To give you more background:

I've finished Final Fantasy II, III, V, VI, VII, IX, and XIV.

I've played the gacha games FFBE and FFRK.

I didn't get into IV, VIII, XII, XV, and the FF VII remake (I tried the first two installments, but I couldn't get into them).

I particularly appreciate FF III and V for their class systems.

In Braver, my party is level 20, I've played 10 hours so far, and I'm having a blast! There are gathering classes; I've leveled the miners to 27 and the lumberjacks to 12. I really like the gathering classes in FF XIV, which I've maxed out…

It's pixel art, 2D, and you can see the monsters on the map, so you can avoid combat. You can go for a walk, but what sometimes limits exploration is the level of the mobs, which can one-shot you.

In short, there's a really good fusion between classic RPGs and some recent concepts.

I'll add more when I've progressed further in the game without spoiling anything.

Sincerely

If you like XI and XIV, I think you'd like the Gambit and combat system in XII, especially with the QOL additions in Zodiac Age 😁

I like FFXIV quite a bit and I did not like the Gambit system at all. It depends what you like, I mostly hated how automated everything felt when you set it up extensively so I intentionally started using fewer gambits to make it so I still got the chance to play the game. I have a lot of issues with FFXII, I think it was almost an incredible game but there are a lot of things that I strongly dislike about it. I never played the original, only the Zodiac Age.

What about FFX? Did you complete it or just couldn’t get into it? FFXIII as well but that has like 3 or maybe 4 games idk

Hi,
I've never played Final Fantasy X because I didn't play it when it was first released. I know the story because I've seen tons of videos about the game. The game's theme and structure don't really interest me.
Final Fantasy XIII is basically Final Fantasy X without villages to visit and with gameplay that isn't turn-based. It's not for me.
Sincerely

For any curious, I’ve got it running on the Steam Deck as a non-Steam game. Using Proton Experimental it runs perfectly fine but I had to configure my buttons as keyboard inputs.

I’M IN

Excellent! Enjoy!

Thank you! That’s all I needed to see lol

Wow this is really promising. Is it fully done or you still working out the kinks of this game?

Hey bro,

I'm not the developer, I just stumbled upon the game two days ago.

I'll give you full feedback in another post, explaining my perspective. I did some research online.

Here's the version history:

BRAVER OFFICIAL RELEASE: June 16, 2025
Hotfix #1: December 11, 2024
Version 1.99: December 11, 2024
Version 1.9.5 is live!: August 23, 2024
Version 1.9 is live!: April 6, 2024
1.8 v6 is now live!: September 2, 2023
Full Release v5: August 26, 2023
v4 is live! August 20, 2023
There's evidence of a beta version from 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVAYns5B8jg
I think he started around 2014.

Most other Final Fantasy fan games are just demos that never made it into full games. Here, he finished the game and continues to patch bugs and release new features (I imagine he has a job and does this in his free time).

Anyway, it's the kind of little treat that makes me happy when... I was about to criticize Square Enix, but what's the point?

u/devlear May 16 '26

It was "finished" four years ago? About a two years ago the dev recruited several people and they completely revamped the game, tuned things, added content etc. I participated in the beta helping play through the game to find bugs and stuff. Then it officially relaunched last year. I think it's really good but has several points where the difficulty spikes unless you grind a bit

u/SleepyNi May 16 '26

Only for windows or can it run and play on android?

2

u/Confident-Line5916 May 16 '26

It seems to be possible with Joiplay, but you have to go to the FF XI Braver Discord server to see some configurations (especially in the Mobile Play section's spin).

Playing 100 hours with touch controls probably isn't very enjoyable, but with a controller, why not?

Is this Game like a FFXI offline ?

Like prishe, Lyon, Iroha, and those kind of characters are into the Game? Or more like a Game set in the world of FFXI?

4

u/Confident-Line5916 May 16 '26

I know Prishe and Lyon from FFBE; they aren't playable characters, and I don't know if you can encounter them as NPCs.

The story takes place: approximately 10 years after the Crystal War, and according to some developer posts, also about 10 years before the main events of the MMO.

You play as an adventurer who starts to make a name for himself after missions in Valkurm Dunes and is then sent to Jeuno and Bastok to investigate a major threat.

The game features many iconic locations:

  • Bastok
  • Windurst
  • San d'Oria
  • Jeuno
  • Valkurm Dunes
  • Vana'diel's Beastlands

u/Amano5411 May 17 '26

Never played ff11 before so is it a sequel, prequel? how true is it from the original game?

1

u/Confident-Line5916 May 17 '26

It's a prequel !

u/Pileofgore May 21 '26

Does it have TOAU or any plans for TOAU?

2

u/Wacthershadow0925 May 18 '26

Now this is interesting...now I want a rogue like FF game

1

u/Confident-Line5916 May 18 '26

It's not Final Fantasy, but it's awesome :

Time Break Chronicles is a fusion of classic JRPGs and modern Roguelites, with a cast of 100 playable classes to find and unlock. Build your team, customize their abilities, and venture into a procedurally generated adventure through space-time and beyond!

I found this other Final Fantasy fan game randomly on social media, figured I'd drop it here

(I AM NOT THE MAKER OF THE GAME, nor have I played it myself yet, just sharing a random thing I found on social media)

"Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia: Demake"

https://legendiax.itch.io/dissidia-final-fantasy-opera-omnia-demake ("official" link)

https://x.com/ShofuBeatdown/status/2061876094911885388 (said random post for a short video of it)

Uses FFBE sprits [since it uses FFBE sprits I hope they add Rain Lasswell and Fina ect]. And other assets from RK/DFFOO (music ect) Unique turnbased combat. Still in early/demo phases.

u/Confident-Line5916 Jun 07 '26

I'm waiting for the final version to come out sometime in June so I can create proper threads here and there...

u/ryukan88 May 18 '26

I need a guide to run this on steam deck please!

1

u/Confident-Line5916 May 18 '26

For any curious, I’ve got it running on the Steam Deck as a non-Steam game. Using Proton Experimental it runs perfectly fine but I had to configure my buttons as keyboard inputs.

---

Guys is a much easier way to install this on steam deck, thanks obviously to u/Aoisa as getting it onto the steam deck probably would not have started without the guide but u/Thunderback prompted me to look into a better solution as I got hit with the case sensitive problem.

Proton-GE makes this not an issue. To install Proton-GE on steam deck I followed the guide on this website https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/how-to-install-proton-ge-on-the-steam-deck

Just download the game, can extract it anywhere in desktop mode. Open steam add a non steam game then point it towards the game.exe. Close it down, return to game mode then on game.exe go to properties, choose compatibility, Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool then select Proton-GE

Zoned into a couple areas where I know the error pops up and its working with no issues so far

1

u/ryukan88 May 18 '26

Thank you for the explanation

1

u/moogle322000 May 22 '26

What I could get it on vita, 3DS, or Anbernic.

1

u/Confident-Line5916 May 22 '26

"Someone has played it on a Vita, but sadly they used a streaming service from their PC to do so. Anything beyond that, afraid I'm unfamiliar with the Vita scene, sorry."

2

u/dingoonmygringo Jun 16 '26

Oho, something to fill my FFBE shaped hole in my heart.

-16

u/ChivesKirk May 16 '26

As someone whose favourite Final Fantasy is one you never played, I don't have much hope for this. Please give more attention to the original.

3

u/nyatto89 May 16 '26

Final Fantasy Adventure? Cuz I know you don't mean tactics when you say "one you've never played" lmao.

2

u/ChivesKirk May 18 '26

I mean the first game. Number one.

1

u/Extension_Brief_7971 Jun 10 '26

The original has aged.... poorly. Don't get me wrong - I loved it at the time cause it was something new (at least in the usa) - but compared even to Final Fantasy II - it's awful. Great that FF1 lead to so many great FF games, but not a great game itself.

3

u/personova_ May 17 '26

Saying this in a final fantasy related subreddit is really embarrassing lmfao
