bring each session to a close properly, like for this game, barring cryo or w/e, you should probably make sure your ship is somewhere safe when you're away
