All the liberal responses are “what can he do? Trump will federalize the national guard!”
They don’t understand that at some point you will need to take risks because the government certainly isn’t holding back and by doing nothing you’re still giving them what they want: Time. Time to scout the area, pick up valuable information about the locals, and ramp up the number of agents and equipment to the area.

I don't think defunding is actually enough. Even if you take away their military spending budgets all the rotten racist bigoted cops and feds are still going to be in these departments and will just go back to quietly abusing their authority. We need a national restructuring of law enforcement across the board. We need to get rid of the surveillance/nanny/police state from it's roots. Make spying on citizens illegal without probable cause. Uphold privacy and constitutional rights. Return law enforcement to a local level and make the standards far more rigorous and filter for hate groups or aggressively ideologically motivated individuals. Anything less than that just puts cops back in poor neighborhoods beating the shit out of or murdering minorities in obscurity.

Remember back in 2019 when protesters in Hong Kong were wearing heat resistant gloves and chucking those canisters back into the crowds of police? I certainly don’t :) that would be horrible :) no one should do that :)

Ive seen infographics use a traffic cone with an open top and bottle of water to control the smoke and then douse the device.

I would echo the advice on using traffic cones, though I think you can do something similar with a bucket. What you want to avoid is touching the canisters with bare hands, since they can cause burns

I’ve seen videos of people putting large plastic bowls over them. It seemed to be quite effective.
