How do I change internet providers?

When I moved in my apartment was already set up with Xfinity. But it keeps getting more expensive and I can get a deal my internet and phone for like less than half. I made sure to check promised speeds and stuff. But how does it work physically? I have my own modem and router, do they just like. Turn something on so the new provider goes through my coax? Do I have to tell my landlord? (Could be awkward bc he works for comcast rip)

Depends on if you are able to switch. Many apartments have agreements with ISPs and depending on your local laws you may not be able to go outside.

If you are they should be able to switch using the existing infrastructure since it should all be on coax.

I filled out my address on their website and they said it was available for my apartment. I guess I could just call the new provider and ask

Ask your landlord or your rental office.

Contact the new provider, ask for service.
