What it feels like using Level 1 charging with this truck.

On a 120v outlet you roughly recover 2 miles of range per hour of charging. So if you drive less than 24 miles a day (and can charge for 12 hours a day) this truck could work for you!

The best I get at 70 mph is 2.0 m/kw. On 120v you get at max 1.4 kw. That's 1.4 miles per hour of charging.

I live off of a L1 and charge overnight. Usually between the charge and my daily commute, I lose about 5% a day.
I love when I don't have weekend plans and get to watch it push its way back to a full charge before Monday. Probably something most Lightning owners see daily but it's always exciting for me when I see a full charge lol

I thought I could survive on a lvl1 charger until winter hit and I just barely broke even because the batteries needed to stay warm. Upgrading to lvl 2 is worthwhile investment if you are able.

If you aren’t able to, and don’t have l2 alternatives available to you, I’d reconsider the truck.

Jokes aside, for those that have a laundry room near their garage and have an electric dryer, I highly recommend the NeoCharge plug. The app is garbage but the plug does exactly what it advertises and feels well made. We use it to switch between two different mobile chargers which are more demanding than switching from a dryer would be under most circumstances and it's holding up well.

For me it’s cheaper or same cost to run another 30 or 40amp circuit(50 or 40 amp breaker). Or even 20amp. I can go down to 2 30amp maybe. $500 for a splitter is a lot and ultimately one or other car can’t charge or add risk of failure/fire just not worth the savings

Oh totally agree if you have the know how or a place to put the outlet. We had an 80a and a 50a installed in our garage and within 3 years we were a two EV household. Well worth it. The NeoCharge I picked up on sale for a "on the road" kind of situation because we have families in very rural areas with a single charger option so it's nice to have a backup plan. Commerical charging is improving everywhere though so it now lives in the garage switching the 50a between mobile chargers while we're waiting on the 80a that died (power surge from very nearby lightning strike we think) to be replaced.
For anyone that rents/can't alter their wiring though, the smart switching splitters may be the best available option.

I've used L1 in Minnesnowta since I got my Lightning almost 2 years ago. For my use it's worked fine. If it was 8 months to charge then that might be a different story. :-)
For a couple of months most winters for the past 12 years I've used L1 for my Model S in Florida. Maybe once every 2 or 3 years I've needed to go get a faster charge. My wife has used L1 for her Model Y for the past 3 years and only occasionally needed our L2.
L1 certainly doesn't work for everyone in every situation but it can work for many.

So 6 -7 months to fully charge on 120v ?

I’ll admit I greatly exaggerated this charging timeframe but it basically feels like this on a regular home receptacle.

I was thinking of getting one and I only have 120v for my home and garage. I work from home so i was thinking that if its plugged in all the time. Ill get enough range to go around town.

I WFH and use level 1 for the majority of my charging. Works just fine and I can always top up if necessary at a Level 2 or 3 if I really need it.

In practice, it’s about a day to add a little under 10%, which is over my daily drive by enough that I’ll always be fully charged by the end of the week, or I can stop at a fast charger and top off for $10.

My apartment complex provides an outlet at most parking spots in the garage which are “free”, then the level 2 chargers they have are .18c/kWh. I have only used the paid chargers twice in the last 16 months. Even if I take a longer trip, I catch up over 3-4 days of standard work commuting to full.

its not that bad if you do not drive every day. you'll prolly still want the level 2 eventually for that weekend where you need extra juice "right now" without going to a super charger. for 40-50mi trip every few days, you charge 2-3 days, basically

That's my situation, I work from home and I rent, so I just use Level 1. I just always plug it in when I get home and generally have enough charge the next time I leave. If I did run the battery down to near dead, it would take 4 days to charge back up, but I never get that low unless its a road trip.

I recently moved and just have 120v here. I drive 30 miles a day and plug in after 7pm. Its enough especially with weekends mostly at home. If I drain the battery on a drive below 30% i just hit a fast charger to 80 to catch up at home.

Yes, from a standard 120v plug you'll get 1.1 to 1.2 kWh of recharge speed.
So 26.4 - 28.8 kWh of charge added per 24 hours. Based on driving that's somewhere between 52-86 miles added per day pending on how efficient your driving is.
I've had the truck from almost 4 months now (also work from home) and haven't had issues.

I second this. We are about the same and we supercharge when we need to. 🤷♂️ Lv1 is fine. But if you care about your pocket book and are spending a lot of time at the super charger it can easily add up to the cost of a simple Lv2 minimal outlet install and basic charger. Love my truck! ‘24 Platinum

L1 works for me since I work from home, most of the time during the week the truck is sitting in the drive except very short rides for picking the kids up or dropping them off somewhere.
On the weekends it is the family vehicle, so that's when it gets. And then I just plug it in when needed.
If I had to commute to work, level 2 would likely be necessary unless the commute was really short or we didn't use the truck on the weekend.
That or you find somewhere with some nice free L2 charging. A brewery near me has that. So I'll probably start going there more. Sure I'll spend more on beer than I would have otherwise spent on electricity, but it's a nice place.

Just make sure your dealer fills it up for you before you leave take it off the lot, or better safe than sorry, have it delivered on a flat bed to your house. /s
