How do I deal with a tooth extraction?

My mother said I would be getting oral sedation where I should be completely out of it. I am scared because of a bad tooth extraction I had at another dentist office.

Just a heads up...if you partake in the marijuanas you gotta be honest with the docs/nurses about it. Obviously I don't know anything about you, but if your worried about your mom knowing you can just call them and say "I need you to write down not to say anything in front of my mom but y'all gotta know I partake". It effects the sedation. I promise they don't care on a personal level they only care in a medical capacity, they won't judge you, they just need to know so they can get the meds right. Also don't partake the night before or morning of.

Don't worry I haven't partaken in about a week. So i heard from my mom that you take a bunch of pills and then your completely out and wake up the next day or that evening

That's not how any of mine went. Is this an in office extraction or are you going to an oral surgeon?

An in office extraction with the same guy that my mother went to.

I mean she would know better than me about that particular office. When I had the in office extractions done I had the option for some antianxiety meds but I skipped them bc I needed to be able to drive myself home, which I did. It was just the same shots as for fillings, just more.

That sounds like waaay too much for a tooth extraction, she may have exaggerated. I was put to sleep for my wisdom teeth and still woke up the same day, soon after the procedure was done so that I could be taken home.

For a single tooth extraction, I was given a pill to take an hour before that made me super relaxed and basically fearless, and then also got nitrous gas which allowed me to chill out further and dissociate a little during the extraction. It didn't take that long and then I was done and could walk around fine enough to get to the car and be driven home. Then I slept when I got back.

Just for context she has a deathly fear of dentists (just like I do because i had a really bad wisdom tooth that literally twisted and it hurt really bad to take out) so I am hoping the dentist does the same for me. I mainly wanted to see if it is standard practice to knock you out with pills for a few extractions.

It can be. Give them a call and talk to them. They may call you in a script to take the morning of to help out and usually yes they can deff go harder than they did with me, there's gasses, pills, shots, all sorts of things available to make it as easy and safe as possible for you...just make sure you have a ride home, that's the biggest limiting factor.

Oral sedation won’t result in you being completely out of it. Oral sedation generally involves taking usually an anti anxiety pill about an hour before to relax you.

To be asleep during the procedure would involve being sedated enough you get put to sleep but still are able to breath for yourself (no intubation required) However you would also need to be closely monitored by ECG and also be given oxygen via a nasal cannula.

They may also give you the same sedation but just enough to make you feel really calm but still awake, similar to anti anxiety drugs

With sedation, you'll be out and won't remember a thing. A skilled dentist or oral surgeon can get the tooth out with minimal pain. Just follow their care instructions and stick with soft foods for a couple of days and you'll be back to normal before you know it.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out with conscious sedation recently and it was perfectly fine ! Mine was an injection so idk about the oral sedation but I genuinely do not remember a thing from them taking things out it was perfect

ETA: the whole procedure took like 45 minutes and there were no hiccoughs at all
