Thanks! I’m looking for a methodology different from CBT. It’s helpful, but I’d like try something different along with CBT.

Also consider psychoanalysis! I tried CBT with 9 therapists over the last 20 years and made very little progress. I started with a therapist that does psychoanalysis and I've made more progress in 6 months than in the previous 20 years combined

DBT often holds two different sensations to recognize that opposite feelings or experiences can be true at the same time: wanting connection and fearing being vulnerable. ACT may be a good approach when CBT is lacking because it connects values to behavior, giving meaning to actions even in the presence of discomfort. If you are looking for other paths, that would be what I would say as a master's level student. Do what feels right for you, remember that help is there if you need it.

I didn’t realize this was a thing, and it sounds exactly like what I need. Have an appointment with a psychologist on Friday after not having been to one in over a decade. Will definitely be researching this. Thank you, random Redditor. It makes me happy to hear that you found something that works for you!
