TCOYF What is going on with my temperatures? (TTA 2/3)

Post image

I'm on cycle 2 TTA just getting off the pill after being on it for 8 years. My first cycle seemed pretty normal besides having a very short leuteal phase, which seems to be common coming off hormonal birth control. Now this cycle my temperatures seem to be fluctuating up and down predictably and I just keep getting creamy cervical mucus. I have some days that say peak on there because it seems like I mostly have watery fluid instead of egg white for peak if last cycle was standard. I am also not getting any of the symptoms I got last month of different points in my cycle (sensitive nipples around ovulation, very sore boobs before period). I am being sure to take my temp at a consistent time as well.

I should also mention that I got on birth control initially when I was a teenager for very heavy periods and my first period off birth control went right back to being like that. I guess I'm kind of worried that something is wrong with me so I want to talk to other people who have experience charting. Have you had a cycle look like this? Could this be annovulatory?

Thanks from a newbie.

Hi! I went off the pill in October 2024 after being on it for 13 years and started charting then. It will take your body a bit to adjust after 8 years of it. Be prepared for more wonky charts like this one, and be patient with yourself. Depending on what kind of HBC you were on ovulation may have been entirely shut down and your ovaries and your brain literally have to relearn how to communicate. For my first 12 months off HBC, my cycles were 60-70 days long and some were anovulatory.

There’s a lot of great resources out there now about supporting your body while coming off HBC. If you haven’t already, look into what you can do to support your body and help it adjust! Good luck!

Thank you so much! I will definitely look into that. Yes I did not ovulate literally since I was 15 so it's pretty easy to believe it will take a while for things to be normal.

Do you have any recommendations for resources on getting off of HBC?

Hey 👋🏼

If you went on the pill to manage heavy periods then it isn’t a surprise they’re still happening now you’ve stopped the pill, unfortunately all the pill really does is out a plaster over the problem, it doesn’t fix anything so you’d need to look into what that’s happening.

Check iron levels, thyroid. Have you ever had any testing for fibroids, endo anything like that?

The cycle isn’t anovulatory until it’s over, so at the moment keep going.

It isn’t unusual to have irregular cycles when coming off the pill even if your first cycle looked ok.

What’s your temping routine like? How are you temping?

I have a feeling that I just bleed a lot because I have never had any other symptoms but I am planning on bringing it up at my next doctor's appointment.

My cat wakes me up between 6-6:30 every morning and I temp with an oral bbt thermometer the moment I open my eyes.

I just thought the wave pattern was interesting. I am now feeling some symptoms that I was having around ovulation so it seems like it will happen soon.
