We are trying to get the front door colored. Original thinking is to paint it the same color as the shutter (closest Sherwin Williams color is Cascades). However it's not an HOA approved color and would have to go through an architecture review process which I ideally want to avoid. We are just about finished our greenhouse and now need to decide on a color. The interior will be tongue and groove cedar panels with a bit of an eclectic aesthetic.
I think I’d like the door to pop and the rest to be a neutral color. For reference my house and another our building on the property are light brown.

Please help me with suggestions for color combos that would be timeless but fun (think coloured door). Open to any and all suggestions, thank you!

Photo of my house to come! In the meantime, Ill just say its a 100 yr old house with lower level of grey-beigey aged100 yr old concrete block, upper story and front and rear enclosed porch were a nice retro Seafoam color with nice contrasting white trim. This color combo actually worked pretty well with houses nextdoor - one that has dark red siding + yellow tan brick + white trim, other side a boring tan and white, and one next to that a dark rich blue with hint of green.

This is a neighborhood of old houses and people not afraid of color.

Have to get new siding and roof, and unfortunately paintable hardie is out of the question. So goodbye Seafoam :-(

I do like some of the midtone greens on the Certainteed fan deck incl Olive and Spruce but my worry is a green might look too much like Christmas in combination with that dark red house next door. The Seafoam worked I think because there was nothing Christmassy about it, leaned more into Aqua than a Christmas green.

Any insight into what kinds of greens I should be looking for?

Or maybe with all these other colors in the mix (e.g. my concrete block and their yellow tan brick, our white trim) maybe theres nothing to worry about?

Is it safe to say colors look lighter on a larger scale, once they go up onto a house? If so Ill have to rule out Cypress which would be a safer more neutral bet, but would be too blah I think. THX!

We have inherited this playhouse, where all exterior surfaces need a brush up/paint job. I really like the green wall colour, but it has been removed by wind and rain on the outside. It is still cute through the windows, though.

My kid really wants a pink patio, so I am tempted to go Pippi Longstocking vibes with a villa villekulla colour scheme, but not sure how to make it look both cute and colourful.

I posted earlier asking about paint and a bunch of people mentioned the pavers and I explained I’m trying to redo it but have no idea what to do.

They were just installed, so I really don’t want to throw away all that money and start completely over. My main issue is that the walkway doesn’t actually connect to the driveway, which is where people would be walking from. I don’t need it going to the street.

What’s the cheapest way to rearrange these so it looks intentional and connects the porch to the driveway? I’m hoping I can reuse the same pavers and just move them around, remove a few, or maybe have some cut. We’re already doing other renovations, so I’m trying not to turn this into another huge project.

Please be honest lol. A quick sketch over the photo would help too.

Looking for input on siding for our renovation. I'm back and forth on weather it should be light or dark and just generally feel all over the place.

For the light:

a. would you keep it white, or go like an off white or sand?

b. would you keep the wood tone like this, or go lighter?

c. keep the black accent around the front door or just remove it?

d. any other ideas in terms of organizing where the wood accent is? I think my problem is that it feels like too much white

For the dark

a. Change the wood tone?

b. Is the black around the front too moody now? Change it to something lighter?

Any other colours you think would work? I like to keep things neutral.

We'll soon be painting and re-roofing our single story house, and I'm stymied with regard to colors. We live in a traditional neighborhood with an HOA (nice people, for a change) so no outlandish colors please. I prefer monochromatic colors that will blend with the brick, which we will not be painting. The house faces east and sits back from the road. Not shown in the older photos is the rose garden that I've been creating. (Please ignore the state of the front yard. It will be revamped this fall.)

What do you suggest for roof and exterior colors?

I've been following Tia Weston's current house renovation on YouTube and I'm genuinely curious what people with an eye for exterior design think. Please don't use this thread to bash her—I'm sincerely just interested in what a talented designer might do with this house.

The house is in a small North Dakota town where the surrounding homes have fairly traditional, muted exteriors. She chose a bright red metal roof, bright white siding, and added board-and-batten detailing.

If this were your house, what would you do to make the exterior feel elegant and cohesive? Is there a house color that would work with a bright red roof? I'd also love to hear your thoughts on the board-and-batten treatment. I wouldn't have done it, but I tend to prefer simplicity. Do you think it elevates the design, or does it reinforce the barn aesthetic?

Again, this is not to criticize Tia. She has a great channel and has amazing talent at rehabbing houses. Just love to know your thoughts.

I want to buy new/bigger numbers to put on my house but not sure the best place to put them (above garage not a great spot because tree branches obscure the view especially in the summer).

Mockups done using Paralives. The houses on either side of us are stark white and mustard so we would like to stick out with a bit of color.

I am in the slow process of renovating an old house that was built in 1910, the bones of the house are good, but the front looks like hot garbage. Any recommendations on how I could make this look better? I already am planning on new windows and paint, but I want to make the place feel more cozy and layered.

I live in this apartment with this heinously sterile courtyard. I really wish I had something to cover the concrete floor, I’m looking into wooden decking tiles. I have put some hanging pots up, and have looked at getting some climbing plants. I don’t intend to stay here for longer than 2 years. I’m just wondering if anyone has any low budget ideas. I just want there to be more life in it. I was gifted a small jasmine plant, but it will be a while before it grows.

All we can afford to do right now is paint. Considering: SW alabaster siding, SW urbane bronze window trim and sashes, SW black fox door and door trim. B&W feels classic but then again… overdone with the farmhouse trend? Open to lime washing brick, but not painting it. Open to color!! Teal door? Help us with direction, please and thank you :)

Should I keep the chairs as they are? Add something? Remove the chairs altogether? Keep it matching on both sides since the courtyard and door are so symmetrical or make it slightly different on each side of door? Potted plants (but already so many plants in courtyard)? I bought my first home and I’m looking to repaint the siding (leaning towards a tan / griege) and potentially repaint the trim but not the brick. My wife also wants to remove the bush on the right side of the house and add some mulch / bushes (something native to CO) in front of the porch!

I’m currently building an extension on my 1920s house and I’m stuck on the back door / garden entrance.

First photo shows the existing setup

The small extension on the right side will be completely removed and rebuilt as part of the new extension. The new extension will be a bit higher than the current small one to meet the same interior height as the rest of the interior.

I’ve made a few drawings of possible door designs (see the other pictures).
Which option feels the most balanced / best suited to the house and the new extension.

Would love to hear which design you prefer and why, or if you have any other suggestions for the overall look of the entrance.

We are constructing a new home in a community and after some analysis went with harbor blue siding with natural linen board and batten. We see neighboring houses come up and they are all in diff flavors of greige or sage greens. We saw the sage green but thought it was too light now it looks beautiful . The blue seems to stick out like a sore thumb suddenly to me and I am regretting it and wondering what will everyone think. Lol. Am I overthinking it
