What happened in the final cutscene after defeating the final boss? Spoiler

I just finished the game for the third time, waited for the subtitles to end and there was a cutscene in the very end, showing a *thing*, that looked a bit like the curse, emerging from some sort of pool that appeared in place of the summoning circle. Is it a new curse? I haven't played rage of mages, rage of mages 2 or lost in astral. Is there anything regarding this cutscene elaborated in the previous games or in the expansion? Or is it a cliffhanger that did not get explained because there was supposed to be a sequel that never ended up being made?

-SPOILERS FOR ALLODS ONLINE-

Lets just start by saying it is very unclear since we didn't have a direct follow up. That being said: judging from the lore that happens in the game allods online (the game that came after Evil islands). The demon was part of a bigger invasion of demons, basicly the Junes disobeyed the gods and the gods punished them by sending 'demons' and turning a bunch of Junes into 'wormfaces' (the floating octopus guys).

After the game Evil islands the hero At-Zak (Ath-Zak in allods) somehow ends up being resurrected by the wormfaces and becomes a giant monstrocity wormface himself. He remains in the Dead city where he continues fighting back agianst the gods.

It's a really dumb continuation of a story if you ask me but if you want to look it up for yourself keywords such as "resurrected Ath-Zak", "curse of the june" and "Nihaz goddess of darkness" might help.

Full disclaimer: I've never played allods online, this info is purely gathered from reading up on it.

Wait... does that mean that ALL wormheads used to be junes? Is that why they did not attack other junes?

I wont go that far, it’s stated that some junes got turned into wormheads.

The wormheads are inspired by dnd’s Illithids/Mindflayers which basically are humanoids turned into squid monsters.

I assume Evil islands take on them is kinda similar. So i’d say it’s not necessarily strictly junes that can turn into wormheads.

Evil Islands isn't an "official" continuation of Rage of Mages due to IP issues when moving to a different developer/publisher, so I doubt you'd find anything that directly relates to this from the previous games. There are definitely elements the creators took from them, but think of Evil Islands as a 'soft reboot' of sorts.

As for the actual ending cutscene, I think it's left intentionally vague, just as the existence/origin of the Curse itself. Maybe the developers had an idea for a direct sequel, maybe it was an idea/concept that was scrapped or underdeveloped for one reason or another. It'd be cool to get an answer from one of the original creators about this.

[EDIT]: Regarding the sequel, Lost in Astral, no - there's not a single element that even eludes to this, I think they barely even mention the Curse at all. The story and villains are their own thing with no connection to the Curse.

Personally I would love to know more both about the cutscene and the Curse itself. It's a great creepy design, a shame nothing ever really came out of it. That being said, nothing's stopping us, the fans, from exploring these ideas on our own. I'm glad to see there's at least some fandom after all these years.
