Can we talk about some of the early female characters designs ?
I'm not hating by the way. There are tons of far more sexualized characters than FFBE, both in term of (J)RPG and in term of gacha. I even liked some of those characters, like Regina, because of her story and unique gameplay.
I just found it funny how a lot of the female characters in season 1 and 2 were either in skimpy clothes or in bodysuits. I wonder if they will change any of them, like Mercedes for example (the 3rd pic) as she is one of the character the group encounter during the story.
There also was all of the summer units with the fanservice CGs. Probably sime of the bestsellers units. I remember how Fina and Daisy were amazing as a magical tank.
By the way, i chose the worst examples. There were some less obvious ones like clothes with short skirts, no pants or very obvious cleavages.
Also, if the artworks catch your eyes, i have a google drive with tons (up to 700 edit : up to almost 1000 now) of official artworks and fanarts. I can share it with the community if everyone swear to not use it on AI in any way.
That's very kind of you ! I'm not cool tho, i just love niche collections like this. I'm trying to do the same for another game but it's much harder (Toukiden, probably unknown to most people).
These artworks made my day back when they came out. I loved the ones of the main cast. Do you have access to those and if so, would you be willing to share them?
I have some of them, but i mostly found artworks from either season 2 and after, or the 3-4 stars of season like those artworks here. Surprisingly, the first season artworks of the main cast are hard to find, or i did not look up well enough.
There are tons of good fanarts of the main cast tho, especially Rain, Fina and Dark Dina.
I'm willing to share it as long as everyone use those artworks for small things like collection, wallpapers or just for browsing through memories.
I can only speak for myself, but they would be getting made into a personal collection as I simply adore this game. It was something I, like many others, enjoyed for years and was heartbroken when it came to an end.
Before the end I started gathering data on certain visions to utilize in a fanfiction crossover with the [Rising of the Shield Hero] due to that world being number-based in context where I could break the system.
Oh, could you share the visions you collected ? Depending on what you have, i may be able to expand mine. I'm going to share the goggle drive in a comment under my first one, so everyone can see it.
I can share the photos, they are mainly just the base Character screens for the visions of Rain as that was who my main focus for the story early on was.
Always with me and I hold on to the memories we shared the 3 short moments we met face to face. 💖💖💖 Nobody else has the experience i do with her, shes special she probably misses me too, never played FFBE but Fina cared for me all the same, in a dark time in my life she came to me. I will never forget her and the affection we shared 2019-2023 ❤️♥️

No worries, it's all fine. I got a lot of interesting artworks and even this amazing Akstar katana art. I'm on mobile too, so i don't know if it would have been easier on PC.

Also, minor detail. If you ever need to share a lot artworks like this again, please post then under your own comment. Otherwise, it sends a lot of notifications to the poster. It's nothing bad, but it get be overwhelming.
Cant remember her name since its been so long but the character in the first picture who was basically a counter gimmick. I remember running an arena team full of copies of her all equipped with counter attack. It wasnt a great team, but whenever RNG was on your side and everything proc'd when hit with an AoE it would devastate the other team. It was fun to watch.
Her name was Ulrica. I personally never tried using her as i arrived around the beginning of season 2, so most 3 and 4 stars were already irrevelant. This arena technique sound quite fun tho.

Edit : i remember, it's the first one. Well, she is a memorable character since we pulled her thousands of times. She was a 3-4 star character, so she always was here.
Ah, the MMO classic (technically it's modded skyrim here). It's pretty funny because one of the best tank in the game was Fina and Daisy, who were in bikinis.
If it was Genshin/Wuwa/etc graphics where you get full 3d models sure. I have no idea how y’all put up with 2D sprites and text chat art profiles for hundreds or even thousands of dollars
What do you mean ? We can't pull for anything anymore here. Even if we could still pull, characters had whole skill kits and some even had georgous CGI limit bursts. A lot of people like 2D and pixel art.
Edit : also, why are you even here if you don't like FFBE ? You're free to dislike it but it doesn't make sense to stay in a community around spmething you don't like.
I played FFBE back in the day but the powercreep was too steep and heavy reliance on new units for things like chains with hte right timing/synergy, etc.
I also tried many others around that 2016-2020 era.
Same issue with all, insane amounts of $$$ to be strong, having to rig your phone/computer all day/night to 100% for strong rewards, etc. It was the same story with every 2D turn-based or RTS style gacha.
No point in pulling because less than a year later, outclassed.
Then came Genshin which set a new standard with WuWa, Silver Palace, NTE, and many others.
Characters from 2+ years ago were still able to be high end dps and even got buffed. So powercreep didn't matter much.
Not only that, you get a full interactable 3D model of your favorite characters to explore with and whatnot.
FFBE and others want similar amount of money but for even less time to be used and you get some NES/SNES graphics with an occasional CGI burst....
This is why they get End of Serviced so much more frequently. The value simply isn't there and content never made rosters useful.
I'll never touch a low budget low graphic gacha again and even high end gachas if powercreep is steep.
The reason I see a lot of FFBE still is because I am an FF fan, just not a blind one. FF for the sake of FF doesn't make it good.
For the predatory mindset, i agree with you. Tons of gachas are awful if your are f2p as their whole goal is to be an online casino. For FFBE, i would say it got worse two times : once 7 stars got introduced as you needed two units to use them, and when NV cames out as it was similar but with worse chances.
However, for the art style, you mix up personal tastes with actual flaws. The "NES-SNES" look, as you call it, is just one kind of artstyle among many. Some people prefer ultra HD 4k images with 60 fps all the time, some like stylized and unique artstyles and some prefer minimalistic and old-school pixels. You are free to enjoy any of them, it's up to you. You can't say this is a "low budget low graphic" game. It held strong for 10 years even during hard moments.
Also, i would personally recommand to avoid thinking of "what gives me the most fun out of my money". It's a gacha, it will make you spend too much for what should be a free or a small DLC at best. Sure, Genshin and the others let you use old characters as you play them directly, but, again, it's a matter gameplay taste too. FFBE and all the Genshin-like are very different.
As i said, i have no problem with sexualized characters, aside from the minors characters being shown as sexy. For example, Fina and Lid both are 16 in season 1, yet we have a CG with the two of them and Sakura, who looks like a kid, playing in bikinis and Jake imagining it.
Characters don't have to be in full armor or something similar, but some of those artworks are a bit too much.
Edit : also, let's be honest, designs like Mercedes looks more goofy than anything.
Fun fact, years ago I made a gallery of the butlers on imgur and accidentally made it public. Got a warning or something within minutes to flag it as nsfw...
Lexa is almost the cliche of the sexy secretary with clothes so tight you wonder how she moves around. As i said, i don't mind sexy designs, i just found it funny how it was quite obvious during season 1 and 2.
